Long Island is an island in the southeast of the U.S. state of New York, just east of Manhattan. Stretching northeast into the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island contains four counties, two of which are boroughs of New York City (Queens and Brooklyn), and two of which are mainly suburban (Nassau and Suffolk). The term Long Island often refers only to Nassau and Suffolk counties in order to differentiate them from New York City, though all four counties are on the island and part of the New York metropolitan area

'Amityville Horror' House In Long Island Sold
AMITYVILLE, N.Y. (AP) — The Long Island home that served as the inspiration for the book The Amityville Horror and the subsequent films of the same name is being bought. Newsday reports ( ) the infamous 1927 Dutch Colonial on Amityville's Ocean Avenue went into contract this week. The home came on the market in June for $850,000. Before gaining fame with the release of the original movie in 1979, the house was where 23-year-old Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his parents and four younger siblings in 1974. ___ Information from: Newsday,

Most people have probably never heard of it but there is a tiny 100 by 200 foot island on the East River in New York City called U Thant Island. It’s right below Roosevelt Island and next to the United Nations headquarters and has more history per square foot than most places in Manhattan.
It’s origin dates back to the late 19th century when construction of an underground tunnel produced a tiny mound of rock that was originally named Belmont Island, after August Belmont Jr. who financed the construction project.
In the intervening years it was leased by a Buddhist spiritual group, crashed into by numerous vessels, and briefly occupied by a protesting artist.

Stretching northeastwards from New York Harbor into the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island contains four counties, two of which are boroughs of New York City, and two of which are mainly suburban . In popular usage, Long Island often refers only to Nassau and Suffolk counties in order to differentiate them from New York City, although all four counties are situated on the island and are part of the New York metropolitan area. North of the island is Long Island Sound, across which are the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island.

We spent one of our last summer Saturdays at Fire Island... an hour after relaxing in the sun and sand we realized there were some people that were free and clothing was optional. Aside from that small detail, the houses and beaches were beautiful! Plus, there are wild deer that roam the wooden walkways - straight chillin'!
