Scottish Vintage Bus Museum 21st Open Weekend
I spent a Great weekend in Lathalmond for The 21st Open Weekend at The Scottish Vintage Bus Museum. I cant believe Five years have passed since my last visit, and once again I was not disappointed. A regular service using a large variety of buses operated between Dunfermline and The SVBM. An internal service linked the Workshops to the Exhibition Hall and Stalls Sheds.
The Shed 47 Restoration Group offered visitors the chance to take a ride in the brake van hehind Hunslet D2650.
Please feel free to have a look at my short video of the Railway at:
On both days there was opportunity to take a Forth Bridges Tour on board two Open Top Buses.
I would like to Thank everyone involved with, what can only be described as a Fantastic, well organised and thoroughly enjoyable Event.
I look forward to seeing you all at the 22nd Open Weekend.

Did you ever wondered what happens with the old buses when their mileage gets too high, they are too old and rusty or the design just go out of fashion? Do they end up forgotten, sad on some ancient metal recycling site? We visited the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum to find out!

China Motor Bus LV36 Leyland Victoy Mk2 ESF647W (CH9399) Scottish Vintage Bus Museum Openday 2019
LV36 was gifted to the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum by its previous owner New World First Bus Ltd. after the bus was withdrawn from service. For the last 20 years it has been enjoying the retirement life in Dunfermline, Scotland.
In the Mid-1970s, bus operators in Hong Kong had adopted one-man operation, and were running with the new rear-engined Daimler/Leyland Fleetlines. These buses however were developing faults under the harsh working condition on Hong Kong roads, and their performance on hilly roads were unsatisfactory. British bus manufactures had seized the production of traditional front-engined buses long ago; therefore both companies had to look for alternatives. China Motor Bus (CMB) looked into other options available, including the Metro-Scania Metropolitan, Volvo Ailsa B55s and Ashok Leyland Titans, whereas Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) trialled 4 Guy Victoy J modified and bodied by the South African coachbuilder BUSAF. Some of these buses had the right concept, with the engine and the entrance located at the front overhang, but they all had their own problems. Dennis saw the opportunity and provided KMB with 4 brand new front-engined chassis named the Jubilant for testing, and successfully won a contract of 50 vehicles. This pressured Leyland into developing the Leyland Victory Mk2, which as the name suggested, was based on the Guy Victory J.
The Victory Mk2, nicknamed the “Chicken” due to its “nodding” behaviour from the soft front suspension and the similarity in the word’s Cantonese pronunciation with “Guy” , is fitted with a Gardner 6LXB engine producing 179bhp and a Voith DIWA 851 3-speed automatic gearbox, linked to a Guy planetary hub reduction rear axle. This vehicle, like the majority of its kind, has a Walter Alexander CB type body. The model is also known for its height and high centre of gravity, and had been involved in a number of rollover accidents back in the day.
I was still a small child when the Vcitoy Mk2s were phased out from the fleets of Hong Kong, and never had a chance to ride on them. I couldn’t hold back my excitement when I saw LV36 in person, a bus that is specifically designed for the Hong Kong market. It was brought out to run the internal shuttle service once in the morning, and twice in the afternoon, each lasted for several roundtrips of the shuttle route. The bodywork is in a superb condition, and on top of that, several Hong Kong Bus enthusiasts visited recently and decorated it with authentic writings and stickers. Some odd metal clunking noise was coming from the drive train and the gearbox was a bit jittery when changing up, but the engine was very lively and overall it performed tremendously. The ride was living up to its nickname and was quite bouncy when going over bumps, still relatively comfy when compared to a Fleetline or Atlantean, though. It was a shame that LV36 couldn’t run a service outside the Museum at the moment, it was because of a problem with its license, according to the driver. Hopefully we could see it running on trips soon.
P.S. If you have managed to read through all this, I should probably point out that this is not a video by FF3170, despite the similarity in video editing style, it was merely a shameless copy so I don’t have to come up with my own format *insert appropriate emoji*.
Thank you for watching!
Scottish Vintage Bus Museum / SVBM - 8th April 2012
A small selection of the near 200 buses within the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum, at Lathalmond, near Dunfermline. Sorry the qualit of the video is not great, but the pictures were taken using a mobile phone. They really do no justice to the condition and restoration of the vehicles.
SVBM is well worth a visit, a cheap day out, and a chance to see buses from yesteryear .....

Von Kessinger's Express WWII Reenactment at the Florida Railroad Museum, 2014
This was the Von Kessinger's Express WWII Reenactment at the Florida Railroad Museum in November 2014. This was an awesome reenactment even if the German reenactors go a little overboard to the passengers sometimes. I love two things, trains and WWII history and this had both! The steam engine shots were of FlagG Coal 75 when it visited the museum several times. All the music I used is royalty free.
