The Lines of Torres Vedras
Some of the forts that were part of the lines of Torres Vedras. Fort da Boa Vista, forte Novo da Serra do Formoso, forte do Moinho Branco e reduto Novo da Costa Freire.
A historical episode occurred in October 16, 1810 when Marshal Massena recognized the lines of Torres Vedras next to the fort Novo da Serra do Formoso. Marshal Massena, receives a warning shot coming from this fort that struck the wall where Marshal Masséna protected himself and watched the position. It is said that the marshal took off his hat and bowed in respect and consideration for the quality of the marksman, and withdrew.

Forte de São Vicente Torres Vedras
O Forte de São Vicente de Torres Vedras localiza-se na cidade e Concelho de Torres Vedras, Distrito de Lisboa, em Portugal.
Erguido no cimo de um dos mais altos montes que cercam o vale onde se implanta a cidade, integrava as chamadas Linhas de Torres, um conjunto de fossos, trincheiras, traveses e posições de fogo, que remonta à época da Guerra Peninsular.
Iniciado em 1809, este forte constituía-se em um dos principais pontos defensivos das Linhas de Torres, com a função de defesa da estrada que unia Coimbra a Lisboa.
Encontra-se classificado como Imóvel de Interesse Público.

Viscount Wellington Defends Portugal from Napoleon with Trench Warfare
The Lines of Torres Vedras were lines of forts built in secrecy to defend Lisbon during the Peninsular War. Named after the nearby town of Torres Vedras, they were ordered by Arthur Wellesley, Viscount Wellington, constructed by Sir Richard Fletcher, 1st Baronet and his Portuguese workers between November 1809 and September 1810, and used to stop Masséna's 1810 offensive.

Linhas de Torres Vedras
Foi há duzentos anos que o general Wellington escolheu a região a norte de Lisboa para construir as Linhas de Torres Vedras, o sistema de fortificações que defendeu Portugal das tropas francesas. A região foi escolhida pelas condições naturais perfeitas: entre o Tejo e o Atlântico e com montes e vales fáceis de fortificar nos pontos elevados.
A propósito da comemoração do bicentenário da construção destas Linhas, um conjunto de seis autarquias, entre as quais Torres Vedras, propõe-se recuperar a memória e as Linhas, impulsionando a vida económica da região a partir deste rico património cultural.
