Beware of the Crocodile at the public local park in Islamorada, Florida Keys Library Beach
This is a great local hot spot! Family fun and barbeques and a great swimming hole on the canal near the Mangroves! In spite of the Crocodile that moved into the vicinity the summer of 2018, plenty of the people still brave the waters.. The locals aren't afraid too much of the Croc though because Crocodiles are generally afraid of you and stay away. Just the same, I don't think they are letting their children do much swimming there anymore.
When I was filming this, a lady sunning herself asked why I was doing so. I told her it was for my YouTube channel. She did not like that at all. She told me not to put it on YouTube because she did not want to share her nice little local spot with the tourists. She said this place will get overrun and crowded. I absolutely don't believe this at all!
In my opinion, it is doubtful that tourists with only 1 or 2 weeks vacation per year are going to spend their precious time at local watering hole where a croc is hanging out. Now, maybe the backpack tourists might but that's ok. I have never seen this place overcrowded. And I don't think that's gonna change anytime soon. Especially because of this measly video and this measly channel lol.

We asked if we could tag along and they said yes. The girls explored the beach and showed how amazing it is to witness the natural beauty of the mangroves of the Florida Keys. Islamorada Florida Hand Feeding Tarpon and Lemon Sharks : Ep.04
Guys Fishing Trip to the Keys
For the last year we have been planning a guys trip in the keys with some old buddies from Woodland, California. We were all heavily involved in scouting and really loved camping trips to the Sierras and the Pacific Coast. We really bonded as kids and made great lifelong friendships. Some of us had not seen each other in 20 years and we figured we were due for a reunion.
Our Surprise Visitor
Our first stop was Islamorada to feed the tarpon and have some fresh fish tacos at Robbie’s. We arrived around 4pm and found a great spot right by the water. You can literally see tarpon swimming around while you eat. We ordered some delicious mahi mahi fish tacos and while I was in the middle of devouring a delicious taco a guy came out of nowhere and just stared at us and then I realized who it was. It was our buddy Jimmy who had said he wouldn’t be able to make it this year. Well, apparently his plans had changed and he was in cahoots with our friends Logan and surprised us.
Hand Feeding the Tarpon
So we wrapped up our meal and then purchased a bucket of fish to feed the tarpon. These guys are big and they will jump out of the water and grab the fish right out of your hand. It’s pretty intimidating but they are harmless. You might get a scrap or two if the fish’s mouth catches your hand just right but that’s about it. We caught some great videos of the Tarpon jumping right out of the water and snatching the fish out of our hands.
First Time Seeing Lemon Sharks
I really enjoyed this place and it’s not far from Miami so two weeks later I returned to have some food and feed the tarpon. But this time it was dark and a school of lemon sharks had joined the feeding. Now I don’t recommend hand feeding these lemon sharks but you can still throw the fish in the water and watch these 5 to 6 foot beasts feed. I was really impressed with how gracefully they glided through the water. This was a first for me. I had never been this close to a lemon shark before. The extent of my shark encounters were limited to leopard sharks in San Diego during the fall at La Jolla Shores during breeding season.
Great food and a great family activity. Highly recommend it!
