Williston: The North Dakota Oil Boom (Documentary)
This is a story about one of the biggest oil booms in American history and a small town forced to evolve into something it has never been before. In the five or so years since oil drilling began, Williston, North Dakota has been inundated with multinational corporations, controversial fracking technologies, job hungry Americans, and lots of lots of money. As the town and its people confront everything from crime waves to ecological disasters, one thing is clear - Williston will never be the same.

The Dakotas
South Dakota and North Dakota, two northern plains states in these United States, but they are not as plain as you might assume.
Once part of the mighty Dakota Territory, one of the last areas of the country Americans settled, they split up, and today there is a mild rivalry between the two. People get them mixed up, although in this video I’m going to explain how they are quite different, despite sharing part of a name.
But first, what do they have in common? Well, other than being irregularly-shaped rectangles.
Both are about the same size, although South Dakota is a bit bigger. There’s also not a big difference between the population of the two states, although South Dakota has more people. Historically, their populations have rarely been far apart, with North Dakota’s population even surpassing South Dakota’s a few times. Currently, North Dakota is growing at a faster rate. Both don’t have a metro area that even gets near half a million people, which is why Minneapolis-St. Paul is pretty influential over both.
Both states are considered part of the Midwest. Most of the two states are made up of mostly prairie, part of what’s known as The Great Plains. Both have mostly continental climates, and generally the further west you go in each state, the drier it gets. For example, the annual precipitation in Fargo, North Dakota is 22.6 inches, while it’s 14.4 inches out west in Williston. It’s 26.3 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, while it’s 16.3 out west in Rapid City.
While both have four seasons, both have fairly mild summers and long, extremely cold winters. North Dakota does get a little colder in the winter being further north.
The Missouri River is the major river that runs through both states. Both are about as far from the ocean as you can get.
West of the Missouri River in both states, the land becomes much more rugged, with badlands and buttes.
Both are mostly rural states with lots of agriculture.
Residents of both states are younger, on average, than most of the country. (36.8 SD, 35 ND). Residents of both also tend to be Christian. 77% in North Dakota and 79% in South Dakota identify as such. And most residents in both are of European descent. The largest ethnic minority in both states today is American Indian.
Both states lean conservative politically, and reliably have voted for the Republican Party since the 1960s.
So how about those differences?
The poverty rate is lower in North Dakota (10.3%-13%). However, crime is a little lower in South Dakota. More North Dakota residents have college degrees. And the cost of living is generally higher in North Dakota.

More information about the video content bellow:
1. Was North Dakota the 39th or 40th state to enter the Union? It’s either the 39th or the 40th state—no one’s sure. Once upon a time, the two Dakotas were joined in the Dakota Territory. Due to various political squabbles, they entered into the Union as two separate states, North and South Dakota. But President Benjamin Harrison purposely made it impossible to tell which state came into the Union first, shuffling the papers and signing them without looking so that not even he would know. However, because of the order of the alphabet, North Dakota is generally listed as the 39th.
2. It could have been half Canadian. The British ceded almost half of the territory that became the state of North Dakota in the Treaty of 1818. The treaty resolved previous border disputes between Britain and the United States by officially making the 49th parallel the line between the States and British North America, and giving America a big chunk of the territory that would become North Dakota.
3. No matter how small a podunk, each incorporated area in North Dakota is officially a city. The state simply can’t be bothered with differentiating between towns, villages, boroughs, hamlets or any other type of geopolitical minutiae.
4. In 1881, a North Dakotan named David Henderson Houston filed a patent on the first roll film camera, which had actually been invented by his brother Peter. Eight years later he sold the patent to George Eastman, and also provided a suggestion for the name—he wanted to go with Nodak, an abbreviation of No[rth] Dak[ota], but Eastman decided to change the initial “N” to a “K,” and the rest is photographic history.
5. Bismarck is the capital of the U.S. state of North Dakota. In 2015, Forbes magazine ranked Bismarck as the seventh fastest-growing small city in the United States. In 1872 European Americans founded a settlement at what was then called Missouri Crossing, so named because the Lewis and Clark Expedition crossed the river there on their exploration of the Louisiana Purchase in 1804-1806. Later the new town was called Edwinton, but In 1873, the Northern Pacific Railway renamed the city as Bismarck, in honor of German chancellor Otto von Bismarck.
6. It’s the host of North America’s largest Scandinavian festival. Tens of thousands of people attend Norsk Høstfest in Minot, North Dakota every year to celebrate the state’s Nordic heritage. Immigrants from Nordic countries like Sweden, Iceland, and Denmark flocked to North Dakota in the late 19th century, and in 1914, Norwegian immigrants and their descendants owned one-fifth of all the land in North Dakota. Today roughly 47% of North Dakotans are of German descent, followed by Norwegian, Irish, Swedish and Russian, totaling another 47%. Less than 4% are actual Englishmen.
7. North Dakota has the most churches per capita of any state. Additionally, North Dakota has the highest percentage of church-going population of any state. 87% say they believe in God, and 66% go to church at least once or twice a week.

Oldest Pyramid On Earth Found In North Dakota?

Fort Ransom is a small place within the state of North Dakota USA, that may hold an enormous, yet quietly kept secret...
In this small slice of the rural farming lands of the united stated lies a place known as pyramid hill, a small modest pyramidal mound, which is very similar in shape and size to the curious pyramidal mound found in other parts of the world such as Silbury hill, a chalk pyramid within the UK.
Long argued by number of funded geologists as a mere natural formation, however, local residents along with historical accounts within the area, have strongly disagreed with these conclusions, since their predictable acceptance by the academic community.
A vast portion of the surrounding population believe, including a number of specialist historians and archaeologists actually believe that pyramid hill, is in fact that of a man-made pyramid, whats more, they hold to the belief that it is the oldest pyramidal structure on earth…
What makes this site the most interesting we feel however, and the reason for the video is the writing stone which was found nearby some centuries ago.
Clearly very ancient cup and ring marks, and constructed to form some kind of communication, they have however remained undeciphered, they are incredibly intriguing and are reminiscent of a hybrid between music and Morse code, yet all attempts to establish a translation of the pattern have been unsuccessful.
Located in the Sheyenne River valley, in south-eastern North Dakota, it is an area already known to be rich in historically important prehistoric archaeological sites, including other carved rocks, Native American burial mounds, and the ruins of a 19th century military fort hence the name.
Pitted mysteriously cup and ring marked boulders appear in Saskatchewan, South Dakota, Iowa and many other sites all over the world.
Just who created them remains a mystery…
The writing stone of pyramid hill was first literarily described and published, by Theodore H. Lewis in the May 1891, American Naturalist who published research along with detailed drawing of the petroglyphs.
This publication has provided an insight into what a mere a century of exposure to the elements has done to a cup marked boulder...
A worrying comparison of that drawing with the petroglyphs in 1994 indicated that some of the petroglyphs have disappeared, some are now barely detectable, graffiti has also been added, and a new, possibly natural circular depression has appeared… The primary area of erosion appears to be in the northeast corner of the boulder. The new “natural” cup mark is towards the centre of the boulder., these finding reveal that many of the marks which ow appear o many of these ancient stones may in fact been created by erosion in the subsequent millennia.
Was the writing stone left by the original builders of pyramid hill?
If so why is it an unknown language?
Who wrote it?
Is Pyramid hill, really the oldest pyramid on Earth? Built by an unknown culture who clearly spoke and wrote a highly complex, and as yet undecipherable language...
Perhaps one day we will find out the truth.

Bear Paw Lodge housing Oil & Gas workers in Williston, North Dakota
There's more than oil to be found in the Bakken, and when our client began construction of a new natural gas processing facility, we responded with the Bear Paw Lodge -- a state-of-the-art facility that combines all of our innovative, field-tested services, systems and amenities in one, 608 bed lodge. The key to it all is our signature Central Corridor, the spine of the lodge which provides an environmentally controlled link to all the rooms in the facility so there is never any need to brave the elements when going to eat, work out, relax in the sauna or just play a game of pool. The lodge also features attractive landscaping as well as a grand entranceway, which provides a protective vestibule during the harsh winter months.

I shot this video while on vacation out west with my family. It took about 4-5 days of actual filming and taking clips to get the footage. We went through Minot, Medora, Kenmare, and pretty much every town and city in between lol.
We did go to the Medora Musical which you'll see in two clips from the video toward the middle. I highly recommend going to see it, the scenary is absolutely amazing and the show itself is spectacular, it's a very good show to go see for the family. Also while in North Dakota we traveled through the badlands and road horses through the canyons. If you want to watch my video on the Badlands I urge you to click on the link or click on the title at the end of this video and check it out :)
