The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art - 39th Annual Florida Watercolor Society Exhibition
The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art opened January 22, 2002 on the Tarpon Springs Campus of St. Petersburg College. The Museum's 20th century collection is made up of art from Abraham Rattner's estate donated by Allen and Isabelle Leepa and a large donation made by the Tampa Museum of Art in 1997. The Museum is filled with Rattner's retrospective works: lithographs, tapestries, sculptures, paintings and stained glass. It is sure to be the largest assemblage of Rattner's work in the world as efforts continue to be made to reclaim Rattner works from other venues. The 6,000-piece collection also contains works by Esther Gentle, Rattner's second wife, who was a printmaker, sculptor and painter and Allen Leepa, himself, an artist, educator and author. Works by Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Marc Chagall, Auguste Herbin, Georges Rouault, Hans Hofmann and Max Ernst are part of the collection. Rattner considered many of them, from the Paris days of the 1920s and 1930s, to be his friends as well as contemporaries. A group of first-run posters from 20th century Paris exhibitions and Rattner's archival materials -- personal items including poetry, diaries and letters -- are also part of the collection. Of particular interest is Rattner's correspondence with noted author Henry Miller. The Museum was designed by the award-winning architect E.C. Hoffman Jr. and built by Creative Contractors, Inc. The hi-tech interior work was crafted by Creative Machines, Inc. The 53,000 square-foot building simulates the bow of a ship -- a post modernist nod towards Tarpon Springs' fishing and sponging communities. The Museum complex is actually comprised of three buildings in one -- the Museum, the Ellis Foundation Art Education Center and the Michael M. Bennett Library -- designed in such a way that the buildings appear as if they were thrust together. Hoffman Architects, PA was awarded the 2002 H. Dean Rowe Award of Design Excellence by the Tampa Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for the design of the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art.

Master of the One-Stroke Dragon painting technique, contemporary Japanese artist Keisuke Teshima returns to the U.S. for a special performance at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art near the St. Petersburg College Tarpon Springs Campus. A Memorial Tribute: Volf Roitman, from MADI to the LUDIC Revolution

This retrospective exhibition is being held as a memorial tribute to recognize the 60-year career of Volf Roitman as an internationally known visual artist. Mr. Roitman, who lived on the west coast of Florida for the past twelve years, passed away on April 25 after a brief illness. Over his long career Roitman consistently worked in a style of geometric abstraction called MADI, while focusing on the infinite possibilities of playful expression, referred to as the LUDIC revolution. A citizen of the world, Roitman was born in Uruguay, grew up in Argentina, moved to Paris, France in his twenties, and also lived in Spain and Ireland. Roitman is credited with being instrumental in disseminating the MADI style across four continents and has been included in over 150 solo and group exhibitions around the world.
Volf Roitman first exhibited at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in 2003, along with French artist Bo Breguet, in the Heart and Mind exhibition, and in 2006 he assisted in organizing an homage show to MADI's founder Carmello Arden Quin along with a showing of his kinetic work.
The current exhibition includes early works on paper, paper collages, contour paintings, metal sculpture, kinetic sculpture, banners, illuminated wall pieces and architectural projects. Concurrent memorial exhibitions are being held at the Frost Art Museum at Florida International University in Miami and at the University of Florence in Florence, Italy.
Volf Roitman will be remembered for his passionate creative spirit as a sculptor, painter, poet, novelist, prize-winning dramatist, cineaste and ludico trickster. In a biographic statement he prepared for this show, Roitman stated, Throughout my career, I have considered play, fun, humor, and joy to be very serious matters indeed! Those qualities will now continue to live on in the artwork we celebrate in this exhibition.

39th Annual Florida Watercolor Society Exhibition

Currently on display is the 39th Annual Florida Watercolor Society Exhibition. The show is juried by water media artist Carrie Burns Brown of the National Watercolor Society. The exhibition includes 100 artworks selected from more than 650 entries from artists throughout Florida.
The Florida Watercolor Society is one of the largest and finest watercolor societies in the United States. The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art is honored to exhibit this statewide show, having hosted the 34th Annual Exhibition in 2005. The exhibition is part of an annual conference that will be held at Innisbrook Resort.

The Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art will open Sculpture in Motion: Lin Emery, A Retrospective, on Sunday, Nov. 21, and will remain on view through January 30.
This exhibition is a 60-year retrospective of the acclaimed New Orleans kinetic sculptor Lin Emery and includes early static pieces; experiments in movement with magnets; motors and sounds; and large outdoor sculptures that capture the natural energy of the wind while commanding the landscape.
Emery's innovative works are featured in major museums, public art collections and in award-winning international sculpture competitions around the world.

Artblend Gallery Theodosia A.G. Tamborlane
Theodosia A.G. Tamborlane is a full time artist residing in Dunedin, Florida where she operates her studio. Before moving to Florida, Theo lived and worked in NJ as an attorney and studied at the Art Students League and the School of Visual Arts in New York City, NY. She teaches at the Leepa-Rattner Museum at St. Petersburg College in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Since 2008 her paintings have been in over 100 solo and group exhibitions in New York City, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida. Her prize winning paintings are in private and public collections in the United States, Japan and the Netherlands. From 2015 to 2017, she placed 110 paintings with six Hospital Foundations in NJ. Theo creates thematic paintings in series. “Ideas in Abstraction 2008-2013″ presented 85 paintings from ten series at NYC Partners International, Inc. In 2015, “Five Seasons,” was exhibited at the National Corporate Headquarters of Johnson and Johnson. In 2016 her “City Scapes” series was introduced and in 2017 new “Cast Shadows were created. Her paintings combine gestural movements with geometric forms in a deliberative yet free spirited process. Multiple colors move through each painting, taking the viewer along paths to visions both expected and unexpected. As you view Theo’s paintings, their images will evoke your own.

The Leepa-Rattner Museum of art will host a two-day summer Artists Market in the cool surroundings of LRMA's award-winning building designed by area architect Ed Hoffman, Jr. Over 30 local artists using a wide variety of media will display and sell their artwork in support of the museum and Isabelle's Museum Store.
The Artists Market will be held on Saturday, August 13th from 10 a.m. -- 5 p.m. and Sunday, August 14th from 1-5 p.m. and admission is free. Food and refreshments will be for sale. Shoppers are treated to live piano music.
