Lake Hickory was finally good to me. I couldn't get any bites before the sun came up but as soon as it was daylight it was on. First bite was a giant and jumped off. Then caught a 3.84 and a 4.98 in the fog. Foggy mornings are great for topwaters. When the shad and herring got off the bank it slowed down but I caught a few on the popper

Bearwallow Mountain and Blue Ridge Pastures, - Hickory Nut Gorge, NC
From Bearwallow Gap you can do 2 hikes in one. First I climbed the very nice 1-mile switchbacking trail to the enormous grassy bald of Bearwallow Mountain. Although the true summit is adorned with an old fire tower and many communications structures, the panoramic view west is tough to beat. Returning to the road I hiked the relatively new Trombatore Trail to Blue Ridge Pastures, a secluded bald with excellent views north and east. From here you get great vistas of Little Pisgah Mountain, Bearwallow Mountain, and Hickory Nut Gorge. From both hikes there are excellent views north of the Great Craggy Mountains and the Black Mountains. Strongly consider combining the two for a pleasant 7 mile hike.

Matt is back at the Lake Hickory trails in Hickory, NC to take a quick lap around the flow/beginner loop. This short loop is utilized by everyone from beginners to the more experienced riders in the area so don't let the trail rating keep you off this trail!

The Top boaters & co-anglers from North Carolina & South Carolina qualified to fish on lake Hickory.... Only 1st place finisher (out of the top 47 who qualified) from ea state advanced to the National Championship!! It was cold, it was tough conditions but as always it was FUN!!! .....
