This trek will start at the height of approximately 1450 MASL with a walk through the tea plantations for about 30 to 40 minutes. On reaching the summit, the trek will continue for a couple of hours on the ridge through stunningly beautiful grasslands with rocky mountain slope on one side and the tea plantations on the other with interspersed patches of Shola forest. On a clear day, we can see Anaimudi “The highest peak in South India”. We will also pass through a private coffee and cardamom plantation in the Shola Forest where there is a high chance to spot few of our endemic birds. We will have refreshments/picnic lunch at a suitable place during the trek. Similar to the start, the trek will finish with a walk through a tea plantation to meet our cab waiting to transfer us back to the hotel or to visit other destinations as per the program. Highest point of this trek will be about 1950 meters MASL appro

We spent 3 days in Munnar, and enjoyed every moment. Two of those days we hiked to Chokramudi Peak and in the Lakshmi Hills. The scenery was incredible!

SCRIPT:
The area known as the Western Ghats is a very long mountain range that runs parallel to the western coast of the Indian peninsula, located entirely in India.
In the southern part within the state of Kerala, there is Munnar, a beautiful hill station surrounded by rolling hills, dotted with tea plantations established in the late 19th century.
It sounded like a great place to explore, so for 90 rupees, we boarded a bus in the port town of Kochi 130 km away. It took 4 and a half hours to reach whilst along winding and scenic roads.8
Eager to explore the region, we booked an early morning hike through our hotel to go up Chok-ra-mudi mountain with a great local guide, Velu.
He picked us up at 5:00 am in the pitch black and bundled us together with another couple into the back of a tiny rickshaw.
We were driving into the middle of nowhere in the dead of night, along small bumpy roads, with barely enough space to move, and a canopy dropped over the sides so we couldn’t see outside. It felt like we were taking part in an illegal smuggling operation.
After 50 minutes we reached our starting point just as the sun was beginning to shed light on the dark sky.
Once we reached the summit, we enjoyed a delicious meal among the changing clouds and mist. An hour later, bellies full and feeling well rested we started our descent. We bumped into a group of young Indian army corps on training. So excited to see us, we were greeted with lots of handshakes and requests for selfies. They even waved their flag for us!
On the final stretch, we walked through a few tea plantations. We wanted to see more, so the next day we took a less arduous trek along Lakshmi hills with a friendly guide called Kumar. A short man with long fingernails and a gold tooth.
The scenery of the tea plantations was out of this world! The hierarchy of roads, tracks, and small paths separating curving rows of tea plants was sprinkled with huge, ancient rocks fallen from the higher parts of the mountain.
The region in and around Munnar varies in height from 1,500 m to 2,695 m above sea level, and is home to some amazing wildlife. We spotted a Malabar giant squirrel, his long tail hanging from a branch. Some trekkers ahead of us spotted a leopard crossing their path just meters away, and we saw elephant dung belonging to wild elephants.
We could have spent a lot more time tasting tea, finding more waterfalls and spotting wild animals, but it was time to move onto allepey and go exploring in the backwaters of Kerala.
On the bus to allepey, it was our fourth day admiring the tea plantations, and we were still blown away by the sheer beauty of this area. Goodbye munnar, you will be missed.

Munnar INDIA - Trek, Plantations & TEA REVIEW
WE VISITED MUNNAR IN MARCH 2019
MUNNAR, how beautiful you were! This is the perfect place for all tea lovers, there are miles and miles of tea plantations and in town you can get a tea tasting board, which I reviewed! We stayed at Lilly Grace homestay, this is the most wonderful homestay where the owners, Shiny and Sandeesh looked after us. They regularly offered us cardamon milk tea (which is amazing) and cooked us breakfast. They put us in contact with their brother in law, Anthony who we booked a full day trek through. It was an amazing 16km walk through banana, pepper and tea plantations. Anthony, having worked as a field officer for TATA, had an intensive knowledge of the plants and tea picking process. His wife cooked us an amazing egg curry fir lunch which we ate next to a waterfall. Even though we were walking all day , we only walked through (not around the whole) tea plantation we only saw about 1% of all the tea fields around Munnar. Anthony kindly invited us to have dinner with his family in the evening. After the trek, we quickly showered and popped into a Tuk tuk with Anthony to his house. We chatted with his family, especially his son, Alan, who was addicted to PUBG (we all have been there). His wife made the most amazing chicken biryani to which we both ate our weight in. Once completely full to the brim, a tuk tuk came to take us back to the homestay. We tried to offer to pay our way for both tuk tuks and dinner but Anthony refused. The next day Sandeesh sorted us out with hiring a tuk tuk for the day to see Top Station and many viewpoints along the way. Vishnu our driver was so friendly and regularly pointed out cool stuff for us to see. The drive took about 1 and half hours but the views were outstanding! We were hoping to see some wild elephants but luck wasn’t on our side. Anthony family was around the homestay for dinner so again offered to cook for us, it was a egg masala curry which again was beyond delicious. We had a chill day the next day, so popped into town to try some tea tasters, the town wasn’t that great so glad we didn’t stay in the town! It was starting to rain, our first rain of our trip, so we headed back to relax. Dan hung out with Anthony whilst I got a full body massage at the local spa. We then took a public bus the next day to Madurai!

MUNNAR HIKE - MISTY LETCHMI HILLS - TRAVELOGICS
Munnar is a town and hill station located in the Idukki district of the southwestern Indian state of Kerala. Munnar is situated at around 1,600 metres (5,200 ft) above sea level, in the Western Ghats range of mountains.
The nearest major railway stations are at Ernakulam and Aluva (approximately 140 kilometres (87 mi) by road).and nearest major airport is Kochi.
In this video you can enjoy Munnar tea estate/valley, Rose garden, Dams, Waterfalls. Road trip from Kochi to Munnar and some pics from spice garden.
It was nice experience to be with friends.
We had a Hike through the Letchmi Hills through a Private Property ( Cardamom Plantations ) during the rainy period.
It was disappointing that we were unable to complete the Hike as the Hill Top was covered of mist. But we really had a good experience.

Mountains hold a special place to all those who love and care about nature. That call took us three friends (Paul, Charly & myself) on a 20Km trek along with the Forest Patrol team manning the forests and mountains of the Marayoor Range in Kerala, India. Nature was at its best and the experience was ......... no words to explain. A special mention and salute goes to our forest officials and guards whose dedication and service keeps our nature intact as it is. Kudos !
