The Little Red Lighthouse 360 VIEW
The Little Red Lighthouse, officially Jeffrey's Hook Light, is a small lighthouse located in Fort Washington Park on the Hudson River in New York City, under the George Washington Bridge. It was made notable by the 1942 children's book The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge by Hildegarde Swift, illustrated by Lynd Ward. The lighthouse stands on Jeffrey’s Hook, a small point of land that supports the base of the eastern pier of the bridge, which connects the Washington Heights neighborhood in Manhattan to Fort Lee, New Jersey.
The first attempt to reduce Hudson River traffic accidents at Jeffrey's Hook was a red pole which was hung out over the river.[5] A 10 candle-power light was added to the pole in 1889 to help warn the increasing river traffic away from the spit of land at night. The land around Jeffrey's Hook was acquired by the city in 1896, and later become Fort Washington Park.[5]
The current structure was built as the North Hook Beacon at Sandy Hook, New Jersey, where it stood until 1917, when it became obsolete.[5] It was reconstructed at its current location in 1921 by the United States Coast Guard as part of a project to improve Hudson River navigational aids, and originally had a battery-powered lamp and a fog bell. It was operated by a part-time lighthouse keeper.[5]
When the George Washington Bridge was completed in 1931, however, the lighthouse was considered to be obsoleted by the bridge's navigational lights,[6] and the Coast Guard decommissioned it and put out its light in 1948, with the intention of auctioning it off.[5] The proposed dismantling of the lighthouse resulted in a public outcry, largely from children who were fans of the 1942 children's book, The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge, by Hildegarde Swift.[7] This led to the Coast Guard deeding the lighthouse to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation on July 23, 1951.[5]
The lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Jeffrey's Hook Lighthouse in 1979,[8] and was designated a New York City Landmark in 1991.[5] In 2002, it was relighted by the city.[3]
Public access to the lighthouse is by the Hudson River Greenway, reachable north of the George Washington Bridge by a footbridge across the Henry Hudson Parkway at West 182nd Street and Riverside Drive, and south of the bridge by a footbridge at West 158th Street. The northern path is very steep immediately north of the bridge, while the southern path is flat. Tours of the lighthouse are given on an infrequent basis, arranged by the Parks Department's Urban Park Rangers, especially on the Little Red Lighthouse Festival day in mid-September and Open House New York day in October.

A Circle Line trip around Manhattan, early 1968
From friends home movies. We leave the pier, see a white ship that, I think says Homeric, Panama on it, pass the Circle Line pier with the Department of Marine and Aviation, City of New York sign on it, see two Moran tugboats tied up to the American Export/Isbrantsen Lines pier, see the Empire State Building on a foggy or hazy/smoggy day, see the Statue of Liberty, a quick crooked shot of Ellis Island, some quick shots one of which is lower Manhattan, then a slower shot showing buildings being constructed (date?), the Brooklyn Bridge with City Hall to its left then right!, some trailer trucks on railroad flatcars by the water, see High Bridge, then another bridge I don't know the name of, then the other side of High Bridge?, then underneath the next one?, and another, then looking back at them, then junk cars by the river, a memorial (what is its name? It is out of place to be Grant's Tomb...), the Marble Hill bridge? which we see a subway train go over, the we approach Spuyten Duyvil and the Henry Hudson and Spuyten Duyvil bridges. We see some kids running along the shore, following the boat, see the open Spuyten Duyvil bridge and the Henry Hudson bridge beyond it, see the George Washington bridge off in the distance, go under the GWB and see the Little Red Lighthouse (Jeffrey's Hook, Washington Park) and ending with a look up at the roadway above.
Stepping Stones Lighthouse, Long Island Sound.
Passing the Steppingstones heading eastward in the Sound.
Per Wiki:
Stepping Stones Light is a Victorian-style lighthouse in Long Island Sound, in Nassau County, New York. The lighthouse is square-shaped and made of red brick, standing one-and-a-half stories high. The Hudson-Athens Lighthouse is a virtual twin of this structure. The light is in current use, under the management of the United States Coast Guard. It is not open to the public.
The reef upon which it sits was given its name by Siwanoy (Minnefords) Native American legends. According to the legend, the tribe used warriors, medicine, and magic to chase the devil out of present-day Westchester County, New York onto City Island (formerly Greater Minneford Island), surrounding him at Belden Point. The devil then picked up huge boulders lying there and tossed them into Long Island Sound, using them as stepping stones to make his escape. The natives named the rocks, The Devil's Stepping Stones.
It was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Stepping Stones Light Station on September 15, 2005.
9 Secrets of the Statue of Liberty Most Americans Don't Know
The Statue of Liberty is one of the most (if not THE most) famous monuments in the world. Anyone visiting New York City can see her, but not everyone knows that Lady Liberty has her own secrets. One of them is – she might not even be a lady at all!
Or do you know, for example, that number seven meant a lot for the Statue's creators? It's easy to notice the Statue has seven spikes on its crown, symbolizing universal liberty across the seven oceans and continents. But there are less obvious references to the number seven. Btw, you can see this monument not in NYC only!

SUMMARY:
- It's really hard to picture it, but the Statue actually arrived from France on June 17, 1885, in over 300 copper pieces. The precious cargo was traveling in 214 crates on the French ship, Isère.
- Then, American newspaper magnate Joseph Pulitzer stepped in. Even though 80% of the donations were small ones from middle-class citizens, Pulitzer managed to collect the necessary amount from over 120,000 donors.
- The Statue of Liberty is made of copper, so it was originally about the same color as a penny. According to the New York Historical Society, it turned completely green because of oxidation by 1920.
- The statue was originaly supposed to serve as a lighthouse for ships sailing into New York Harbor. And, two years after it arrived in the US, it actually became one.
- There are 16 leaves around the torch, and the monument itself is 151 feet tall. The sum of both those digits is seven as well. Clearly, that number meant a lot for the Statue's creators.
- Famous engineer Alexander Gustave Eiffel helped design the steel internal framework to keep the statue stable. It's strong enough to withstand around 600 bolts of lightning a year.
- Most people are positive it's a representation of the Roman goddess of freedom, Libertas. The widely accepted story is that Bartholdi modeled her face after his mother.
- Author and journalist, Elizabeth Mitchell, however, claims that the sculptor actually used his brother's face as a model!
- Another theory was presented by French writer Nathalie Salmon, who claims Lady Liberty was modeled after her ancestor Sarah Salmon.
- You can find a smaller Statue of Liberty, which was the original model for its big sister, in the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. It's been there since 1906, after Bartholdi gave it to the Luxembourg museum for the World’s Fair of 1900.

⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Walking NYC : Roosevelt Island Tour from Costco Wholesale, Astoria, Queens
Google Maps Route:
Enjoy this video where I walk from Costco Wholesale in Astoria, Queens along Vernon Boulevard to Roosevelt Island in Manhattan.
From Wikipedia:
Roosevelt Island is a narrow island in New York City's East River. It lies between Manhattan Island to its west and the borough of Queens, on Long Island, to its east. It is politically part of the borough of Manhattan, and New York County. Running from the equivalent of East 46th to 85th Streets on Manhattan Island, it is about 2 miles (3.2 km) long, with a maximum width of 800 feet (240 m), and a total area of 147 acres (0.59 km2). Together with Mill Rock, Roosevelt Island constitutes Manhattan's Census Tract 238, which has a land area of 0.279 sq mi (0.72 km2), and had a population of 9,520 as of the 2000 United States Census. It had a population of 11,661 as of the 2010 United States Census.
The island was called Minnehanonck by the Lenape and Varkens Eylandt (Hog Island) by New Netherlanders, and during the colonial era and later as Blackwell's Island. It was known as Welfare Island when it was used principally for hospitals, from 1921 to 1973. It was renamed Roosevelt Island (after Franklin D. Roosevelt) in 1973.
Roosevelt Island is owned by the city but was leased to New York state's Urban Development Corporation for 99 years in 1969. Most of the residential buildings on Roosevelt Island are rental buildings. There is also a cooperative named Rivercross and a condominium building named Riverwalk. One rental building (Eastwood) has left New York State's Mitchell-Lama Housing Program, though current residents are still protected. It is now called Roosevelt Landings. There are attempts to privatize three other buildings, including the cooperative.

Some Footage From Around NYC, George Washington Bridge
The George Washington Bridge – known informally as the GW Bridge,[4] the GWB,[5] the GW,[6] or the George[7] – is a double-decked suspension bridge spanning the Hudson River, connecting the Washington Heights neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan in New York City to Fort Lee, New Jersey, in the United States. As of 2015, the George Washington Bridge carries over 106 million vehicles per year, making it the world's busiest motor vehicle bridge,[8][9] according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the bi-state government agency that owns and operates several area bridges, tunnels, and airports.
The bridge, an integral conduit within the New York metropolitan area, has an upper level that carries four lanes in each direction and a lower level with three lanes in each direction, for a total of 14 lanes of travel. The speed limit on the bridge is 45 mph (72 km/h), though congestion often slows traffic, especially during the morning and evening rush hours. The bridge's upper level also carries pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Interstate 95 (I-95) and U.S. Route 1/9 (US 1/9) cross the river via the bridge. The New Jersey Turnpike (part of I-95, connecting to I-80) and US 46, which lie entirely within New Jersey, end halfway across the bridge at the state border with New York. At its eastern terminus in New York City, the bridge connects with the Trans-Manhattan Expressway (part of I-95, connecting to the Cross Bronx Expressway).

Modern Times Wonders - STATUE OF LIBERTY New York
MTW-DVD-102 - Situated in New York Harbour, the Statue of Liberty has become the proud symbol of the United States of America. The statue of the Goddess of Freedom carries the light of the spirit of enlightenment to the Free World.
Alexander Gustave Eiffel, whose tower later made him famous, built the statue's ingenious iron frame construction supported by a central shaft. Around this framework a 2.4 millimetre thick copper coating was attached to the statue and it is mainly due to Eiffel's frame that the monument has withstood the bay's savage winter storms.
On the 28th October 1886, North America's most important statue was inaugurated by President Grover Cleveland. The statue was the design of a young sculptor, Bartholdi, who had eagerly accepted the work due to the fact that the commission of his design of a large female statue for a lighthouse on the Suez Canal had not reached fruition.
At first, the statue received little love and affection. Indeed, New Yorkers used the statue's unveiling ceremony for a protest demonstration! Since then, however, it has most assuredly conquered the hearts of those who have seen it and it has become a symbol of freedom for the whole of America.

Oddie's Historical Feature - Episode 18
The story of Evelyn Nesbit -who became the world's first supermodel.
She was Charles Dana Gibson's 'GIBSON GIRL' - representing the ideal image of American women at that time.
It's truly a rags to riches (and nearly back to rags) ...story.
The setting is New York, in the early 1900s - where she meets Stanford White, the renowned architect. How he betrayed her trust - and the price he paid for that years later; at the hands of her mentally ill husband, atop the Madison Square Garden restaurant.
This story is dedicated to the YouTube user: 'marie elena' - who suggested I should research this case. Thank you my friend!

Plymouth Rock
Pilgrim Memorial State Park is one of the most heavily visited parks in the state parks system. Nearly one million people a year come from all over the world to visit The Rock and the town where in 1620 Europeans first made a home in New England. This simple glacial erratic boulder on the shore of Plymouth Harbor has become a world famous symbol of the courage and faith of the men and women who founded the first New England colony. A landscaped waterfront park provides scenic views of Plymouth Harbor. The Mayflower II, a replica of the ship that brought the first Pilgrims to Massachusetts, is anchored at the park.

Maine Travel Guide (USA) - The Nubble Lighthouse in York
Take a tour of Nubble Lighthouse in Maine, United States -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats.
Sitting atop an islet on lush green grass and lovely landscape is The Nubble Lighthouse.
Officially known by many as Cape Neddick Lighthouse, this beautiful yet simple structure is considered by many to be exemplary lighthouse.
The tower, made of cast-iron and lined with red-brick, is approximately 41 feet in height.
In 1874 Congress approved the 15,000 dollars it would take to build this lighthouse.
A photograph of this lighthouse was even put in the Voyager Spacecraft, whose mission is to provide information about our world to any possible extra-terrestrials.
Set amid the deep blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean on a small yet enchanting island with a pleasant coastline, this charming lighthouse is surely picture-perfect.
