Nono, Ecuador - a Day Trip from Quito
One hour drive outside of Quito Ecuador is a little mountain village that time forgot. Nono Ecuador truly is like traveling back in time. Horses, cows, and llamas live in the center of town, dogs roam free, and the air is fresh and clean. The cost of living here is very low. My breakfast with a snack for later cost $1.60. This is the good live, if you can handle the high altitude, cold climate, and intense equatorial sun. I never did find a good spot for wild trout fishing, though there is a stocked pond and I'm sure if I keep looking I'll find a good mountain stream to fish.

QUITO | Exploring Ecuador's Capital in the Andes
When I traveled to Ecuador three years ago it was an eye-opening experience. I arrived in Quito at night with no knowledge of the city. It would be a pleasant surprise as the charming city is the world’s first UNESCO Cultural Heritage City. As a solo backpacker on a tight budget I barely scratched the surface, I knew I would have to return one day with Cameron and explore deeper.
Now we just wrapped up our first visit together to the historic city. It was a wonderful Andean adventure that we got to sink our teeth into Ecuadorian culture. I liked my time in Quito the first time around, but I absolutely fell in love with it the second time. We spent a few days chatting with local artisans, hopping into historic churches, and trying delicious Ecuadorian food.
????Special Thanks to Metropolitan Touring ( and Casa Gangotena ( for showing us around. They run fantastic tours in Ecuador

Through the Otavalo Market & Condor Park
In this Travel Vlog I make a day trip from Quito to Otavalo. Famed for its market, I started the day off with the often overlooked Condor Park. This place is amazing. Wit two daily performances, you get to see owls, hawks, eagles and condors up close.
After that, I shopped the market, one of the largest in Latin America. It's best known for it's colorful textiles. I got to try my hand at some bartering.
I finished my day trip up with some beers at Cava Caran. My personal favourite? One infused with cactus.

Latin America, South America Adventure! My trip to ECUADOR video highlights

Introduction to Ecuador 12-day Motorcycle Tour
Ecuador is one of the most geographically, culturally, and biologically diverse countries in the world. Amazing landscapes encompassing rainforests,Andean mountain ranges, coastal ranges, deserts and tropical grasslands make this South American country a haven for astonishing wildlife, stunning panoramas as well as rich anthropological and cultural sites.
This tour will take you to all of the best that continental Ecuador has to offer on this absolutely unforgettable trip.
We will visit all of the major regions of continental Ecuador - the Andes, the Coast and the Amazon Basin. We will have time to explore the major cities of Quito, Guayaquil, Loja, Manta, Esmeraldas and Cuenca, including many places declared World Heritage Sites by the United Nations. We will experience the various cuisines and cultures of Ecuador such as the creole cuisine in Esmeraldas, fresh coffee from plantations in Loja, fresh chocolate from the cacao plantations near Guayaquil and Manta and the unique cheeses made in Salinas de Guaranda.
One of the things that sets a motorcycle trip apart from other types of tourism are the scents, fragrances and aromas that you can experience while riding - you can't experience these while travelling in a bus or car. Ecuador provides you with a feast for all your senses - you will pass through brilliant fields of multi-colored roses, see wild orchids in the rainforests, smell the eucalyptus and pine forests, ripening bananas, and ride through salty mist along the shore. You'll smell the fresh, wood-oven baked bread in colonial cities.
The tour will also take you off the beaten track to explore some of the wild areas of Ecuador. It is one of the most adventurous tours that you can do, giving you access to untouched wildlife and unforgettable insight into how native Ecuadorians have lived for centuries.

Traveling Ecuador by train | DW Travel Documentary
The train line through Ecuador is considered one of the most spectacular train lines in South America. A train journey of discovery.
The Trans-Andean railroad takes in the infamous Nariz del Diablo, or Devil’s Nose, a mountain with almost perpendicular walls. To overcome this obstacle, the train zigzags to ascend 500 meters in less than 12 kilometers. With steep ascents and descents, it’s no ride for the faint-hearted! The main line along the country’s Andean spine links the coastal city of Guayaquil with the capital Quito. It was finished in 1908, but was mostly shut down after a series of weather-related disasters destroyed much of the Ecuadorian rail network in the 1990s. After extensive restoration, a new cross-Andean service was opened in 2013, following the original narrow-gauge line. It’s 450 kilometers long and runs from the Pacific coast up to the Andean highlands. On its cross-country journey, the train is accompanied by guards on motorcycles who, in the absence of railway gates, stop traffic at every level crossing along the way to let the train pass. The Tren Crucero, - or cruise train- is the centerpiece of Ecuador’s rejuvenated railway. A revamped luxury steam train, it runs once a fortnight and has room for 54 passengers. The most exhilarating stretch of the ride begins deep down in the gorge of the River Chanchán. The train zigzags up the Nariz del Diablo - the Devil's Nose - in a series of dizzying switchbacks in which the tracks almost seem to lie on top of each other. Join the reporters for the ride of a lifetime, as the train journeys on to Urbina, the highest station at 3,609 meters above sea level, and along the so-called Avenue of Volcanoes, to the Cotopaxi National Park and onwards to Quito, the world's highest capital.

Ecuador is one of the most diverse countries in the world though it's comparably tiny. Beside the Galapagos Islands (which is the #1 tourist destination in Ecuador) the country has a lot more to offer, therefore I focussed on La Sierra in this video which is a paradise for landscape lovers and outdoor adventurers.
Another reason to visit the Andean region is that you have the chance to dive into the local culture and get a real feeling of Ecuador. The places to see in Ecuador I focussed on in this short video are the result of my own travels along the center from north to south and are easily doable in 2 weeks time.
Things to do in Ecuador covered in this video:
01) 00:36 - Otavalo market in Otavalo
02) 01:00 - Hike the Cuicocha lake
03) 01:25 - Middle of the World, Mitad del Mundo & Quitsato in Cayambe
04) 01:48 - Quito, capital & UNESCO World Heritage
05) 02:08 - Termas de Papallacta (hot springs)
06) 02:24 - Cayambe Coca National Park
07) 02:45 - Quilotoa & Shalala viewpoint
08) 03:13 - Tren Crucero & Nariz del Diablo (Devil's nose)
09) 03:47 - Inka ruins in Ingapirca
10) 04:04 - Cuenca & it's beautiful old town

Day9 (Quito) - PLAZA FOCH Ground Zero LIVE Mariscal for 10 Day Ecuador & Amazon Adventure (May)
Plaza Foch = Ground Zero in Mariscal !
Warning: Remember that at night Quito can be quite dangerous, especially near the bars and clubs. Take a cab, even if it's only for a few blocks (it costs UP TO $4 bucks the most!).
From elegant opera performances to dirt-cheap all-you-can-drink bars, Quito offers a range of nocturnal activities for visitors and locals alike.
The MARISCAL sector = the hub for partying and dining out; it has restaurants and here today, gone tomorrow pubs and clubs pumping out popular salsa and infectious reggaetón beats until daybreak.
The heart and soul of Quito's nightlife, the Mariscal district has been dubbed GRINDGOLANDIA by those who flock to the area to drink and dance the night away with the city's tourists and resident foreigners.
Plaza FOCH (FOCH, YEAH! also known as Plaza Quinde) -- has been transformed from a seedy, run-down intersection to the area's star attraction.
Its selection of bars and international restaurants targets visitors in search of more upscale nightspots.
In addition to hitting the bars, clubs, and restaurants right on the plaza, you can use the plaza as a great starting place for a bar or club crawl through the rest of the Mariscal district.
*** LONG LINE seen here is for the... ATM!
ALWAYS, the ATMs in Quito seem to have lots of people staying in line!...

Traveling is embedded into our relationship as we met on a Spring Break cruise in 2016. Since then, we haven't stopped traveling together in the United States and abroad. We left New York in July 2019 to travel the world and we took work with us. We have made it our mission to slow travel for 16 months throughout South America and Asia.
Traveling Atlas was created to capture our moments of taking risk, building connections, and seeing the world. We will be staying in each country we visit for about a month in order to experience cultures to our maximum capacity and to inspire others that they can do the same. We are Brandon and Erin, follow the journey and stay tuned.
