The Fort Worth Stockyards is a historic district that is located in Fort Worth, Texas, north of the central business district. The 98-acre (40 ha) district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Fort Worth Stockyards Historic District in 1976.[1] They are a former livestock market which operated under various owners from 1866.[2]
The Fort Worth Stockyards now celebrates Fort Worth's long tradition as a part of the cattle industry and was listed on the National Register as a historical district in 1976. The listing included 46 contributing buildings and one other contributing structure.[1]
The Stockyards consist of mainly entertainment and shopping venues that capitalize on the Cowtown image of Fort Worth. Home to the famous boot making company M.L. Leddy's which is located in the heart of the Stockyards and The Maverick Fine Western Wear and Saloon where customers can 'belly up' to the bar, relax and have a cold beer while in the Stockyards; just like they did in the days of the big cattle drives, as they shop around the store.[4] The city of Fort Worth is often referred to as Where the West Begins.[3] Many bars and nightclubs (including Billy Bob's Texas) are located in the vicinity, and the area has a Western motif. There is also an opry and a rodeo. The Fort Worth Stockyards are the last standing stockyards in the United States. Some volunteers still run the cattle drives through the stockyards, a practice developed in the late 19th century by the frontiersman Charles Buffalo Jones, who herded buffalo calves through the streets of Garden City, Kansas.[5]
On April 1, 2011, the Fort Worth Stockyards Stables were remodeled and reopened. They are located next door to the Hyatt hotel in an original Historic Stockyards building that was built in 1912. These stables offer full care boarding, overnight boarding, hourly boarding, horse rentals on the open trails of the Trinity River and carriage rides. Boarders can ride their horses all around the Historic Stockyards.

SOLD! Historic W.T. Waggoner Ranch - The Largest Ranch Under One Fence in the U.S.
Representatives for the renowned W.T. Waggoner Ranch today announced that Judge Dan Mike Bird of the 46th Judicial District Court has allowed the Waggoner’s owners to proceed with a private transaction under which Stan Kroenke, American businessman, professional sports team owner and rancher, will become the Waggoner’s new owner.
This historic transaction will be the first-ever sale of the Waggoner, an approximately 535,000 acre estate which was established in 1849 and spans across 6 Texas counties and almost 800 square miles. It is currently the largest ranch under one fence in the U.S., and includes thousands of cattle, hundreds of horses and oil wells, and 30,000 acres of farmland. Terms of the potential transaction were not disclosed. The ranch has been marketed by Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty‘s Bernard Uechtritz.
“This is an incredible opportunity and an even greater responsibility,” said Mr. Kroenke. “We are honored to assume ownership of the Waggoner – a true Texas and American landmark – and are deeply committed to continuing the proud legacy of W.T. “Tom” Waggoner, his family and his descendants. Our gratitude to them and to the many parties involved in this process is immense. We will continue to preserve and protect this uniquely American treasure.”
“The selection of Mr. Kroenke and potential sale bring to a close an unprecedented global marketing effort,” said Bernard Uechtritz of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty‘s, one of the seller’s representatives. “The sale of the Waggoner was an extraordinarily complex and multi-faceted process, and its successful culmination is a tribute to the many people, teams and layers of teams representing all sides behind the process.”
Bradley Wharton, a representative of the Wharton heirs to the Waggoner Ranch, stated, “Amid an emotional and, at times, trying sale process, we never lost sight of what we wanted in a new owner of this historic property: a keen sense of tradition, a love of the land, and loyalty to the people who work here. Electra Biggs Moulder, namesake of her mother Electra Waggoner Biggs and great aunt Electra Waggoner Wharton, commented, “I am so pleased that the legacy of the Estate is passing to the right man, who has shown a commitment to conservation and the Waggoner way of life.”

We are excited about integrating this second-to-none ranch with our ranch holdings in the United States and in Canada. CCISD FFA Members get ready for Auction
Today was quite a long day! We had to transfer all the animals from the barn at Creek to the West barn off of Nasa Road 1. I got pretty upset while I was loading Pinky up on to the trailer because its just one step closer to the big day. After loading her up we had to take out all our equipment and then take down her sign, which broke my heart. Now shes getting used to her new home for the next few days at the West barn.
This week is going to be super crazy for me! Pinky and I will be working everyday in preparation for the show. The hog show is on Wednesday the 29th (be sure to look for me in pink!) Even though I won the showmanship clinic a few weeks back, Im still extremely nervous! I hope everyone comes to the shows this week to support CCISDs hardworking FFA members. If you arent interested in purchasing an animal, keep in mind that there are Add-ons. An Add-on is simply a donation it is added on to the students price that they sold the animal for. Usually, local businesses, family, friends, etc. will do a $100 dollar add-on or however much they wish to donate in support of all the hard work the student has put forth for this project. Also keep in mind that if a students animal does not make sale, any buyers can purchase the animal still through the student.
The actual auction itself is on Thursday the 30th. Any interested buyers and sponsors are more than welcome to the buyers reception from 5-6:45 p.m. just before the start of the auction at 7:00. Please come out and support all of us hard working students! Were really looking forward to a great turn-out this year.
Thanks again everyone for following me and Pinkys story! Im really hoping that we make the auction sale more than anything. If Pinky sells, the money for her and any add-ons will be a great down payment for my next four years of college. I just received my acceptance letters from Texas State and Stephen F. Austin and after I decide which school Ill attend, I will continue to pursue my career path into the education field.
