Also known as Top of the World, St. Moritz is considered the oldest and one of the most famous winter resorts in the world.
Due to its favorable location residents enjoy over 300 days of sunshine a year.
In summer on can enjoy horse riding golf, walking, climbing and biking.
St. Moritz is extremely popular in the summer months as an altitude training base for distance athletes, particularly cyclists, runners, and race walkers.
St. Moritz basically consists of two villages, St. Moritz-Bad and St. Moritz-Dorf, respectively on the lake and on the hillside.
It has been the host city for the 1928 and 1948 Winter Olympics. It also hosted the 1934, 1974 and 2003 Alpine Skiing World Championships. It is one of three cities that have hosted the Winter Olympic Games twice.
St. Moritz was mentioned in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger and in the 1981 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only.

One could say that the Kulm Hotel was the birthplace of Swiss Alpine Hospitality. Known as a popular summer resort in the 18 century, Johannes Badrutt made a bet with some of his English guests that they would love St. Moritz's sunny winter weather. To prove it he offered no cost accommodations if they weren’t delighted. They came the next winter, were astonished by wonderful weather and Badrutt won the bet.
The first electric lights in Switzerland lit up at the Kulm in 1878.
At the Sunny Bar at the Kulm, the oldest sports bar in the Alps…local sports history is on all the walls. St. Moritz was the birthplace of competitive winter sports starting with Switzerland’s first curling field followed by the Cresta Run in 1884. In fact the first winter olympics was held in the Engadin in 1928.
And if you go skiing in St. Moritz, you can’t lose.
Corviglia mountain has first class ski runs usually uncrowded and bathed in sunshine. There are neighboring ski mountains and together they provide 350 kms of pistes.
There are also 15 mountain restaurants. The El Paradisio Hutte has gotten international accolades for its creamy dessert.
“La Marmite” at 2,486 meters above sea level, serves fine cuisine that reaches even greater heights. Reto Mathis’s exclusive menus focuses on exceptional fresh ingredients such as his truffle pizza which features different types of fresh truffles, depending on the time of the year.
Reto also presided as president of St. Moritz Gourmet Festival which in 2016 brought nine master Japanese chefs to the village. The grand opening featured each chef and a signature dish and through the week various hotel hosted a gourmet safari where diners could experience special menus created by these Asian artists.
St. Moritz is more than just a playground for the international jet set. It is a host of year round sports from ski races to sailing The village offers the finest in hotels from the Kulm to the Kronenhof — creative restaurants, and indulgent, unique shopping.

St. Moritz is a beautiful location in Switzerland featuring a lake and mountains. Its elevation is approximately 1,800 meters (5,910 ft) above sea level. Its location ensures it is sunny here about 300 days per year. St. Moritz is a very famous vacation spot because of its skiing, healing springs, stunning blue-green lakes, world-famous Cresta Run toboggan course, and top-notch spas. Conveniently, you can travel from Zurich to St. Moritz with the train in 3 hours and 20 min. If you drive your car this route you will travel over the Julier pass.
The city attracts many wealthy visitors. St. Moritz is known for its expensive hotels like Badrutt's Palace hotel, as well as its exclusive shops and boutiques. There are many activities for visitors. Many come to see the White Turf horse race on the frozen lake. Others come to see the museums. The town features the Segantini museum to honor Giovanni Segantini (1858–1899) who was an important artist of Realistic Symbolism and a great Alpine painter. Additionally, the Engandine Museum explores the domestic culture and history of this region. Tourists are also able to ride a cable car to Chantarella - Corviglia - Piz Nair.
