Train Ride on Liliputbahn Prater Park Vienna Austria - Real Steamies and Diesels
The Prater Liliputbahn is a 381 mm (15 in) gauge light railway in Vienna, Austria. Opened in 1928, and extended in 1933, the railway operates primarily as a tourist attraction, but also provides transport links around the wider area of the Prater park, the amusement park (Wurstelprater), and the sports stadium. Originally steam-operated, the railway now uses a mixture of steam and diesel motive power. The railway can be reached by bus, tram, or metro from central Vienna, followed by a short walk, but following the extension of tram line 1, there is now a direct interchange with the Vienna tram network at the railway's Rotunda Station.
The two original 4-6-2 'Pacific' steam locomotives are still in operation, numbered 1 and 2.

Liliputbahn mit Lok Grete im Prater, Vienna, Austria
Fahrt mit der Dampflok Grete entlang der Prater Hauptallee zu den Stationen Rotunde und Ernst-Happel-Stadion und retour durch den Wald vorbei an den Lokschuppen zur Station Prater Hauptbahnhof.
Nach fast dreißig Jahren wieder mal eine Runde in den Mannerschnitten-Waggons der Liliputbahn zu drehen ist schon eine Mordstrummgaudi!
Im Hintergrund wird niemand abgestochen, das sind nur die Mädels in der Hochschaubahn.

Die Schwester der Liliputbahn im Prater, die Donauparkbahn, wurde als Ausstellungsbahn zur Wiener Internationalen Gartenschau (WIG) 1964 eröffnet. 4 Euro kostet die Rundfahrt, die ca. 20 Minuten dauert.
The sister of the Liliputbahn in the Prater, the Donauparkbahn, was opened as an exhibition railway to the Vienna International Garden Show (TIG) in 1964. 4 € costs the tour, which takes about 20 minutes.

In den Herbstferien besuchten wir im Rahmen eines Städtetrips nach Wien auch die rund 4 Kilometer lange Liliputbahn am dortigen Prater, wo an diesem Samstag eine der beiden Dampfloks (Da1) im Einsatz war (die andere Dampflok wurde zur gleichen Zeit auf einer Modellbahnmesse ausgestellt).
Hier also ein paar Eindrücke von diesem Tag, viel Spaß!
Liliputbahn im Wiener Prater am 1. Mai 2017
Am 1. Mai fahren die Loks der Liliputbahn im Prater mit traditionellem Maischmuck. Bei Schönwetter ist dieser Tag einer der frequenzstärksten Betriebstage der reizvollen 381mm Schmalspurbahn durch die Wiener Praterauen.
Am 1. Mai 2017 waren 4 Garnituren im 3-5-Minutenintervall mit folgenden Lokomotiven unterwegs:
Dampflok Da2 (Baujahr 1928), die rot-elfenbeinfarbige Diesellok D2 (Baujahr 1961 auf dem Untergestell der ehemaligen Dampflok Da3), die rosa Diesellok D3 (Baujahr 1964) mit der Manner-Garnitur und schließlich die gelbe Diesellok D4 (Baujahr 1967)

Liliputbahn Prater, Wien
Der Wiener Prater ist 6 km² grosser Parkanlage im 2. Wiener Gemeindebezirk, Leopoldstadt.
An der Nordwestspitze des Areals zwischen Donau und Donaukanal befindet sich der Vergnügungspark im Prater, der Wurstelprater.
Hier fährt seid 1824 ein Schienengebundenes Personentransportsystem. Anfänglich als Pferdetrambahn.
Die heutige Bahn geht auf den Der Praterunternehmer Ludwig Pretscher zurück welcher im Jahr 1928 eröffnet wurde. Zum Betrieb wurden 2 Typs Martens’sche Einheitsliliputlok von Krauss & Co., München gekauft. Im Jahr 1942 kam noch eine Dritte baugleiche Lok hinzu.
Die sehr schmale Spurweite von 15 Zoll (381 mm) wurde in England von Arthur Percival Heywood für Lokalbahnen und Industriebahnen propagiert. Die 3,9 km lange Strecke verläuft in einem Rundkurs zwischen Prater Hauptbahnhof und Station. Sie verläuft grösstenteils in Sichtweite der Hauptallee und die Gleise der beiden Fahrtrichtungen werden über die ganze Strecke als doppelspurig geführt.
Die Bahn verfügt über vier Stationen
Bei der Schlacht um Wien, wurde die Bahn fast vollständig zerstört wurde. Fast alle Gebäude der Liliputbahn brannten ab. Die drei Lokomotiven überstanden das Feuer, nicht so die hölzenen Wagen.
Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg wurden die Lokomotiven 1 und 3 durch die Paukerwerk in Wien Floridsdorf wieder betriebsfähig gemacht.
Seid 1950 war der jüdische Textilhändler Jakob Passweg alleiniger Besitzer der Liliputbahn.
DIe Dampfloks sind Martens’sche Einheitsliliputlok von Krauss-Maffei
Sie entsprechen etwa einer normalspurigen Pacific-Schnellzuglokomotive im Maßstab 1:3,33.
Die Lokomotiven ähneln den DR-Baureihen 01 bzw. 03, sind aber dennoch keinem bestimmten Vorbild nachgebaut, sondern eigenständige Konstruktionen.
Weltweit wurden 15 Stück dieser Lok durch Krauss-Maffei und 3 durch Krupp gebaut.
1958 hielt der Traktionswandel auch bei der Liliputbahn Einzug. Es wurde die erste Diesellok gekauft. Die Loh hat Äußerlich deutsche Diesellok V 80 zum Vorbild. Ist aber im Gegensatz zu dieser in Blau lackiert.
Als Besonderheit ist die Diesellok D2 zu erwähnen. Sie entstand 1962 durch Umbau der Dampflok Da3.
Die Diesellok D3 stammt aus dem Donaupark wo sie sich aufgrund der dort vorhandenen grossen Steigungen nicht bewährte.
Die Diesellok D4 wurde 1967 durch die Firma Tobisch gebaut. Sie besitzt ein konventionelles, vierachsiges Fahrgestell und einen 35 kW starken luftgekühlten Deutz 4-Zylinder-Dieselmotor.
Sie stammt die D3 auch aus dem Donaupark vo wo sie 1976 übernommen wurde.
Zusätzlich stehen am Wochenende auch noch zwei der Ursprünglichen Dampfloks zur Verfügung.
Als Personenwagen kommen 6-Teilige Gliederzüge zum Einsatz. Jede Zuggarnitur besteht aus sechs Wagen, die durch Jakobs-Drehgestelle fix miteinander verbunden sind.
Zusätzlich gibt es noch 4-Achsige Salonwagen und Verstärkungseinheiten.

Besuch der Liliputbahn im Wiener Prater am 11.05.2019.
Seit über 90 Jahren dreht sie schon auf schmaler Spur und zur Freude von groß und klein ihre Runden im Wurstelprater. Neben dem berühmten Riesenrad zählt die kleine Bahn zur einer der Hauptattraktionen im Wiener Prater.Sogar 2 Dampfloks aus der Anfangszeit der Bahn sind noch erhalten und werden an den Wochenenden eingesetzt.Aber die Zeit bleibt auch im Wiener Prater nicht stehen,so konnte die neuste Lok vor dem Salonwagen als bestellter Sonderzug beobachtet werden.Bei dieser Lok handelt es um eine sogenannte Wasserstofflok.
