Lava Tree State Park
Taking a complete walk around the Lava Tree State Park in Pahoa, Hawaii.
Lava Tree Park On Big Island, Hawaii-UHD 4K
This unusual volcanic feature is the result of a lava flow that swept through this forested area and left behind lava molds of the tree trunks. Lava Tree State Monument is a park on the island of Hawaii. It takes about 30 min to complete the walk around the park. There is no charge for parking and entry and there are restrooms.
The Big Island is the largest and the southeastern-most of the Hawaiian islands, a chain of volcanic islands in the North Pacific Ocean. With an area of 4,028 square miles (10,430 km2), it is larger than all of the other islands in the archipelago combined and is the largest island in the United States.

As a Hawaii Island community was inundated with lava erupting from the Kilauea volcano, the Hawaii National Guard was activated. Calling Soldiers and Airmen to perform their state mission to insure the residents of Hawaii County are safe and that their property remains secure.

The security teams provided 24-hour support of communities at specific checkpoints
Pfc. Mariel Calivoso
Command and Control was provided at a joint emergency operations center, where the ever-evolving conditions on the ground changed as new volcanic fissures opened each day.
LT. Col. Shawn Tsuha - Commander Task Force Hawaii
A public affairs team was also dispatched to assist Hawaii county authorities with on-site lava coverage and also coordinating media inquiries from international, national and local media outlets.
National Guard Civil Support Teams from Hawaii’s 93rd CST and Arizona’s 91st CST, provided around-the-clock monitoring of sulfur dioxide levels that protects first responder and residents of Puna.
Members of the community were very grateful for the support.
LT. Col. Shawn Tsuha - Commander Task Force Hawaii
Plans are also being developed, in the possible case scenario where a large section of the community gets cut off by an active lava flow.

Driving To See The Lava Flow - Big Island Hawaii
This is the road which takes you to the only sanctioned viewing area where it's possible to see the current lava flow from the slopes of Kilauea reach the ocean. The road is little more than a thin layer of asphalt laid directly over previous lava flows which covered the old road. There is a parking area at the end of the road. Before getting to the viewing area (the walk is nowhere near as long or treacherous as you are led to believe...) you have to run the gauntlet of vendors who are trying to sell you flashlights, water, walking sticks, pictures, etc., out of the trunks of their cars.
Big Island, Hawaii (They don't get much bigger than this)
One of my favorite things to do anywhere I travel, is drive around and absorb everything I come across. When I went on my trip to the Big Island of Hawaii in 2009, I hadn't really seen any cool driving videos of it. So I took up the task of filming a lot of the areas that I drove through. Not easy, driving by myself and having a heavy camera! But I did it. A little shaky at times, but I did it!
I compiled my hour's worth of driving videos into a short and sweet 4 minute montage. Here, you get the best bits of my trip. AND, you get a sweet song that I wrote and recorded just for this video, as well!
This is my first venture at the whole multi-media experience. While I am a photographer and musician, I had never worked those together, much less with video. Feel free to leave any constructive criticism, it will be well appreciated.

This mesmerising video shows lava being thrown up from Fissure 17 in Pahoa, Hawaii just off the 132 highway.
The amazing video and pictures were captured by photographer, Joseph Anthony, 44 who grew up in the UK.
He is currently in an exclusion zone set up by the National Guard are working together with the United States Geological Survey, the Hawaii Fire Department and the National Park Service.
The Fissure 17 has only just recently opened and is slowly moving towards the East coast of Hawaii.
Pictures also show the National Guard using equipment to measure sulphur dioxide gasses in the air.
Hawaiian authorities have sealed off the area and are getting increasingly alarmed as the level of the crater lake of Kilauea has dropped so much, it is hard to measure the level and once the lava level goes below the water table, it may cause an explosion of fallen rocks and trapped steam.
