Episode 18: Laoshan Scenic Area Seaside Ocean Road Cycling Ride Qingdao Travel, China 崂山风景区青岛海滨路航线
Qingdao is an incredible city offering so many places to play outdoors. We love to take our road bikes out and discover new areas and meet other cyclists.
The Laoshan Scenic Area seaside ocean road is TripAdvisor's #1 attraction in Qingdao so you MUST NOT miss it if you are in Qingdao and this video provides maps and instructions on how to do it and what you will see.
This was our first time getting through the guard gate entering the Laoshan Mountain area and exiting out the other gate. We call this the Forbidden Road because cyclists are not allowed after the guard gate opens at 7 am because there is no shoulder to the road for cyclists to ride on so if you want to ride it or drive it without a fee, cross the gate before 7 am.
It was a VERY hilly, undulating ride. We struggled with the many 15-20% graded hills, but we persisted. The scenery along the coast from guard gate to guard gate is barred none some of the most beautiful coastlines I have ever experienced and the ride is challenging and interesting. We love it and it has become our favorite ride in Qingdao. Once we leave the coast and get on the Provincial Road to we pass over another mountain which is the steepest to head back home.
Next time, we might go and return on the same seaside road. This is definitely a must-see when you visit Qingdao. You can opt to do this path in a car, bus or on a bike!

500 days to go till Nanjing 2014 - Olympic champion Lin Dan shows his support
In exactly 500 days, the eyes of the world will be on the city of Nanjing for the opening of the second Summer Youth Olympic Games - and we can't wait!
In celebration of this countdown date, the Chinese city has been buzzing with activity and hundreds of school pupils marked the occasion by donning their trainers for a long-distance running race.
In the build-up, volunteers and young journalists also took part in a tree-planting day held at Laoshan Forest Park and even further afield, the 'Dream Bicycle Team' of Nanjing 2014 completed a tour of Chinese Taipei spreading the message of the Youth Olympic Games.
But wherever you are, fans far and wide can join in the celebrations by checking out the new official Nanjing 2014 website nanjing2014.org - which has been launched today.
And finally, we caught up with national hero and two-time Olympic badminton gold medallist Lin Dan, who pledged his support for the Youth Olympic Games in this short film.

Zhuhai -China - The New Summer Palace
Lying at the foot of the Stone Forest Mountain of Zhuhai, the New Yuanming Palace covers an area of 1.39 square kilometers (343.5 acres). Being built and opened to the public in 1997, it reproduces 18 scenic spots of Old Summer Palace in the same size. Although the total area is just 1/6 of the original Old Summer Palace, the concentrated historical garden attracts millions of visitors every year. This palace was praised as the Provincial Patriotism Education Base; and in 2000 it was evaluated as the National AAAA Tourist Area.

SUMMARY
=======
Shandong (山东; formerly romanised as Shantung) is a coastal province of the People's Republic of China, and is part of the East China region.
Shandong has played a major role in Chinese history from the beginning of Chinese civilization along the lower reaches of the Yellow River and served as a pivotal cultural and religious site for Taoism, Chinese Buddhism, and Confucianism. Shandong's Mount Tai is the most revered mountain of Taoism and one of the world's sites with the longest history of continuous religious worship. The Buddhist temples in the mountains to the south of the provincial capital of Jinan were once among the foremost Buddhist sites in China. The city of Qufu is the birthplace of Confucius, and was later established as the center of Confucianism.
Shandong's location at the intersection of ancient as well as modern north–south and east–west trading routes have helped to establish it as an economic center. After a period of political instability and economic hardship that began in the late 19th century, Shandong has emerged as one of the most populous (95,793,065 inhabitants at the 2010 Census) and most affluent provinces in the People's Republic of China with a GDP of CNY¥5.942 trillion in 2014, or USD$967 billion, making it China's third wealthiest province.
