Horrifying eruption of Mount Lokon (10th September 2013)
10 September 2013, sekitar pukul 6 pagi, gunung Lokon meletus. Saat itu masih banyak masyarakat kota Tomohon yang belum menyadari kejadian ini karena aktifitas mereka yang masih di dalam rumah.
Baru pada sekitar pukul 6;45, ketika banyak orang yg mulai menuju ke tempat kerja dan sekolah, aktifitas gunung ini menjadi pusat perhatian. Banyak yang keluar rumah atau berhenti dari kendaraan untuk menonton letusan susulan ke dua yang lebih besar.
Karena sudah terbiasa dengan aktiftas gunung ini, masyarakat pada umumnya tidak terlihat panik terkecuali untuk masyarakat di sekitar kaki gunung yaitu Kinilow, Kaskasen, Kayawu dan Tinoor, yang pastinya sudah diberi peringatan oleh pihak terkait untuk lebih waspada dan sudah ada yang menangani untuk mengantisipasi dengan kejadian bencana alam seperti ini.

September 22, 2012 -- JAKARTA, Indonesia -- A volcano in northern Indonesia has spewed hot smoke and ash thousands of feet into the air in two new eruptions. Mount Lokon on Sulawesi island had been dormant before rumbling back to life last year. Government volcanologist Hendrasto says it unleashed two strong eruptions Friday. Residents have been put on alert, but no evacuations are planned since the nearest villages are beyond the danger area about 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) from the crater. Mount Lokon's last major eruption in 1991 killed a Swiss hiker and forced thousands to flee. The volcano is one of five on high alert in Indonesia. The archipelago straddles the Pacific Ring of Fire and has more active volcanoes than any other nation.

Musim kemarau selama beberapa bulan terakhir ini menjadikan area hutan kering dan rawan terbakar. sebagaimana yang terjadi pada hari Rabu, 23 September 2015, sekitar pukul 4 sore. Hutan dikawasan gunung Lokon terbakar dan sangat cepat merambat ke daerah sekitarnya. Diperkirakan sekitar 100 hektar lebih area hutan dilalap si jago merah. Belum jelas penyebab kebakaran hingga kini, apakah faktor alam atau karena keteledoran manusia.
