Hakone Sightseeing around Lake Ashi in Japan!
To watch more videos of our travel, please subscribe to our channel:
The Hakone Sightseeing Cruise offers pirate style sightseeing boats that sail around Lake Ashinoko, a popular spot in Hakone. There are three boats: Royal II, Victory, and Vasa, and passengers can board the cruise at any of the three ports along the edge of the lake. Those ports are Hakonemachi-ko, Motohakone-ko, or Togendai-ko. We recommend the cruise that leaves from Motohakone-ko, as you can view Mt. Fuji, a large torii gate, and Lake Ashinoko all at once. Passengers can enjoy majestic views on sunny days, when the contrast between the blue sky and the sparkling surface of the lake is very beautiful.

Famous for hot springs, natural beauty and the view across Lake Ashinoko of nearby Mount Fuji, Hakone is one of the most popular destinations among Japanese and international tourists looking for a break from Tokyo.
The Hakone Free Pass by Odakyu Railways is a discount pass for exploring Hakone. It provides unlimited use of Odakyu-affiliated buses, trains, boats, cablecars and ropeways in the Hakone area and discounted admission to selected tourist attractions on two or three consecutive days. Optionally, the pass also includes a discounted round trip from Tokyo's Shinjuku Station.
popular and attractive way of visiting Hakone is by circling the region with five different means of transport (train, cablecar, ropeway, boat and bus), using the Hakone Free Pass.
The round course outlined below starts and ends in Hakone-Yumoto and circles the Hakone region in the counter-clockwise direction. Of course, it is also possible to follow the course in the opposite direction or to start and end somewhere different.
If you leave early in the morning, it is possible to completed the Hakone round course in a one day trip from Tokyo. However, we recommend allocating two days and one night to your visit, preferably with a stay at a ryokan with hot spring baths.

2018 Hakone Travel Video (TMV)
A tranquil retreat, Hakone provides a pretty relaxing weekend getaway that is less than 2 hours away from the Tokyo metropolis. Or take the Odakyu Limited Express Romance Car and go from Shinjuku to Hakone-Yumoto in 75 minutes. Definitely get the Hakone Freepass for easier travel around area. We stayed at the Mountain View Hakone for their outdoor Onsen, convenient location off a Hakone Bus Stop, and delicious meals. We started our Hakone trip by doing the Hakone loop counter clockwise. Starting at Gora, we took the Hakone Cable Car towards Sounzan for the Ropeway. When you get to the top you can exit the station for a spectacular view of the valley below. Go back into the station to take the Ropeway to Owakudani for black boiled eggs cooked in the sulfur hot springs. Remember to add a little salt to the egg that’s included in the bag of eggs. Here you'll find a museum and lots of souvenir shops. Also check out the gorgeous view of Mount Fuji (富士山), assuming it isn't blocked by clouds. From here, catch the Ropeway to Lake Ashinoko (芦ノ湖) to take the pirate ships to the other side of the lake. Reminded me of One Piece when I rode these ships. Then take a stroll around the Hakone Machi-ko area. Hit the Hakone Tokaido Checkpoint for some interesting history. Then walk over to Onshihakone Park (恩賜箱根公園) for an amazing view of Lake Ashinoko especially from the 弁天の鼻展望台 observation deck. Later, make your way along the tree-lined paths, cross the Ashigawa Bridge (芦川橋) and head up the Ancient Cedar Avenue (箱根旧街道杉並木) toward the Motohakone (元箱根) city area. Along the way on the left, you will get a pretty view of Mount Fuji and Hakone Jinjya Heiwa-no-Torii (箱根神社 平和の鳥居). We also took a detour and saw the Sengokuhara Susuki Grass Fields (仙石原すすき草原). There is definitely more to see than what we did. So many museums and attractions to visit.
Odakyu Freepass
Your JR Rail Pass won’t work for the Hakone area once you’ve gotten to Odawara station. Instead, pick up an Odakyu Freepass to get around. Purchased either in Shinjuku or Odawara, they have different types of passes to suit your needs. Such as passes with and without round trip use of the Romance Car; and 1 to 3 day passes for how long you will stay. Also, the pass lets you ride unlimited on all the major bus lines, ships, ropeways, and trains in Hakone. Definitely worth the cost for the amount of travel you do in Hakone
Mountain View Hakone
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We got our own bathroom, while the shower and onsen are shared. You can also have Japanese style food added during your stay. We did so because many stores and restaurants close by 5 pm (17:00) or so and we felt we could relax more since we didn’t have to worry about food. It’s convenient location also made the hotel an excellent choice for us.

Hakone (箱根町 Hakone-machi?) is a town in Ashigarashimo District in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. As of June 2012, the town had an estimated population of 13,492 and a population density of 145 persons per km². The total area was 92.82 km². Hakone has been designated as a Geopark by UNESCO.
Tōgendai Station (桃源台駅 Tōgendai-eki?) is a terminal on the Hakone Ropeway in the town of Hakone, Kanagawa, Japan. It is 4.0 kilometers (2.5 mi) from the Hakone Ropeway's opposing terminus at Sōunzan Station. It is located at an altitude of 741 meters (2,431 ft) in the Togendai area of Hakone.
Ōwakudani (大涌谷 lit. Great Boiling Valley?) is a volcanic valley with active sulphur vents and hot springs in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It is a popular tourist site for its scenic views, volcanic activity, and especially, Kuro-tamago (黒卵 lit. black egg?) — a local specialty of eggs hard-boiled in the hot springs. The boiled eggs turn black and smell slightly sulphuric; consuming the eggs is said to increase longevity. Eating one is said to add seven years to your life. You may eat up to two and a half for up to seventeen and a half years, but eating a whole third is said to be highly unadvised.[citation needed]
The Hakone Tozan Railway (箱根登山鉄道 Hakone Tozan Tetsudō?) is a private railway company in Japan, part of the Odakyu Group. It is best known for its operation of the Hakone Tozan Line, the first mountain railway in Japan, but like most Japanese railway companies, also operates bus service, namely Hakone Tozan Bus. It also operates the connecting Hakone Tozan Cable Car.
The Hakone Tozan Line consists of two sections: a lower section from Odawara to Hakone-Yumoto, and an upper section from Hakone-Yumoto to Gōra. At Gōra, a cable car is available to transfer visitors to and from Lake Ashi.

Hakone Day Trip 5 of 5 - Pirate Ship from Togendai to Hakone Machi, 3/30/2016
A pirate ship! This and the Ropeway are the highlights of the Hakone Circuit, which you can ride using the Hakone Free Pass. Unfortunately we did not get to see Mt. Fuji across the lake as the sky was too cloudy. Go to the top decks to get the best views. After all, that's what you're there for!
The boat goes from Hakone Machi through to Moto Hakone, but we decided to walk that length instead to see the Cedar Avenue. If you're not tired yet by this point I recommend it also! The Cedar Avenue will be a bit past Hakone Machi along Tokaido Highway on the east side (the right side of the road if you're walking north from Hakone Machi to Moto Hakone), just a tiny bit past the entrance to Onshihakone Park, which will be on your left.
From Moto Hakone you take the bus back to Hakoneyumoto and then the rail back to Odawara. I didn't take GoPro video of that unfortunately, but it wasn't particularly scenic anyway.
BEWARE that bus back from Moto Hakone can get VERY full in the afternoon. If you're trying to catch a specific train from Odawara I suggest you get to the bus depot at least one arrival ahead of time. Odds are good you won't get to the front of the line until the bus after.
We actually missed our Shinkansen to Kyoto by about 5 minutes, until a very nice JR Rail agent heard our panic and very kindly helped us, giving us an alternate route with a train change that still got us to Kyoto within an hour of our original arrival time. Thank goodness for the JR pass!

World heritage: Mt. Fuji on a spring morning from the shores of the Ashinoko in Hakone「芦ノ湖、箱根」
A bright spring morning with a clear view of Mt. Fuji from the Motohakone port on Lake Ashi in Hakone. This scenic lake lies about two hours west of Tokyo, in the Hakone area in Kanagawa prefecture. On a perfectly clear day and particularly in the morning, Mt. Fuji is visible from the Motohakone and Hakonemachi ports of the lake.
In June 2013, Mt. Fuji was granted the status of a World Heritage site. See:
CAN YOU SEE HAKONE IN LESS THAN 6 HOURS?
Hakone is a gateway destination for those seeking a relaxing getaway from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo whilst also serving great views of Mt Fuji and the Izu Peninsula for our overseas visitors.
I was actually looking forward to seeing the Autumn Leaves here after seeing many photos of it when the day finally arrived, it rained.
Out of all the days that, mother nature decided to rain on this two day trip I had planned.
I tried to salvage as much footage as I can and with the help of my new found friends that I met from Emblem Flow Hakone, we ventured off into this place in a race against time to see what we could cover in the 6 hours that we have before we departed into other areas of Japan.
This is our small recap.
