The Music Man - The Lake Worth Playhouse
An affectionate paean to Smalltown, U.S.A. of a bygone era, THE MUSIC MAN follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he vows to organize -- this despite the fact he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall.
This award-winning, critically acclaimed Broadway classic is an all-American institution, thanks to its quirky characters, charming dramatic situations, and one-of-a-kind, nostalgic score of rousing marches, barbershop quartets and sentimental ballads which have become popular standards. The cast features a soaring soprano ingénue, parts for young performers and children, and one of the musical theatre's treasures, a tour de force leading role for a charismatic actor.
Kiss Me Kate -- Lake Worth Playhouse 10/14/82 -- Audio Only
In the autumn of 1982 I was chairman of the one-person audio department at the Lake Worth Playhouse in Lake Worth, Florida -- a community theater staffed entirely by volunteers. I placed omni-directional microphones in the house left and house right balconies -- just offstage at the front of the house -- and ran long lines to the sound booth at the back of the house, where I patched the mics into the sound board and finally into our state-of-the-art Sony cassette recorder. Armed with two TDK SA90 High Bias, 70EQ cassette tapes, I was ready to record for posterity the October 14, 1982 performance of Cole Porter's Kiss Me, Kate.
For this presentation I applied a hiss-reduction filter to the nearly 37-year-old recording as well as some EQ filters to mitigate unpleasant frequencies in the midrange. I further applied a light expansion filter to give the stereo recording a bit more depth. It's far from perfect, but it may be of interest to the participants as well as others who may be wondering what community theater sounded like in 1982.

Beautiful 3/2 with Pool
Welcome to the ''House of Light'' located in the heart of one of Lake Worth's most sought-after, historic neighborhoods. This meticulously and lovingly cared-for residence faces East to greet the morning sun as it rises over the Intracoastal Waterway, which is just one block away. From the road, this surprisingly large home is secluded and private, surrounded by mature lush landscaping. As you step through the front door, you will be delighted by the many distinctive features this home offers. The main living and dining areas boast beautiful original wood floors and built-in bookshelves. Natural light streaming through the numerous oversize windows graces the interior of the home.
The front part of the home contains two spacious bedrooms and one full bath. The large and ample closets are unusual for homes of this mid-century era.
As you pass through the dining room and kitchen area, there is a long enclosed breezeway bridging the front of the house to a huge, airy master suite. This back area, while attached to the main house, is very private and could easily be used as a separate mother-in-law or guest suite. There is an extra-large walk-in closet and a good-size master bath, as well as a spacious sitting area and office. Two doors lead to the outside from the master suite; one to a private sun-bathed courtyard, and the other to a tranquil and serene patio featuring a sparkling and inviting inground pool.
As you walk the meandering paths through the stunning, mostly native Florida gardens, past the courtyard and pool area, you will end up at another bonus feature; a detached 2-car garage. The possibilities are endless, as you can keep this back building as a garage, or convert it into a studio or pool cabana.
Together, with it's large square footage, ample closets and storage, abundant natural light, amazing lush landscaping, loads of original character, close proximity to the water and neighborhood parks, this inviting home is a rare gem not to be missed.
The city of Lake Worth is located on the shores of the Atlantic ocean, in the heart of Palm Beach County. Lake Worth is often referred to as one of the last remaining, original Old Florida towns. The downtown area is humming with locals and tourists alike, all enjoying the many restaurants, shops, music venues and events offered year-round. Most notably, Lake Worth is home to the Palm Beach Cultural Center, which is housed in a prominent mid-century modern building in the heart of downtown. Residents and visitors also enjoy a historic Playhouse, an independent movie theatre, a beautiful public golf course, a water-front pavilion and outdoor concert venue, newly renovated public boat launch, world-class kayaking through beautiful mangroves, and a wonderfully welcoming, diverse community of residents.
The proximity of Lake Worth to just about everything is unmatched. Miami is just 50 miles south. The equestrian city of Wellington borders to the west, and to the north, just about 5 miles, lies the island of Palm Beach.
The Palm Beach International airport is a quick 15 minute drive.

Lake Worth Veterans Parade, 11/11/2016
This traditional small town veterans parade was held in Lake Worth Florida. Lake Worth is located on Florida’s southeast coast in central Palm Beach County.
The video was shot using a small VERY INEXPENSIVE GoPro like camera ( ) and recorded on a 32gb SDHC card ( A six-year-old copy of Sony Vegas (ver 10) was used to add the title and audio track. The original audio was not recorded because I inadvertently muted the microphone while mounting the camera to a parking sign. The substituted audio is (creative commons) marching band music found on archive.org (

Global Water Dances 2017 - Boca Raton, Florida, USA
Our performance is part of the culmination of our 3-week summer dance intensive. This was the students’ modern performance. It started with a phrase of movement I created a year ago inspired by a sculpture of a wave. The students then wrote about water and its role in their lives. Using their writings, they created movement phrases and taught them to their classmates. I used elements of these phrases in the final choreography I created. We had 6 10-11 year olds and 5 12-16 year olds in the final performance. They are wearing blue and grey dance dresses to symbolize both clean and dirty water. The dirty to us meant both pollution and the floods we frequently experience here after rain because of Florida’s high water table.
The title of the dance is “Sometimes”, which came from the poem one of our students wrote as her water reflection.
The audience was introduced to our piece by viewing a video of the Global Water dance and hearing a recording of the poem.
Saint Andrew’s has its own pond, used for biology field work, as well as recreation. Additionally, we are less than 30min from the ocean. Florida has a high water table. That and our proximity to the ocean causes much concern about flooding. I had students reflect on water issues and uses in their lives. The themes that came up were: pollution (10-11yr) and sea level rise (12-16yr)

This great city is situated on the south shore of Lake Monroe, which is a widening of the St. John’s River. Did you know that you can sail all the way to the Atlantic Ocean from here? There's many yearly adventurers that set sail from the north east coast and head down to winter over in our marina. It’s wonderful to hear the stories they bring from home, and how much they enjoy being here. With an average high temperature of 82.7°, an average low temperature of 62.8° and an average temperature of 72.75°, what’s not to like? Sanford FL is the perfect place to vacation.
It’s easy to get here. The city is home to the Orlando-Sanford Airport, the Port of Sanford and Monroe Harbour Marina, as well as the southern terminus of the Amtrak Auto Train and a local stop on Sun Rail. Fly in, float, or load your vehicle, motorcycles or bicycles and ride the rails to get here. At the east end of town, sits Ft. Mellon Park, where you have a view of the lake. Here, children can cool off in the “splash pad” or play in the playhouse complete with slides. Play a game of hoops at the basketball courts or gather at one of the picnic pavilions.
If you are bringing your “best friend” with you, you’ll find many places to eat in Sanford FL that are dog-friendly. The city is also home to “Paw Park,” a place where they can make some new furr-ever friends and run and play, all within the safety of a fully-fenced park-like setting.
If it’s water you love, there are many activities to explore. Learn to sail, take a walk or jog along the Riverwalk, or take a cruise on the Rivership Barbara Lee. You can also rent a boat and explore the river on your own. There's alligators, so swimming is not recommended! It is fun to see them, and you will often find that the best times to do so is in the morning or late afternoon. During the winter months, you will see fewer of them that at other times of the year. You may also see numerous species of migratory songbirds as well as our resident birds, like Peregrine Falcons, who actually nest in downtown as well as along the shores of Lake Monroe. In this 9,406 acre lake lives an abundance of fish such as Crappies, Bluegill and Bass. It is considered one of the best fishing spots along the St. John’s River.
