Welcome to Lake Crabtree Park, located in Morrisville, NC. Lake Crabtree offers approximately 8 miles of beginner multi-use trails.
The trails are multi-directional loops, so you can easily extend your ride to 10-15 miles. In addition to the trails, there’s a pump track, jump section and skills area.
Located in the heart of the Triangle, right next to Highway 40 and close to the airport, Lake Crabtree is very accessible, but does get a lot of visitors. Be mindful of riders, hikers and joggers in both directions.
With the close proximity to the highway, there are a number of spots on the trail where you encounter car noise. So if you’re interested in escaping into the woods, there are other trails in the area that are better options like Beaver Dam and Brumley Nature Preserve.
In this video, we’ll start on the Outer/Lake Loop Trail and make our way to Loop 6. You’ll get some nice views of the lake on this part of the trail.
Loop 6 is located centrally in the Lake side of the trail system and marked Advanced. I think it’s a beginner to intermediate level trail though. A friend that just started mountain biking, who has just a few single-track rides, recently rode it without difficulty.
Leaving Loop 6, we’ll continue on the Outer loop and make our way to the Pump track. The Pump track is central to the trail system and an good place to stop, regroup and goof off a bit.

New to single-track? Checkout Lake Crabtree and Brumley Forest - Raleigh, NC
Are you new to mountain biking on single-track trails and live in central North Carolina? In this video I’m sharing highlights of a couple early season rides, showcasing two nice beginner trails, Lake Crabtree Park in Morrisville, NC and Brumley Forest Nature Preserve in Chapel Hill, NC.
Both trail systems have approximately 8-9 miles of multi-use, multi-directional trails, so you can easily extend your ride to 12-18 miles. Crabtree is a local classic and Brumley just opened in 2017.
Located in the heart of the Triangle, right next to Highway 40 and close to the airport, Lake Crabtree is very accessible, but does get a lot of visitors. Be mindful of riders, hikers and joggers in both directions. Brumley is new and quickly growing in popularity, so it can also be busy. Brumley Forest Nature Preserve is farther away from any major roads and the trails are spreadout more than Crabtree, so if you’re interested in escaping into the woods it's a better option.

Lake Crabtree Mountain Bike Trails Cary North Carolina Part 1
Loop 1 at Lake Crabtree in Cary NC. They are multiple loops. i only had time to do 3.5 miles of the total 8 there are. They have a pump track and jump park there as well. Its rainy this week will be going back to film the rest.

Morrisville is a town in Wake County, North Carolina, United States. A small portion of the town extends into Durham County. The population was 18,576 at the 2010 census. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the town's population to be 21,932 as of July 1, 2013. Morrisville is part of the Research Triangle metropolitan region. The regional name originated after the 1959 creation of the Research Triangle Park, located midway between the cities of Raleigh and Durham. The Research Triangle region encompasses the U.S. Census Bureau's Combined Statistical Area of Raleigh-Durham-Cary. Also, this part of cary/morrisville looks nothing like this anymore and I got rid of the bike.... oh yeah and no more comments!

Mountain Biking Umstead State Park Raleigh NC - Graylyn Trail to Lake Crabtree - June 16 2013
Mountain Biking Umstead State Park Late Afternoon June 16, 2013. This is from the Beginning of the Graylyn Trail to Reedy Creek and then into Lake Crabtree. About a 35 minute ride with some good down hills and up hills. I did some 2x speeds with Windows Movie Maker in some areas to shorten this but wanted to include the entire ride. They keep this park very well maintained! Picked up a biking buddy at 8:35, he stopped to check on someone who had a minor bike incident. The Bike 2005 Raleigh M80, with Disc Brakes, Shimano Gears/Rapid Fire Shifters & 27 Speeds.
