Hiking the Bar Island Trail (as it submerges!)
Here’s a novelty! A trail that exists for only 3 hours each day. Before embarking to Bar Island it is imperative that you consult the tide chart. If you don’t it’s a cold swim back to Bridge St!
Bar Island is located just north of downtown Bar Harbor, Maine.

Great Salt Lake Land Bridge
Sometimes the water is low enough that you can run across the Great Salt Lake from Antelope Island to other land masses.
Unfortunately it was colder than expected, and more water was on the sand bar... But it was definitely a unique experience!

ARE THERE BARS ON BAR ISLAND??
Got rained out for our last day in Acadia but we were still able to sneak across to Bar Island during low tide. Very worth the wet shoes! Just don't get stuck on the Island!

How magical it would be, we sometimes muse, to soar like an eagle, gazing down on a land we love.
High on Maine gives us our eagle's wings.
Produced by the same team which created the highly acclaimed video's Gift of Acadia and Maine America's Coast, this alluring new film takes to the skies over Maine for the most extensive and breathtaking aerial views of this state ever seen. From the dappled islands of the south to the rocky, foggy shores of the east, from the fertile fields of the far north to the mountains and lakes of the majestic west -- town and village, steeple and schooner -- this is Maine as you have never experienced it before.
From on high, we get High on Maine.
Jack Perkins, who wrote and narrates this video, has been a Mainer for the past decade. On national television, he hosts the successful series Biography on A&E.
John Cooper, who composes and performs the original score, is a well known jazz performer and music educator, teaching currently at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor.

Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, at 1,530 feet (466 meters), is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and the first place to view sunrise in the United States from October 7 through March 6. It is one of over 20 mountains on Mount Desert Island (MDI), Maine that were pushed up by earth's tectonic and volcanic forces millions of years ago. Were it not for the once enormous glaciers that sheared off their tops, they would be even higher than what we see today. You can easily see the results of this on a smaller scale by viewing the slopes on the Porcupine Islands in the distance. The North side is on the left and the steeper slope, or the down side, is on the right east side. The glaciers crept across the land here from the left to the right (in a southerly direction) and stretched out to sea as far as 400 miles (644 kilometers)!

Cadillac Mountain was named after the French explorer and adventurer, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac in 1918. Prior to this, it was known as Green Mountain. From about 1534 through 1763, a substantial part of the North American continent was colonized and under the control of France. Duing this time, it was known as New France and at its peak in 1712, extended all the way from Newfoundland to the Rocky Mountains to the West and the Gulf of Mexico to the South. In 1688, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe Sieur de Cadillac was given ownership of over 100,000 acres of land along the present day Maine coast which included Mount Desert Island and areas next to present day Union River.
The elevation is 1,530 feet (466.34m)

Cadillac Mountain used to be called Green Mountain.
In the late 1800's there was a hotel on the summit called Green Mountain House Hotel.
Huge continental glaciers sheered off the tops of the mountains.
The last glacial period impacting this area ended about 18,000 years ago.

Here it is! First U.S. National Park visit in the books! We saw puffins, climbed a steep hike, went to Cadillac Mountain, and ate lobster. The locations in this video are the reason I still think about Maine, even though it has been over a month since the trip. This was the first half of our trip to Maine- I'll be uploading another video about the sights we saw in Portland and the surrounding areas since I have more footage!
Remember to go outdoors and always drink your water :)
