Shenyang, China - Liaoning Museum
Oh, what is going on!?
CHINATRIP「September 18th History Museum」Shenyang,Liaoning Province【中国 九・一八歴史博物館】
September 18th 1931 is a day that will never be forgotten by the Chinese people, as it was the beginning of the darkest period in China's modern history. On this day the Japanese army, which had been occupying part of Manchuria (northeastern China) since the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), allegedly bombed a bridge at a Japanese owned and operated railroad crossing. The Japanese then blamed the attack on Chinese rebels. This action, which is now referred to as the September 18th Incident (九一八事变) or the Manchurian Incident or the Mukden Incident (Mukden is the Manchu name for Shenyang), was used as a pretext for the Japanese army to begin its invasion of China.

Time to go back to Shenyang! Our day started in Panjin where we stayed the night after visiting Red Seabeach the previous day. We took the bus from Panjing to Shenyang, which cost 50 RMB per person and took about 2.5 hours.
Back in Shenyang we couldn't resist the opportunity to return to XiTa, the city's Koreatown, for lunch. We went for scrumptious gamjatang (감자탕), or pork bone soup. After lunch we went for a walk in the neighborhood, exploring the alleyways and even popping into a couple Korean shops. It was great to see the area during the day!
We next took a taxi to the palace in Shenyang. It's similar in style to the Forbidden City in Beijing but much smaller in scale. We spent about two hours there and felt like we'd explored every nook and cranny.
Afterwards we wandered around the streets surrounding the palace and came across ZhongJie, which is a new, extremely popular shopping district. There is great people watching to be had there!
Thank you for watching!!
See you in four days for our next upload!

We were so excited to visit northeast China for the first time! We flew into Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province, from Shanghai on a direct Spring Air flight. Instead of taking a taxi into the city, we opted to try public transportation. The urban tram to BaiTaHeLu Station cost just 2 RMB per person, but it was extremely slow. From there we had to walk about five minutes to the subway station of the same name. Shenyang has just two subway lines, so it's very easy system to navigate. We had to transfer once before arriving at our final destination, Shenyang Station. It took almost 1 hour and 30 minutes to get from the airport to Shenyang Station. Because the cost of living is relatively low, taxi meters start at just 8 RMB and public transport is slow, we would opt for a taxi the next time around.
We spent the day exploring downtown Shenyang on foot. We were fascinated by ZhongShan Square the home of an enormous Chairman Mao statue. We especially loved seeing the statue at night when so many different groups gathered in the square for aerobics, dancing, break dancing, badminton, and biking.
Another point of interest is TaiYuan, the underground shopping streets that run between ZhongShan Square and Shenyang Station. It's recently undergone major renovations that weren't completely done by the time we visited. But we think it'll be an awesome food and shopping destination once it's 100% finished. For anyone looking to get a manicure or pedicure, Glo recommends TaiYuan where she got a gel manicure for just 30 RMB!
For dinner we had Korean BBQ in XiTa, which is a Koreatown filled with Korean restaurants and shops. Given Shenyang's proximity to North Korea, the city and province as a whole have a reputation for excellent Korean food. We were not disappointed! This was definitely the best Korean food we've so far had in China! And it cost just 120 RMB for the entire dinner!
Lastly, we stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Zhongshan location. The room was comfortable, and the staff were helpful and spoke a bit of English. It's within walking distance of Shenyang Station, but it's a long walk (about 20 minutes).
Thank you for watching!
See you four days for our next upload!

2016 China Trip Day 3 ~ The Imperial Palace of Shenyang, Liaoning
The Mukden Palace or “Shenyang Gugong”, also known as the Shenyang Imperial Palace, was the former imperial palace of the early Manchu-led Qing dynasty in China. It was built in 1625 and the first three Qing emperors lived there from 1625 to 1644. Since the collapse of imperial rule in China, the palace has been converted to a museum that now lies in the center of Shenyang city, Liaoning province.

Calligraphy was a highly regarded art in China, though I am not trained in that field and could only respond to them due to their visceral impacts. Below are several pieces I found amazing, many for their sheer scales, and beauty of course.

Visiting Shenyang Financial Museum / 沈阳金融博物馆
Shenyang Financial Museum / 沈阳金融博物馆 used to be the headquarters for the defunct Frontier Bank, where the family of warlord Zhang Zuolin kept their secret financial stash.
Zhang seized the bank in the 1920s hoping to take a dominant position in politics, and also control the economic lifeline of northeast China. Today, the bank-turned-museum tells us the history of money in China – from the earliest dynasties to the present day – with rare artifacts. It traces the history of the currency, and even covers everything from counterfeiting to Internet finance.
