United States Lightship 101, known as Portsmouth, was first stationed at Cape Charles, Virginia. Today she is at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum in Portsmouth, Virginia. Portsmouth never had a lightship station; however, when the vessel was dry docked there as a museum, she took on the pseudonym Portsmouth. A National Historic Landmark, she is one of a small number of surviving lightships.

The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame “Walk the Hall,” is a free pedestrian tour of several exhibits throughout Town Center that tell the story of the state’s rich sports history. “We will have our ‘Hall of Honor’ in Clark-Nexsen, bearing the names of our more than 300 inductees,” says Eddie Webb, President of the HOF. “Then you walk across the street to Columbus One and Two to see exhibits promoting Virginia’s greatest golfers and coaches, next over to the Armada Hoffler Tower for college champions, over to 249 Central Park Avenue for Virginians in national Halls of Fame and finally to the Westin Hotel for a photography exhibit called ‘The Year in Sports in Virginia’, that we are compiling with the Virginia News Photographers Association.’”
Nantucket Lightship For Sale
United States lightship Nantucket (LV-112), also known as Lightship No. 112, Nantucket, is a National Historic Landmark lightship that served at the Lightship Nantucket position. She was the last serving lightship and at time of its application as a landmark, one of only two capable of moving under their own power. She served as the lightship for such notable vessels as SS United States, RMS Queen Mary, and SS Normandie.
The ship, now docked in the Boston Harbor, was decommissioned by the U.S. Coast Guard in 1985.

The 4,000-square-foot, six bedroom ship comes equipped with six bedrooms, a library, stateroom, and a media room.

AMBROSE LIGHTSHIP
Built in Camden in 1907 for the US Lighthouse Service, the Ambrose first took her station off the coast of Sandy Hook in 1908 and maintained her position marking the entrance to New York harbor until 1932 when she was replaced by a newer vessel. Shifting between Relief Station and Scotland Station off the coast of New Jersey and Vineyard Sound off Massachusetts for the next 34 years, the Ambrose served the Lighthouse Service and the US Coast Guard for a total 59 years before she was deactivated on March 4th, 1966.
The venerable lightship was formally donated to the South Street Seaport Museum in 1968 and was deemed a National Historic Landmark in 1989 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The South Street Seaport Museum announced on her 100th birthday in 2007 that the Ambrose would receive an extensive overhaul and further restoration to keep her floating and in excellent condition as a museum ship.

Here is some history of the Lightship Columbia...
Commissioned in 1951, the Columbia was the fourth and final lightship stationed at the mouth of the Columbia River. Built by Rice Brothers Shipyard in Boothbay, Maine, the Columbia was launched with her sister-ship, the WLV-605. The new WLV-604 replaced the aging Columbia vessel No. 90, which had been in service on the Columbia River since 1939. The Columbia River lightships guided vessels across the Columbia River Bar and an area known as the Graveyard of the Pacific from 1892 until 1979. The Columbia was the final lightship to be decommissioned on the U.S. West coast. She was replaced by an automated navigational buoy soon after. The buoy has since been retired.
Because of its importance, the Coast Guard had a permanent 18 man crew stationed on board, consisting of 17 enlisted men and one Warrant Officer who served as ship's captain. Everything the crew needed had to be on board. In the winter, weeks of rough weather prevented any supplies from being delivered. Life on board the lightship was marked by long stretches of monotony and boredom intermixed with riding gale force storms. The crew of 17 men worked two to four week rotations, with ten men on duty at all times.
In 1983, the Columbia was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989 under the name Lightship WAL-604, Columbia. WLV-604 is now located at the Columbia River Maritime Museum, alongside the navigational buoy that replaced her in 1979.

The Maritime history of the United Kingdom involves events including shipping, ports, navigation, and seamen, as well as marine sciences, exploration, trade, and maritime themes in the arts from the creation of the kingdom of Great Britain as a united, sovereign state, on 1 May 1707 in accordance with the Treaty of Union, signed on 22 July 1706. Until the advent of air transport and the creation of the Channel Tunnel, marine transport was the only way of reaching the British Isles. For this reason, maritime trade and naval power have always had great importance.
Prior to the Acts of Union, 1707, the maritime history of the British Isles was largely dominated by that of England. (See Maritime history of England for more details.)

A lightvessel, or lightship, is a ship that acts as a lighthouse. They are used in waters that are too deep or otherwise unsuitable for lighthouse construction. Although some records exist of fire beacons being placed on ships in Roman times, the first modern lightvessel was off the Nore sandbank at the mouth of the River Thames in England, placed there by its inventor Robert Hamblin in 1734. The type has become largely obsolete; lighthouses replaced some stations as the construction techniques for lighthouses advanced, while large, automated buoys replaced others.
