In deze oorspronkelijke 14de-eeuwse woning krijg je een goed beeld van hoe de Pilgrim Fathers in Leiden hebben geleefd. Tevens vind je hier de geschiedenis van hun Leidse periode (1608-1620). In 1620 vertrokken zij vanaf het Rapenburg via Delfshaven en Southampton naar Amerika om naar later bleek een nieuwe staat te stichten.

In the nearby town of Leiden — the last home in the Old World of the pilgrims before they sailed the Mayflower to the New World — I stumbled upon a group of pipe organ aficionados experiencing the organ in Leiden’s big church. Leiden merupakan salah satu kota di Belanda yang memiliki banyak museum yang letak dari museum satu tidak jauh dengan museum lainnya, dapat dikunjungi hanya dengan berjalan kaki.
Terdapat 13 museum di kota ini. Aku dan Mark akan mengajak kalian semua untuk mengetahui beberapa dari museum tersebut.
1. Museum antropologi Volkenkunde.
Disana kita bisa melihat banyak sekali sejarah dari kebudayaan-kebudayaan dari seluruh dunia. Namun, karena keterbatasan durasi video, aku dan Mark hanya bisa merekam budaya dari Indonesia saja :) Kebetulan ada exhibition Bali: Welcome to Paradise loh! Menarik banget ..
2. Museum sejarah ilmiah Boerhaave.
Di museum ini, kita diajak untuk melihat sejarah ilmiah dan fokusnya pada kontribusi Belanda dan Leiden. Lumayan guys alat alat original dari ilmuwan zaman dulu sampai saat ini terkait astronomi, medis dll yang terkenal.
3. Rijks Museum Van Oud Heden.
Ini favoritku guys, karena aku benar benar takjub sama museumnya. Di museum ini, kita bisa melihat secara langsung bagaimana kebudayaan dan kehidupan orang Mesir, Yunani, dan Romawi kuno pada abad Sebelum Masehi/ B.C/ V.Chr (sebelum Nabi Isa a.s dilahirkan). Banyak sekali benda-beda original atau asli yang disimpan di museum ini.

Thanksgiving kopie van bevrijdingsfeest Leiden
Thanksgiving and the resulting black friday are of Dutch origin. Refugees from England saw how the people of Leiden celebrated each year exuberantly that they had been relieved of the occupiers, the Spaniards. These asylumseekers, they called themselves Pilgrims, took that party to America, now exactly 400 years ago. The jubilee festivities for this started yesterday in England, the Netherlands and the United States. Director Jeremy Bangs of the Pilgrim Museum in Leiden explains how Thanksgiving started.
Thanksgiving en het daaruit voortvloeiende black friday zijn van Nederlandse oorsprong. Vluchtelingen uit Engeland zagen hoe de inwoners van Leiden elk jaar uitbundig vierden dat ze waren verlost van de bezetters, de Spanjaarden. Dat feest namen deze asielzoekers, ze noemden zich Pilgrims, mee naar Amerika, nu precies 400 jaar geleden. De jubileumfestiviteiten hiervoor zijn in Engeland, Nederland en de Verenigde Staten begonnen.
Directeur Jeremy Bangs van het Pilgrimmuseum in Leiden legt uit hoe het feest is ontstaan.

Leiden inBeeld: Samen werken aan een betere bereikbaarheid
Vanmiddag onthulden wethouder Robert Strijk en Paul Spendel, student Hout en Meubel een van de vier campagneborden van Leiden Bereikbaar. Hiermee vraagt Leiden aandacht voor een betere bereikbaarheid van de stad. De ROC-leerlingen werkten mee aan het maken van de borden in het kader van Move Your Skills. Hun werk is nu goed te zien als je Leiden in- of uitrijdt.
Robert Strijk, wethouder Verkeer en Vervoer: De borden staan op vier belangrijke invalswegen: Plesmanlaan, Churchillaan, Willem de Zwijgerlaan en Lammenschansweg. Hier komt dagelijks veel verkeer de stad in en uit. Het werk van de leerlingen is dus goed zichtbaar!
De borden zijn gemaakt en geïnstalleerd door bordenfabrikant ESBI. De leerlingen van Hout en Meubel hebben de borden uitgezaagd. Op elk bord is een ander silhouet van een vervoersmiddel te zien: fiets, auto, bus en de benenwagen. De leerlingen van Hout en Meubel zijn enthousiast over de samenwerking. Paul Spendel: Ik vind het leuk dat we ons werk nu terug zien in de stad. Ik hoop dat het veel mensen op zal vallen!
De gemeente Leiden bereidt de projecten die de bereikbaarheid van de stad verbeteren nu voor. Zodra de projecten in uitvoering gaan worden de campagneborden gebruikt als bouwborden waarop je kan zien wanneer de projecten starten en af zijn.

Visit Leiden and enjoy the many waterways, churches, bridges, windmills and churches. Walk by St Peters Church around which John Robinson and his pilgrims settled in 1620 and from which part of the congregation left Leiden to Delftshaven and sailed to England to travel on the Mayfair to America. Visit the oldest building of the University of Leiden built in 1574 and enjoy the botanical gardens. Walk by the Vissersmarkt which leads you to the fort of Leiden where you will find a stunning view of the city.

Mayflower 400 Leiden
In 2020 the United States, England and the Netherlands are commemorating that 400 years ago a group of English religious refugees, after twelve years of voluntary exile in Leiden, left for North America where they founded Plymouth Colony. The influence of this event has assumed mythical proportions over time. Although not the first or most successful settlers, these English-speaking Protestants have gone down in history under the name Pilgrims as founders of America. During the international commemoration of 2020 the Pilgrim story will be retold and examined from all sorts of perspectives.

We meet John Westerbaan, Siebe Koopman, Joan Klaassens, Dolf Hantelmann, Henry Woudstra en Joe Brand, who all have a special connection with the market. Kathryn Davies introduces the Cantos Music Foundation in Calgary. Its collection has evolved to a massive group of keyboard instrument, both acoustic and electronic. The National Music Centre's mandate is to promote the love, sharing and understanding of music through a wide variety of programs for all ages. Next to this, The National Music Centre offers workshops, lectures and performances regularly to keep the collection alive.
In Regina, Sasketchewan we meet Tim van Duyvendijk, whose parents emigrated from the Netherlands to Canada in 1953. In 2005, Tim and his wife moved to Regina to start their business 'United Flower Growers'. They buy plants from Holland and work together with other Dutch growers. This has the business made strong and has made the Dutch tradition of growing plants to continue on in Canada.
At the Banff Rockie Awards we interview Yvette Alberdingk Thijm, who has won an Award of Excellence in Media Campaigns for Social Good. Yvette is the Executive Producer of a Human Rights organization called Witness. They help human rights advocates use video to tell their stories and provoke change. Yvette explains how lobbying with video increases the effect. What a difference to a file piling on your desk! Uniek nieuw filmmateriaal Leiden 1938
Prachtige voorloorlogse, zomerse filmbeelden van Leiden gemaakt door een Amerikaanse toerist in 1938, die zijn opgeduikeld in een privé-collectie. In de VS is Leiden natuurlijk bekend als toevluchtsoord van de Pilgrim Fathers / Founding Fathers. Niemand kon toen bedenken dat twee jaar later de nazi's Nederland zouden bezetten.
