SECRET MOROCCAN TEAHOUSE in ALICANTE PROVINCE SPAIN (Carmen del Campillo) | Spain Travel Vlog
Travel is always a great opportunity to try and find those hidden gems, to me, that despite being incredible, they have not yet been spoilt by tourists. This time, I really do think I've found one.
The Carmen del Campillo complex and Moroccan/Maghrebi teahouse is absolutely magnificent with lovely house, huts, extensive garden and everything! The teahouse really is decorated in such an authentic way that you truly feel like you have been transported to Morocco or to some other country in North Africa or the Maghrebi region despite this Moroccan teahouse being situated in the Valencia region, Alicante Province of Spain!
The mint tea, pastries and sweets are also delicious of course and the Moroccan staff are super friendly. It was a lovely, nostalgic experience to me to be able to enjoy these Moroccan delicacies as I am used to enjoying them quite often at home, but not as much since I've been living in Spain. Hope you enjoy the travel vlog!

The Best of Spain - Sevilla
According to legend, Sevilla was founded by Hercules, and was called Hispalis under the Romans, and Isbiliya with the Moors. One of the largest historical centers in Europe, Sevilla has the minaret of La Giralda, the Cathedral (one of the largest in Christendom), and the Alcázar Palace. Part of its treasure include Torre del Oro, the Town Hall, Archive of the Indies (where the historical records of the Philippines and Spanish colonies in the American continent are kept), the Fine Arts Museum (the second largest picture gallery in Spain) , Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza (a famous bullring), and Plaza de España, the site of an international exhibition (1929). The administrative capital of Andalucía, Sevilla is the largest town in Southern Spain, the city of Carmen, Don Juan and Figaro, and the birthplace of two Roman emperors, Trajan and Hadrian.

Georges Bizet wrote Carmen for the Paris Opera Comique, and thus the original version had dialogue. The Comic Opera Guild, which traditionally performs Comic Operas in English, thus felt comfortable producing this version, in a translation by Michael Irwin. Not all Operas Comique were comedies, but were usually more realistic in nature than the works produced at the Grand Opera, because of the spoken word. This production, from 2000, was set during the 1868 rebellion in Puerto Rico rather than Spain by director Brad Rondeau. It is conducted by Timothy Semanik.
Carmen (Kristin Walukas), arrested for fighting, seeks to seduce the young corporal Don Jose (Paul Mow) into releasing her. Although he resists for a time, her wiles conquer him in the end. For more comic operas and operettas, visit comicoperaguild.org.

Antonio Arámburo - Carmen
Antonio Arámburo (1838-1912) presents one of the most fascinating stories of any tenor in history. Born to a wealthy family in Erla in the Spanish province of Zaragoza, Arámburo began studying to become an engineer in his mid-20s. After a year or two, however, he realized that he was on the wrong track (just as he had with every other career he had attempted) and turned to his first love, singing. Arámburo made his way to Madrid, where took up studies with celebrated vocal coach Antonio Cordero (1823-1882). The young tenor spent six years under Cordero’s tutelage, building a solid technique and gaining an impressive knowledge of opera and song literature. His operatic debut occurred in 1871 as Faone in Pacini’s Saffo at Milan’s Teatro Carcano. Word of the new tenor spread quickly and Arámburo found himself in demand throughout Italy. Appearances in Venice and Florence followed and within two years the tenor was singing throughout Europe. Arámburo’s first overseas performance took place when he sang Fernando in La Favorita at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires in 1874. Other important debuts followed, including Barcelona’s Liceo, Moscow’s Bolshoi, Milan’s La Scala, as well as the major theaters of Berlin, Seville, Paris, Warsaw, Havana, Montevideo and Santiago. His diverse repertoire included leads in La Forza del Destino, Aïda, Rigoletto, Norma, Il Guarany, L’Africaine, Poliuto, Carmen and others. He was heralded as equal…even superior…to his legendary contemporaries Gayarre, Stagno, Tamberlick, Tamagno and Masini and soon became to be regarded as one of the top tenors of Western Europe.
In spite of the triumphs and the accolades, Arámburo’s career path was a complicated one. The tenor’s behavior was becoming erratic, unpredictable and just downright bizarre. Some blamed Arámburo’s antics on stage fright. Others opined that it could have been alcohol related. However, the general consensus was (and is) that Arámburo suffered from some form of mental illness, possibly bipolar disorder or even schizophrenia. His tantrums were the stuff of legend and he was known to walk out of performances for any perceived slight. During an 1882 Trovatore at Madrid’s Teatro Real, he learned that King Alfonso and Queen Maria Cristina, who were to attend the performance, had not shown up. Enraged, the tenor left via the fire door, walked to the city’s plaza, and there, in full costume and makeup, sang “Di quella pira” for surprised onlookers. During a Lucia at La Scala, he was perturbed by the poor reception given a debutant soprano and left the theater in protest. The management went to his hotel, where they found him in his underwear, frying a pan of breadcrumbs on his stove. As they pleaded with him to return, he draped a rag over his head and began to serenade them with Spanish folksongs. He then invited the men to sit on the floor and partake of the pan of breadcrumbs with him! Arámburo announced that he no longer wished to sing at La Scala and asked to be released from his contract, a request that was promptly granted.
In spite of his disturbing behavior, Arámburo could be impeccable in his professionalism. Many of his fellow singers viewed him as a warm and gracious colleague. Others, however, saw him as a mentally unbalanced individual whose odd behavior made him a bad risk. By the 1890s, he had become unemployable in Europe and sought refuge in the Americas. Despite his earlier vow that he would never sing in the U.S. again (unfavorable New York reviews caused him to renege on a contract), Arámburo arranged a concert tour of the West Coast. The tour failed, and the 59-year-old tenor made his way back to Milan.
About a decade later, it was reported that Arámburo, now destitute, was working as a doorman at the Teatro Solís, the site of earlier triumphs. Friends who learned of his plight, helped the elderly tenor set up a vocal studio which provided him with much needed income. Arámburo spent his remaining years in Montevideo, dying there on September 16, 1912 at the age of 74.
The recordings of Antonio Arámburo, long thought to be apocryphal, were discovered in recent years. Made around 1901 for his own label, Compañía de Impresiones Fonográficas Antonio Arámburo, the venture was a commercial failure. These recordings show that the 63-year-old tenor’s voice was largely intact and similar in timbre to the baritone Mattia Battistini. Interestingly, the cylinders seem to have been recorded at quite a distance (the voice isn’t as present as in other recordings of this period), giving a great deal of room echo to the sound. Despite the imperfect sound, these rare cylinders provide a glimpse into the art of one of the earliest born tenors to have left his voice behind on recordings. Here, Arámburo sings an Italian version of The Flower Song (Il fior che avevi a me tu dato) from Bizet's Carmen.
