Lake Blanche Trail | 4K
#lakeblanchehike #saltlakecityhikes #besthikesinutah #lakeblanchetrail
The Hike to Lake Blanche in Utah's Wasatch Mountains, located within the Twin Peaks Wilderness is one of Utah's premiere trials. Popular since the 19th century, Lake Blanche is as much a part of Utah's history as it is a symbol of stunning natural beauty.
Two dams (north and west) were built in 1908 in an attempt to satisfy the thirsty population of Salt Lake County. The western dam ruptured in the 1980s and though fallen, it remains a relic of the area's pioneer history and a reminder of the critical role of water in the arid state of Utah.
It's unfortunate, but the trail to Lake Blanche is also heavily vandalized in areas. If you attempt this trail, please do not mark or tag any structures (natural or unnatural). Besides being illegal it damages the health and scenic splendor of the are. Trees, in particular, are made susceptible to parasites and disease once tagged.
Given time much of the graffiti can be removed or healed by natural processes. Do your part. Leave No Trace.

Lake Blanche Hike Utah (Watch in 1080p)
A quick preview of the gorgeous hike to Lake Blanche up Big Cottonwood Canyon! If you enjoy please subscribe!
Lake Blanche Trail is a 6.9 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Salt Lake City, UT that features a waterfall and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from June until October.
This is a VERY strenuous hike! Plan to stop several times to catch your breath. If you want exercise, this is the hike for you! The hike is a lot of work, but it is well worth it.
The views down into the canyon below are breathtaking. Just prior to arriving at the lake, parts of Salt Lake City are also visible from the trail. There is plenty of wildlife and an abundant variety of trees, flowers, and everything else Utah's great outdoors has to offer!
This is a very difficult hike, but is very satisfying to complete. Everyone should do it at least once!

Lake Blanche Hike, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake City Utah
The Lake Blanche trail head can be found at the goose neck about half way up Big Cottonwood Canyon where the Brighton and Solitude Ski Resorts are near Salt Lake City, Utah. Despite the sign saying the lake is only 2.8 miles away, it's actually about 3.5 miles each way, for a total of a 7 mile hike. The elevation gain is fairly significant, and only those who are in moderate to good shape should attempt the hike. Make sure to bring plenty of water, bug repellent, sun screen and some good shoes! The hike is GORGEOUS. Once you reach the lake, if you take a right, and walk counter clockwise around the lake, you can descend to two other lakes that are fairly close by, or you can walk across the old retaining wall and loop around the whole lake. Make sure to bring a camera! Backpackers can also find several campsites with unhindered views of the lake and surrounding mountains. There is no potable water, or campfires allowed. One last word of caution. I found several groups turning around to descend because they were too tired to continue the climb just 5-10 minutes before the lake. It is worth it to finish the hike! Take breaks and as long as you need, and you will be glad you did.
Lake Blanche, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah in 4K
This is drone footage of my hike up to Lake Blanche on September 26th. The week before, the last week of Summer, we got a few storms that brought colder than average temperatures and snow to the Wasatch mountains. The leaves on most of the trees haven't even started turning yellow yet.
The trail to Lake Blanche is called Mill B and the trailhead is about half-way up Big Cottonwood Canyon, just before the S-curve you see in the video. The hike is somewhere between 3-3.5 miles one way. It's a pretty steep hike and took me just under two hours to get to the lake.

We went on an awesome hike to Lake Blanche, followed by summiting Sundial Peak. We also checked out a natural hot spring, which reaches depths of 55 feet and stay over 90 degrees year round. Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Mountains were gorgeous and I cannot wait to come back for another visit.

Bear Canyon Bridge Trail Guide, Sandy, Utah
3 bridges, a boulder tunnel, a waterfall, mountain and urban views, this hiking trail has something for everyone!
This trail has a few different entry points from the Bonneville Shoreline Trail (BST). Actually, the BST is the only trail you really need to follow if you want to go on the suspension bridge shown in the title screen. However, if you want to see the waterfall and a smaller bridge, then an extra climb is needed.
The trailhead as shown on alltrails starts in Hidden Valley Park in Sandy (South of Salt Lake City), but when you get there, if you don't know the place, it can be a little tricky to find, mostly as you are not parking at a trailhead, but at the park itself. If you go to the far end of the parking lot toward the mountain (GPS marker is listed in the video), you will see a trail going up the hill, follow this paved path about .1 mile to the actual trailhead. This is the way started the trail. However, if you want to shorten it, go further down the paved path maybe .3-.4 mile til you can see a wide gravel path going up a hill, this will shorten your trail by about .5 mile probably. Walk up this hill, take a right at a set of steps and go down over a bridge, follow the BST Trail to a fenced area. If you go into this fenced area this is actually the Bear Canyon Loop which requires a climb up a few hundred feet incline then down over a bridge, where a small waterfall can be seen. However, if you are there with a dog, or just want to see the suspension bridge, then walk past the wooden gate to the Bear Canyon Loop, go straight and get to the bridge in a jiffy! There are map screen shots in the video trail guide that will help you with this hike.
There are other ways to get to this bridge- other trail entries from nearby neighborhoods, or maybe even if you are walking from the opposite direction on the BST.
Keep in mind there is a good chance to see mountain bikers as well as hikers on this trail.
This trail is also popular with families with small children as well as tourists and trail runners.
