Original Savannah Georgia tax 'shelter'
Amusing anecdote on one of the myriad of taxes in the good ole days, love the Georgia accent of the commentator. Noted that the 'colonies' derived their wealth selling goods to Britain & turned that wealth on Britain to gain independence... typical offspring...

2012 Confederate Memorial Day - Sons of Confederate Veterans - WWW.SCVSAVANNAH.COM
Observance of Confederate Memorial Day at Forsyth Park in beautiful Savannah, Georgia! Each year at the confederate monument we observe Confederate Memorial Day to honor our confederate ancestors. I hope you enjoy the video of the event. Hosted once again by the Savannah Militia Camp 1657. This year's speaker was our very own Commander... Don Newman! Don't forget to visit WWW.SCVSAVANNAH.COM to learn more about how you can honor your ancestors too. It's all about Heritage... Not hate. Join us today!
An honor guard detail fired a 21 gun salute in honor of the soldiers from all of the southern ranks who paid the ultimate sacrifice between 1861-65. Members from the 22nd Georgia Artillery and the Black Creek Artillery fired a 21 gun salute with field artillery in honor of these same heroes.
At the conclusion of the events at Forsythe Park, we moved to Laurel Grove Cemetery where we paid tribute to the brave southern soldiers who perished in the Battle of Gettsyburg, 1-3 July 1863, and to the Savannah Volunteer Guards. These were equally two moving ceremonies. When I learned that only sixteen men from the Savannah Volunteer Guards surrendered to Federal troops with eight of them being Negro musicians and cooks less than a week before General Lee surrendered I know why I was there today.
On behalf of Commander Don Newman and myself of the Savannah Militia Camp 1657, a special thank you goes out to all of the men and women who made this a very special day in Savannah. A thank you goes out to those individuals who were part of the honor guard details, Francis S. Bartow Camp #93 for hosting this event, the Savannah Volunteer Guards, the fine ladies from the United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter 2, Captain Rick Phillips and Lieutenant Jim Willis of the 8th Georgia Infantry CoE, Captain Phillip Coleman of the 22nd Georgia Artillery who commanded the artillery field pieces, Mr. Stephen Newsome of the Savannah Militia Camp #1657 who videoed the entire events at Forsythe Park and Mr. Bobby Smith who directed the professional sound system for this grand event.
For those of you who were not in attendance on this date, the events at Forsythe Park will be downloaded on our web site at SCVSavannah.com for you to view. See attached photos and forward to those on your respective email lists.
Respectfully, Your
Obedient Servant
Ron Coats

Located in the left corner when you take a picture of the tomb stone, it wont come out..
HUNGRY FOR HISTORY?: “The German Hun in the Georgia Sun: Enemy Aliens in WWI Georgia”
The United States declared war on Imperial Germany on April 6, 1917. With the beginning of hostilities, American fears of sabotage escalated. What resulted was the internment of thousands of German enemy aliens, German nationals considered a threat to Americans and the war effort. Many enemy aliens found themselves guests behind the barbed wire at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. For years, both German elites and average men lived at the North Georgia compound. In spite of their imprisonment, these men created a prison society and sought opportunities for artistic growth and intellectual development.
Speaker: Leisa Vaughn completed her bachelor’s degree in history from Middle Georgia State University and completed a master’s in history with a graduate certificate in public history at Georgia Southern University. While at Georgia Southern, Leisa completed an internship with the Georgia Historical Society and developed the in-school programming for the annual Georgia History Festival. Her thesis, The German Hun in the Georgia Sun: German Prisoners of War in Georgia offered a comparative analysis of the prisoner of war programs of World War I and World War II in the state.
700 Pound Snake Pulled out of Lake in North Carolina
Giant 700 pound snake caught in lake in Proctor, North Carolina. The giant man eating python was measured at 98 feet long. Police were contacted to see if there have been any recently filed missing person reports as a snake this big could have surely eaten a human.
This giant snake is massive and just gorgeous, but it didn't take long to find out that the STORY behind it... was fake, just another hoax.
While the image is indeed real, I think the size of the giant snake could have been exaggerated due to the camera angle
Nevertheless, this snake is still huge, but where did it come from? The markings on it's skin looks similar to that of a reticulated python native to Southeast Asia. After playing around with a little Google translate, the mystery was finally solved.
This giant python came from Indonesia and after some rough translating, it turns out that it was discovered this last Thanksgiving near the village of Belinyu City. It was found by accident by a group of construction workers who severely injured the reptile while knocking down a large dead tree in which the python was sleeping inside of. The workers put the dying snake out of it's misery and buried it.
It's sad to see such an incredible animal killed, especially one that could have been a new world record size. I wish there were more pictures so we could get a better idea of just how large it was.
I really enjoyed learning about this amazing snake, if you guys have any cool wildlife stories or interesting animals that you think I might enjoy, tell me about it on Facebook

EVP - Old St. Patrick's Cemetery
Saturday. May 10th 2008. 9:48 p.m. Paul and I set out for an investigation in one of Illinois Haunted Cemeteries. We always say a prayer before our investigations. Not actually hearing anything in the cemetery, we did pick up a phenomenon as we entered it's gates. Sounds like, Nice Prayer. At least they still have respect.

SUMMARY
=======
Savannah () is the oldest city in the U.S. state of Georgia and is the county seat of Chatham County. Established in 1733 on the Savannah River, the city of Savannah became the British colonial capital of the Province of Georgia and later the first state capital of Georgia. A strategic port city in the American Revolution and during the American Civil War, Savannah is today an industrial center and an important Atlantic seaport. It is Georgia's fifth-largest city, with a 2017 estimated population of 146,444. The Savannah metropolitan area, Georgia's third largest, had an estimated population of 387,543 in 2017.Each year Savannah attracts millions of visitors to its cobblestone streets, parks, and notable historic buildings: the birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low (founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA), the Georgia Historical Society (the oldest continually operating historical society in the South), the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences (one of the South's first public museums), the First African Baptist Church (one of the oldest African-American Baptist congregations in the United States), Temple Mickve Israel (the third oldest synagogue in America), and the Central of Georgia Railway roundhouse complex (the oldest standing antebellum rail facility in America).Savannah's downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District, and 22 parklike squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States (designated by the U.S. government in 1966). Downtown Savannah largely retains the original town plan prescribed by founder James Oglethorpe (a design now known as the Oglethorpe Plan). Savannah was the host city for the sailing competitions during the 1996 Summer Olympics held in Atlanta.
