City Walks: Billings, Montana Virtual 360 Treadmill Walking Tour
We were in spending time in Billings on our way home and decided to spend a couple days exploring. There's so much more to see and do than we expected. Great breweries and restaurants, museums and indoor activities as well as trails and shopping. Tons of fun. I was able to take a morning and do a walk downtown. I think this will be the last of my 360 walking videos. They are just too much work for the results. Hope thats ok and I apologize to those who are using the goggles and vr headsets. Maybe as the technology improves I'll be able to get back to them. Thanks!
Billings, Montana Info - Pulled from Wikipedi -
Billings is located in the south-central portion of the state and is the seat of Yellowstone County, which had a 2017 population of 158,980. The 2017 Census estimates put the Billings population at 109,642, making it the only city in Montana with over 100,000 people. The city is experiencing rapid growth and a strong economy; it has had and is continuing to have the largest growth of any city in Montana. Parts of the metro area are seeing hyper growth. From 2000 to 2010 Lockwood, an eastern suburb of the city, saw growth of 57.8%, the largest growth rate of any community in Montana. Billings has avoided the economic downturn that affected most of the nation 2008–2012 as well as avoiding the housing bust. With the Bakken oil development in eastern Montana and western North Dakota, the largest oil discovery in U.S. history, as well as the Heath shale oil discovery just north of Billings, the city's growth rate stayed high during the shale oil boom. Although the city is still growing, the rate of increase has diminished markedly with oil price declines in recent years.
Billings was nicknamed the Magic City because of its rapid growth from its founding as a railroad town in March 1882. The city is named for Frederick H. Billings, a former president of the Northern Pacific Railroad. With one of the largest trade areas in the United States, Billings is the trade and distribution center for much of Montana east of the Continental Divide, Northern Wyoming, and western portions of North Dakota and South Dakota. Billings is also the retail destination for much of the same area. With more hotel accommodations than any area within a five-state region, the city hosts a variety of conventions, concerts, sporting events, and other rallies.
Area attractions include Pompey's Pillar, Pictograph Cave, Chief Plenty Coups State Park, Zoo Montana, and Yellowstone Art Museum. Within 100 miles are Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Red Lodge Mountain Resort, and the Beartooth Highway, which links Red Lodge to Yellowstone National Park.
Billings is the largest city in the U.S. state of Montana, and the principal city of the Billings Metropolitan Area with a population of 170,498. It has a trade area of over half a million people.

Cutting of the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree 2016 - McCall, Idaho
With Great Enthusiasm, the Payette National Forest is Pleased to Announce the Location of the 2016 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree
The 80 foot Engelmann spruce that will travel to Washington D.C. and be placed on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol is located at the Little Ski Hill, just west of McCall, Idaho.
While many people may not know it, the Little Ski Hill is partly located on the Payette National Forest. Since 1937, the Little Ski Hill has been operating under a Special Use Permit from the Forest. For the past 79 years and into the foreseeable future, the Payette National Forest and the Payette Lakes Ski Club have had a great relationship that benefits the public by providing a winter recreation opportunity. Downhill and cross-country skiing have long been a mainstay of the McCall economy and helped to produce winter Olympic athletes who all spent numerous hours at the Little Ski Hill in their youth.
“The Payette Lakes Ski Club and the Little Ski Hill are very excited and honored that the 2016 U.S. Capitol Christmas tree will come from our ski area,” said Mike Lamm, President of the Payette Lakes Ski Club. “This is just one more special event that will be a part of the Little Ski Hill’s great history.”
The Payette National Forest and the Little Ski Hill will host a “tree cutting” event on Wednesday, November 2nd from 11am to noon that will be open to public to attend. KTVB Channel 7, who is a sponsor of the project, will broadcast the event live from the Little Ski Hill as well. Members of the public that would like to attend the event are encouraged to arrive early in order to help avoid traffic congestion along highway 55.
“The Little Ski Hill is an important part of the McCall community, and now the 2016 U.S. Capitol Christmas tree will be part of the Little Ski Hill’s legacy,” said Keith Lannom, Payette National Forest Supervisor. “Wednesday will be a very exciting day for the Little Ski Hill, McCall, and the Payette National Forest as our “Idaho Mountain Gem” will start its journey to Washington D.C.”
This tree and 3 others were identified as final candidates for the Christmas tree in July of this year. The requirements for the Christmas tree are that it must be 65 to 85 feet tall, have full branches around the entire tree, be of a rich green color and be cylindrical in shape – generally, it must look like a fantastic Christmas tree. Engelmann spruce is a native tree species the Payette National Forest.
“After a year of planning and preparation, we are excited to start the delivery of the 2016 U.S. Capitol Christmas tree to Washington D.C.,” added Lannom. Two Payette employees, Jared Schuster and Chris Niccoli will cut the tree using a crosscut saw to honor the traditional skills used in Wilderness areas.
The Payette National Forest, along with the City of McCall and the McCall Area Chamber of Commerce will kick-off the in-state and cross-county tour of the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree on November 5 with the McCall Christmas tree lighting and celebration event in downtown McCall from 5 to 7pm. Please join us to celebrate “An Idaho Mountain Gem” that is a gift from all of the state of Idaho

Catfishing on the Bighorn.
There are few places in life I call home. One of them is the farm on the Bighorn River in Montana. This little stretch of river has one of the most densely populated areas of wildlife in the Northwest United States with critters from Whitetail and Mule Deer, Elk, Black Bears and Cougars, Wolves and Coyotes. Raccoons and fox. Squirrels, mink, weasels, otters. Pheasants, turkeys, ducks, geese, swans, pelicans, cranes, and herons. This place has it all. There's plenty of food to survive on. When we're hungry, just slip down to the slough with a couple shrimp baits and you'll catch more fish than you can eat for a week. Keep enough for dinner and throw the rest back for another time. Nothing like sharing it with my best buddy.

SUMMARY
=======
Montana ( (listen)) is a state in the Northwestern United States. Montana has several nicknames, although none are official, including Big Sky Country and The Treasure State, and slogans that include Land of the Shining Mountains and more recently The Last Best Place.Montana is the 4th largest in area, the 8th least populous, and the 3rd least densely populated of the 50 U.S. states. The western half of Montana contains numerous mountain ranges. Smaller island ranges are found throughout the state. In total, 77 named ranges are part of the Rocky Mountains. The eastern half of Montana is characterized by western prairie terrain and badlands. Montana is bordered by Idaho to the west, Wyoming to the south, North Dakota and South Dakota to the east, and the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan to the north.
The economy is primarily based on agriculture, including ranching and cereal grain farming. Other significant economic resources include oil, gas, coal, hard rock mining, and lumber. The health care, service, and government sectors also are significant to the state's economy.
The state's fastest-growing sector is tourism. Nearly 13 million tourists annually visit Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, the Beartooth Highway, Flathead Lake, Big Sky Resort, and other attractions.
POMPEYS PILLAR NATIONAL MONUMENT
Pompeys Pillar is one of the most famous sandstone buttes in America. It bears the only remaining physical evidence of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, which appears on the trail today as it did 204 years ago. On the face of the 150-foot butte, Captain William Clark carved his name on July 25, 1806, during his return to the United States through the beautiful Yellowstone Valley in Montana.
Clark named the Pillar Pomp's Tower. Pomp was Clark's nickname for young Baptiste Charbonneau, infant son of Sacagawea, the Shoshoni woman who accompanied the expedition and contributed greatly to its success. The name was changed to Pompeys Pillar when an account of the Expedition was published by Nicolas Biddle in 1814.
This rock I ascended and from it's top had a most extensive view in every direction on the Northerly Side of the river high romantic Clifts approach & jut over the water for some distance both above and below...I marked my name and the day of the month and year.

2018 World Livestock Auctioneer Championship
The 2018 WLAC was hosted by Bloomington Livestock Exchange in Bloomington, Wis.
About the World Livestock Auctioneer Championship:
In June 1963, the Livestock Marketing Association held the first annual World Livestock Auctioneer Championship (WLAC) at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Denver, Colorado. The purpose: to spotlight North America’s top livestock auctioneers and to salute their traditionally important role in the competitive livestock marketing process. That year, 23 auctioneers from the United States and Canada sold the same 20 head of cattle over and over again.
The contest was conducted at hotels until 1967, when it traveled to its first LMA member market. Since then the WLAC has been in conjunction with the LMA Annual Convention at member markets around the U.S. and Canada. Locations include California, Missouri, Montana, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas, South Dakota and Alberta, Canada.
Though the rules have changed, the enthusiasm for the competition hasn’t. On average each year, nearly 100 auctioneers enter the qualifying events and only 31 (10 from each qualifying event and one from the auctioneering competition at Calgary Stampede) are selected to compete in the WLAC. The championship consists of three stages: the regional qualifying events at different markets around the country, followed by the semi-finals and the finals that are held each June in conjunction with the LMA Annual Convention. Contestants competing for the World Champion title must be 18 years old, employed as a livestock auctioneer and sponsored by a local, fixed-facility auction market that conducts at least one sale per week.
LMA is proud to sponsor an event that brings together North America’s top livestock auctioneers in a competition that showcases professionalism and promotes the auction method of selling livestock.
