Yangon City in Myanmar (Burma)
Website :
Yangon which is formerly known as Rangoon, is the largest city in Myanmar (Burma)) with a population of 4,082,000 (in 2005). The city located at the confluence of Yangon and Bago River, away 30 km from the Gulf of Martaban.
In November 2005, the capital city moved from Yangon to Naypyidaw in Mandalay province. Naypyidaw officially became the new capital of Myanmar since March 26th, 2006.
Compared to other major cities in Southeast Asia, Yangon is relatively underdeveloped. The construction is largely developing due to foreign investment from China and Singapore. Many commercial buildings and houses have been built in the city center. Yangon is the place which has the most colonial buildings in East Asia today. The government office in the building was built in colonial time (such as Myanmar Supreme Court, City Hall, Bogyoke Market and the General Hospital are being planned reinforcement upgrade.

MYANMAR: EXPLORING the scenic STREET MARKETS in YANGON
#VicStefanu
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit the fascinating country of Myanmar (Burma) in Southeast Asia and let's go to Yangon, the country's largest city. Early in the morning, we will visit a street market close to the city's large port, very iconic images here. Yangon (formerly known as Rangoon) is the largest city in Myanmar (formerly Burma). A mix of British colonial architecture, modern high-rises and gilded Buddhist pagodas define its skyline. Its famed Shwedagon Paya, a huge, shimmering pagoda complex, draws thousands of pilgrims annually. The city's other notable religious sites include the Botataung and Sule pagodas, both housing Buddhist relics.
Myanmar (formerly Burma) is a Southeast Asian nation of more than 100 ethnic groups, bordering India, Bangladesh, China, Laos and Thailand. Yangon (formerly Rangoon), the country's largest city, is home to bustling markets, numerous parks and lakes, and the towering, gilded Shwedagon Pagoda, which contains Buddhist relics and dates to the 6th century.

Myanmar Sleeper Train from Mandalay to Yangon
Follow Us as we share with you a highlight of our Myanmar adventure - taking the sleeper train operated by Myanmar Railways!
Upon checking out of our transit hotel, Hotel Marvel, we proceeded to Platform 1 at the Mandalay train station just below our hotel. The friendly hotel bellboy was nice enough to help porter our bags to the platform. Really appreciate that warm gesture.
Our journey on Sleeper Train Number 4 to Yangon from Mandalay took us about 18 hours. The normal duration was about 16 hours. However, the train we took was delayed by about 2 hours.
We booked ourselves 2 bunk beds in the sleeper cabin with the assistance of a local tour agency. We made a special request for the agency to help us secure the one and only sleeper cabin with 2 bunk beds, for the convenience of vlogging. (The rest of the sleeper cabins have 4 bunk beds.)
The journey en-route was an interesting, albeit a rather bumpy one. We were treated with many scenes of country life in Myanmar. Farmers ploughing their plots with the aid of water buffalos, children playing in the river, locals looking forlorn as they sat at the train station waiting for their loved ones perhaps, enterprising locals peddling food and other necessities as our train made pit-stops at various stations en-route, and so much more!
It was all in all an interesting journey, which helped shed some light on the way of life in the countryside of this wonderful country. Though tiring, we enjoyed the train ride very much.
Would you consider getting on board a train operated by Myanmar Railways as your preferred mode of commute across the country? Let us know what you think in the comments section below! :D
Yangon in Myanmar (Burma): Shwedagon Pagoda, Kandawgyi Lake & park, street markets and Myanmar food
One day in Yangon Myanmar is just enough to visit the amazing Shwedagon Pagoda and its many surrounding temples which is a must see for anyone visiting Yangon. At night the Shwedagon Pagoda is lit up.
Before visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda (not to be confused with Shwegadon which is the name of a place close to Mandalay further south in Burma) I spent the morning wandering around a typical Myanmar street market watching the poeple of Myanmar go about their daily lives and looking at all the amazing fresh fruit, veg and fish for sale. It's thirsty work so I head to the Kandawgyi Lake & Park which is a beautiful lush green area in the middle of Yangon with lots of cafes and restuarants, in the area of the Karaweik which is a replica of a clasically styled Royal Barge.
Across the lake you can see the Shwedagon Pagoda, and so after an amazing strawberry smoothie I make my way to the Pagoda for the highlight of my first day in Yangon Myanmar.
Lunch today was at the Love Boat, which I chose at random in one of the malls, and it was absolutely delicious!

Foreigners in MYANMAR - Hot, CHAOTIC Adventure in YANGON
This was a hot, chaotic, and FUN day! We took a ride on the old and rough Yangon circular train around the outskirts and more rural areas of Yangon, Myanmar. From the central station in downtown Yangon, we were able to board the train for 200 Kyat ($0.13 USD) and ride among Burmese commuters for the afternoon and evening. This was such an interesting way to get a glimpse of local life, and we had lots of fun interactions throughout the journey!
