The city lies on a flood plain at the southwestern end of Lake Neuchâtel.

Walk through the streets of Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland in this video. You will get a feel for this historic and important spa resort town located in Kanton Vaud near Lake Neuchâtel. While many Swiss towns containing lakes are usually organized around the lake, Yverdon is different. The town is about half an hour from the lake shores. However, the city was the recipient of the Wakker Prize in 2009 for efforts they made to connect the old town with the lake.
In addition to lake Neuchâtel, the natural features of the Jura mountains, Orbe plains, and the Brove hills define this town’s charm. They also create an idyllic setting for the thermal-spas (often recognized as Switzerland’s most important spas). These thermal springs are renowned for their high content of magnesium and Sulphur, as well as a beautifully renovated spa facilities and attached 4 star hotel. These structures are built upon historic Roman spas that recognized the healing benefits of these springs nearly 6000 years earlier.
Historically, Yverdon held significance in for the Roman Empire as it connected the Rhone and Rhine basins as well as the Rhone and the Danube and offered control over major routes like the Geneva-Avenches. The Roman Castrum (meaning strong hold) was a naval and military base designed to offer defense for the Roman Empire’ northeaster board along the Rhine. It featured huge ramparts and 15 masonry towers that spanned over the 5 acers. These features made Yverdon a civic center as well as a resort town and defense strategy. Barbarians conquered Italy in the 5th centrury and endangered Rome in the process. Because of this threat the Yverdon camp had to be abandoned. The residents of Eburodunum, who lived on the outskirts of the camp, overtook the Castrum.
If you visit Yverdon, you will not have shortage of things to do. There are a number of unusual museums to visit including, the Europe’s first Sifi Museum, a Swiss fashion museum, and a museum honoring Swiss pedagogue Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi who was connected to Jean-Jaques Rosseau. Additionally, as you will see in this video a few castles to tour including Savoy Castle (dating from the 14th century, a prominent landmark in the old town), Palace Pestalozzi, Yverdon Castle, Palace d’ armes, and Theater Benno Besson. In the summer you can also enjoy water sports and beautiful hiking.

Le Château a été construit de 1260 à 1270 par Jacques de Saint-Georges, sur ordre du duc Pierre II de Savoie, pour protéger la ville.
Le Temple a été bâti en 1757 par l'architecte Billon de Genève à la place de l'ancienne Chapelle Notre-Dame dont il a gardé le clocher, qui avait été reconstruit en 1608 d'après un original du XIVe siècle.
L'hôtel de ville a été construit entre 1768 et 1773 sur le modèle de l'Hôtel de musique de la ville de Berne.
L'ancienne prison de district (actuellement Maison d'Ailleurs, musée de la science fiction) a été bâtie selon les plans de l'architecte lausannois Alexandre Perregaux (1805).
Ces quatre bâtiments bordent la Place Pestalozzi, qui constitue le centre de la ville d'Yverdon-les-Bains.

Am Westufer des Lac de Neuchâtel, wo die Thielle die fruchtbare Schwemmebene der Plaine d'Orbe verlässt, liegt Yverdon-les-Bains (433 m ü. M.). Die Stadt mit dem historischen Kern bietet mit seinen Thermalbädern unter anderem für Kurgäste ausreichend Möglichkeiten zum Badevergnügen. Das Château de Yverdon-les-Bains stammt aus dem 13. Jh. und verfügt an einer Ecke über einen Donjon (dt. Bergfried). Dieser Schlosstyp mit dem charakteristischen rechteckigen Grundriss in der Form eines «Carré savoyard» und den vier Ecktürmen ist in der Romandie häufiger anzutreffen.
Die Thielle fliesst aus der Plaine de l'Orbe (dt. Orbeebene) in den Lac de Neuchâtel (dt. Neuenburgersee), den grössten vollständig in der Schweiz liegenden See. Über zwei Kanäle ist der Lac de Neuchâtel mit dem Murten- und dem Bielersee verbunden und dient somit als Ausgleichsbecken für die Aare.
Yverdon-les-Bains (433 m above sea level) lies at the western shore of Lake Neuchâtel, where the river Thielle leaves the fertile floodplain of the Plaine d'Orbe. This city with its historic center has thermal baths to offer to spa guests, among others, for enough possibilities to enjoy a swim. The Château de Yverdon-les-Bains was built in the 13th century and has a donjon in one corner. This type of palace with a characteristically rectangular floor plan in the form of a Carré savoyard and four turrets is quite frequent in Romandy.
The river Thielle runs from the Plaine de l'Orbe (Orbe plain) into Lake Neuchâtel (French: Lac de Neuchâtel, German: Neuenburgersee), the largest lake completely on Swiss territory. Lake Neuchâtel is connected with Lake Murten and Lake Biel-Bienne via two channels, and in doing so forms an equalizing reservoir for the river Aar.
