Kasi - Varanasi - city - morning rounds..
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, on the Ganges, is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga Shiva temples in Varanasi
According to Hindu mythology, Varanasi was founded by Shiva,[10] one of three principal deities along with Brahma and Vishnu. During a fight between Brahma and Shiva, one of Brahma's five heads was torn off by Shiva. As was the custom, the victor carried the slain adversary’s head in his hand and let it hang down from his hand as an act of ignominy, and a sign of his own bravery. A bridle was also put into the mouth. Shiva thus dishonored Brahma's head, and kept it with him at all times. When he came to the city of Varanasi in this state, the hanging head of Brahma dropped from Shiva's hand and disappeared in the ground. Varanasi is therefore considered an extremely holy site.[11]
The Pandavas, the protagonists of the Hindu epic Mahabharata, are said to have visited the city in search of Shiva to atone for their sin of fratricide and Brāhmanahatya that they had committed during the climactic Kurukshetra War.[12] It is regarded as one of seven holy cities (Sapta Puri) which can provide Moksha; Ayodhya, Mathura, Haridwar, Kashi, Kanchi, Avanti, and Dvārakā are the seven cities known as the givers of liberation.
Varanasi has been a cultural centre of North India for several thousand years,[citation needed] and is closely associated with the Ganges. Hindus believe that death in the city will bring salvation, making it a major centre for pilgrimage. The city is known worldwide for its many ghats, embankments made in steps of stone slabs along the river bank where pilgrims perform ritual ablutions. Of particular note are the Dashashwamedh Ghat, the Panchganga Ghat, the Manikarnika Ghat and the Harishchandra Ghat, the last two being where Hindus cremate their dead and the Hindu genealogy registers at Varanasi are kept here.
Chennai shivalaya is the tour arrange company in chennai for shiva devotees and shiva nadiyar kuzu/sangh. Easy travel, Great Dharshan, safe for elders and old age peoples. Kasi, kedarnath, Badrinath, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Ramshwaram, and 12 jothilingas, More than 500 successful tours were completed. for more details call 09444272326.

Sadhguru on The Legend of Kashi Part 1
#Sadhguru on the Legend of Kashi - Part 1
#Kashi #Varanasi #Sadhguru
Kashi, “the City of Light” is said to be more than 15,000 years old – the oldest inhabited city in the world. Home to 33 million gods and goddesses, this magnificent city was the beloved abode of Adiyogi Shiva and his wife Parvati, soon after their marriage. The Adiyogi himself established a powerful mandala (a sacred circular geometric pattern) of the city, by consecrating 108 shrines with unique qualities in a certain pattern – which continues to live even today.
In a series of talks, and a walk around the ancient city with Prasoon Joshi – noted lyricist and scriptwriter – Sadhguru elaborates on the science and geometry behind the layout of the city, the rich mythology of the land, and how despite invasions, Kashi has retained its glory and power, drawing millions of people from all over the world every year.
Sadhguru : Mysticism means exploring dimensions that are not
yet in your understanding or perception. To explore
those dimensions together, there are various types
of rituals, which are beautiful, but if not conducted
with absolute integrity, they can easily become
exploitative. Ritual means not just doing pooja. This
used to be a land with complex and phenomenal
rituals, but due to lack of integrity and misuse, these
rituals largely got wiped out.
For example, Kashi is the oldest living city on the
planet. Mark Twain said, “Benares is older than
history, older than tradition, older even than legend,
and looks twice as old as all of them put together.”
Even Shiva, the Adiyogi, got so enamored with this
city that he did not want to leave it anymore. Earlier,
he used to live at Kailash and the surrounding region,
but then he married a princess. She needed better
accommodation. So he came down to Badrinath,
and built a small home there. But after some time,
he was dispossessed of his home.
Shiva and Parvati had settled in Badrinath because
of its hot spring. Their small dwelling was at about
10,800 feet above mean sea level, so the climate was
cold. One day, they went to have bath in the hot
spring. When they came back, there was a beautiful
looking infant outside their doorstep. Parvati always
had a problem with the fact that she could not have
children because Shiva did not have human seeds,
and she being human could not contain his seed. Out
of her desperation, she created Ganapati, and from
what was left of six children, she made Karthikeya.
When she saw this wonderful baby at their doorstep,
her maternal instincts took over and she went to
pick up the child. Shiva said, ‘”Wait. Don’t touch
this baby. An infant that lands up at nearly 11,000
feet MSL all by himself is not a good infant. There is
nobody around; no footprints of the parents in the
snow. Why does this fellow land up at our doorstep
by himself? Just throw him away.” Parvati said,
“How can you say this? This is the most beautiful
baby I have ever seen!” And she took the baby into
the house. The next day, after coming back from
their bath, the baby had bolted the door from inside
and did not let these two people in. Parvati said,
“How can the baby bolt the door?” If a baby can land
up at 11,000 feet, the damn baby can do anything.
Shiva said, “Well, we will have to vacate the place.
Let’s move on.” Parvati said, “But this is our house.”
“It may have been our house, but since we let the
wrong people in, it is not ours anymore. Let’s go.”
They moved to Kantisarovar, which is at 12,700 feet.
This baby who locked himself inside and
dispossessed Shiva of his home was Vishnu, who
thought, “What does it matter for an ascetic yogi if
he is here or there? It is all the same for Shiva, but
for me it matters. I want to be here.” Shiva knew
that, and that is why they moved to Kantisarovar,
close to Kedar. Later on, one winter got bad, even at
Kantisarovar. From Kailash, he had come down to
Manasarovar, then moved to Badrinath, and later on
to Kedarnath – still the princess complained of the
cold and the desolation of the place.
Shiva decided that in winter, they would move to
Kashi. Who would have thought someone could
plan such a fabulous city 12,000–15,000 years ago.
It was a most fantastic plan – layers and layers of
urban development. The highest level of talent
in spirituality, science, mathematics, music, and
astronomy all gathered in one place. It became
the city of learning and of dispensing knowledge.
Shiva enjoyed the intellectual vigor, the music,
the company of people, and the way the city was
designed. He fell in love with Kashi and did not
want to leave anymore.

After this, we walked DEEP into another lane and found a MALAI milk cream spiced with saffron. It was very delicious, frothy, creamy, and sweet.
Next up, we went for another milk based street food in India, the LASSI. It was quite sweet as well and was served with a ton of pistachio! After finishing our delicious Indian breakfast street food in Varanasi, we went for a HUGE Indian lunch at a famous Indian restaurant in Varanasi. The Indian recipes here were absolutely delicious. There were some baked dumplings that were super unique, you’ll have to watch the street food vlog to find out why, but they were definitely worth coming for. India - Varanasi: City of Gods
For 3000 years people have worshiped on the shores of the Ganges at Varanasi.
So what kind of place is it and how does it make one feel to be in one of the most holy cities in the world? This short film considers just that by showing the city as it wakes and as it goes to sleep.
Varanasi is not a city for the beginner traveller. There are many dangers to being in such a place, both physically and spiritually. While we were there we unwittingly saw the results of a murder, were followed and threatened by a local targeting tourists, eyed up by countless armed police and got into some heated arguments with the local Tuk Tuk drivers who attempted to rip us off. For us, having travelled for so long, this was taken all in our stride. The other dangers in Varanasi appear to be spiritual. The entire place is full of European Yogic converts who live in Ashrams up and down the banks. That you could lose yourself here was for me the real danger I sought to avoid.
There is a definite sense of this being a holy city. It is filthy and downtrodden like many Indian cities, but its immense ancientness is captivating. I have tried to show some of that in this film. The ceremony shown at the end of the film is known as the Varanasi Dashashwamedh Ghat Agni Pooja Ceremony and practiced daily in honour of the gods:
Dashashwamedh Ghat is located close to Vishwanath Temple, and is
probably the most spectacular ghat. Two Hindu mythologies are
associated with it: According to one, Lord Brahma created it to
welcome Lord Shiva. According to another, Lord Brahma sacrificed ten
horses in a yajna here. A group of priests daily perform in the
evening at this ghat Agni Pooja (Worship to Fire) wherein a
dedication is made to Lord Shiva, River Ganga, Surya (Sun), Agni
(Fire), and the whole universe.
VARANASI STREET FOOD | Benaras Travel Vlog #3
While in Varanasi, I ate some amazing food and figured I should make a whole video about it because the street food in Varanasi is quite unique! Because I didn’t really plan to do this video, it’s just a montage of random clips but I hope you enjoy watching it nonetheless. :)

Journey of Holy City Kashi (Banaras)
Varanasi is among the oldest continuously lived in cities in the world. Also known as Benares, Banaras, or Kashi, it is the sacred of all Indian pilgrim cities. Hindus believe Varanasi was estd by Lord Shiva, & archeological finding have revealed that Vedic people lived here in the 11th or 12th century BCE. Parshva, the 23rd Jain Tirthankara is also supposed to have lived here around 8th century BC. Gautama Buddha started Buddhism here in 528 BCE, when he gave his first preaching at Sarnath, just 10 km away. In 8th century, Adi Shankara declare Lord Shiva as the official deity of the city.

World's BEST Chaat in Banaras - टमाटर की चाट | बनारस की ठंडाई | मलाई पूरी | Indian Street Food
Banaras is known as the hub of Indian street food, and if you're in Banaras your trip is incomplete if you haven't visited Kaashi Chaat Bhandar. This iconic place is another reason why people make a trip down to Banaras. The Tamatar ki Chaat served here is made with tomatoes, potatoes, boiled white peas, sugar syrup, ghee, some spices and is topped with crunchy namakpara. This dish is a celebration of flavours; one bite and you'll know what we're talking about. This chaat is exclusive to Banaras. One can also try the Chura Matar which is basically peas and beaten rice mixed together with some spices and of course ghee. Another popular dish is the Dahi Puri, that is golgappe filled with chana, yoghurt, tomato chutney and green chutney, topped with some namakpara. Kaashi Chaat Bhandar has a lot to offer, so if you're a picky eater trust us you will find something you'll like. Next we had the palak patta chaat or spinach leaves that are coated in besan and deep fried. This is then topped with some yoghurt, chutneys and spices.
One of the most popular things in Banaras os Thandai and Bhaang, so we made our way to Baba Thandai. Thandai is cold milk mixed with saffron, dry fruits, a few spices and sugar. The thick cold milk infused with the flavours of saffron and cardamom is very refreshing at any time of the day.
We then went to a shop called Rasvanti which is literally hidden in the streets of Banaras. This sweet shop has a wide variety of sweets. We tried the Malai Gilori and Rasvanti. Both these sweets have a unique flavour and texture. So if you are in Banaras, look for Rasvanti and enjoy the sweets!
Later we went for some more sweets at Shree Jee Sweets and Milk. We tried the Shrikhand which is sweet hung curd flavoured with cardamom and saffron. Another dish to try here is the rabri which is condensed milk topped with dry fruits and saffron. We then went on to have some Malaipuri.
Next, we went to Badal Thandai for some more Thandai. Unlike others we only tried the Bhaang-less ThandaI, but the most popular one has to be the one flavoured with Bhaang!

Banaras STREET FOOD Tour | BEST Street Food of India | India Food Tour
We started our journey with a beautiful boat ride and even managed to celebrate a birthday on board. These magical boat rides are part and parcel of a trip to Banaras. So if you find yourself on a holiday in Varanasi, just take a boat ride early morning and relax your senses.
We then went for a super delicious breakfast at Laxmi Chai Wala in he Chowk Area. This shop is around 80 years old is known for it's eye opening Chai and Breads. They serve Malai Toast, which a thick slice of bread that is toasted topped with a hefty layer of cream and sugar; we even tried the famous Cesarean Bread, popularly known as kambhal odha ke, which is a thick slice of bread toasted over coal that is slit in the middle and stuffed with a lot of butter. The moment you bite into this toast the butter just oozes out. These amazing breads are served with a kulhad chai, which is just the kind of tea you need in the morning.
We then tried Chhoti Kachori. It's a comparatively smaller Kachori than the ones we get in other parts of India, and is stuffed with spicy potatoes. This lovely little kachori is served with a topping of chana and green chutney. The flavour combination is absolutely scrumptious.
Later we went to Ram Bhandar for some Kachori- Sabji and Jalebi. The kachori here is more like Poori, which is served with Sabji of potatoes, chana and brinjal. Another type of Kachori served here is Chhoti Kachori stuffed with potatoes and topped with chana. You can taste the ghee in this one, which is what makes it so rich. We then packed few a jalebis and walked our way to a dahi wala. In Banaras, jalebis are traditionally enjoyed with some Dahi. The super sweet and hot jalebi goes perfect with the cold slightly sour flavour of dahi.
Us Dilliwalas are suckers for milk based sweets so how could we miss Shree Jee Sweets and Milk. We tried Mallaiyo, also known as Daulat ki Chaat here in Delhi. Here the sugar, saffron and cardamom is mixed with milk foam beforehand and served with a topping of pistachios. They even give Saffron Flavoured milk, which is just the right amount of sweetness. This shop has been serving its customers mallaiyo for 150 years, making it one of the oldest and probably the original mallaiyo shop in Banaras.
When in Banaras, Eat Paan. We had to visit a paan shop and we hit the jackpot when we discovered a 218 year old paan shop. This shop has been serving paan to generations of the same families, in fact the people running the shop have been running it for almost 4 generations now.
Banarasis love their sweets, so we had to visit one the ildest and most popular sweet shop in Banaras that is Shree Shree Ram Bhandar. We tried Magdal which is made with urad dal and has a very complicated and time consuming method of cooking it. They have been serving the Tiranga Barfi here, ever since India gained its independence in 1947. The speciality of this barfi is that the three different coloured layers of this barfi also have a different flavour, so you get three barfis in one.
Finally, we went to another iconic Lassi shop- The Blue Lassi Shop. We tried the Blueberry lassi which was also topped with cream and pistachios like any other lassi, but the flavour was to die for. The blueberry makes it supremely unique and delicious. One should definitely visit the Blue Lassi Shop for an amazing lassi experience.
