Lopez Farm Cottages and Tent Camping, Gourmet Campgrounds Video
Of all the San Juan Islands, Lopez Island is truly the most unique. It is like stepping back in the past with all the old farms, hay fields, sheep and cattle pastures and open views to the surrounding waters and snow capped mountains.
Don't be surprised when people wave to you, it's a long standing tradition. It is one of the reasons Lopez is known as the friendly island. Because the pace is slower on Lopez the residents are typically referred to by other islanders as Slowpezians.
Lopez Island is also recognized as the bicycling island because of its gentle terrain with no major hills. The annual Tour de Lopez event is held on the last weekend in April and is so popular that Washington State runs a special ferry to accommodate all the bicyclists.
Even on Lopez Island location is critical. We are at the north end of the Island, 2.6 miles from the ferry landing, directly across from the Lopez Winery & Vineyards and less than one mile to Lopez Village where you will find excellent restaurants, the Village Market with fresh everything, Holly B's famous Bakery, coffee shops and more.
Lopez Farm Cottages & Tent Camping is a 30 acre facility designed for a small but special market...couples and singles.
For the comfort of our guests we do not accept: children, pets, RV's, camper vans or electronic music. We have the only camping showers on Lopez Island.

Friday Harbor, San Juan Islands - Ferry Tour and Best Pizza In Washington State!
You can't get any further from New York City and still be in the continental USA, but Friday Harbor on San Juan Island has some of the best NY Style pizza in the Pacific Northwest for sure.
The ferry ride to Friday Harbor departs from Anacortes on Fidalgo Island and about an hour later pulls into the main San Juan Island. The views along the way are incredible for the nature-lover, and all will enjoy the sea planes that land and take off around you and the random military fighter jet that shows up to provide an escort.
Enjoy the views from the ferry and the brief tour of Friday Harbor before sitting down at 'Cousin Vinnie's' old school pizza place, decorated with some old black and white photos and adorned with an old fashion juke box.
A quick stop at the wine and cheese bar is also worth it and don't leave the island without checking out the Whale Museum - gives all a good insight into the lives of the local Orcas that are often seen among the San Juan Islands.
Enjoy!!

A Visit to The Whale Museum, Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, Washington
The Whale Museum promotes stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research. Visit this historic building in downtown Friday Harbor, only three blocks from the ferry landing. With fun and educational exhibits about whales, free videos, and a well-stocked gift shop that features marine mammal books, art and gifts, the Whale Museum is a great first stop on a visit to Friday Harbor.
There are 172 named islands and reefs in San Juan County, however the four ferry served Islands; San Juan Island (with the county seat Friday Harbor), Orcas Island, Lopez Island and Shaw Island are the most populous and host the vast majority of lodging and dining options and tourism activities.
So breathe deep, get comfortable (casual is the rule on these islands, from clothes to the friendly greetings you’ll receive.) Relax—you’re on “island time” now.

Road Trip: Western USA (Part 1)
This is the first part of a multi-part series. Links to the other parts are below the description.
In the summer of 2018, two days after our wedding, my wife and I embarked on a four-week journey across the US for our honeymoon. My wife is from South Korea, where we live together, and this was her first trip to the US (my home country). We chose to spend our honeymoon driving cross-country because we didn’t know if we’d ever again get another opportunity like this. Starting from my parents’ home in Ohio, our journey took us over 7,000 miles (11,000 km) across 18 states. This first video mainly focuses on the time we spent driving through the midwest and exploring South Dakota (namely, the Badlands and the Black Hills). The other videos in this series will chronicle our travels through Glacier National Park, Washington state (Seattle, San Juan Islands, Olympic Peninsula), Oregon (Portland, the coast), California (redwoods, San Francisco, Yosemite, Death Valley), Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Utah (Monument Valley, Arches National Park), and Denver.
*A note about this first video: You may notice that there’s a point in the video when we are no longer driving the same vehicle we began the trip with. This is because we ran into car trouble a couple of days into the trip, causing us to get stuck in the Black Hills longer than we’d planned and forcing us to eventually swap cars for the remainder of the trip.
The music used in this video is by the bands Sigur Ros and Iron & Wine. All rights belong to the recording artists. Visit their websites for more info:
Part 2 (Glacier National Park, Seattle, San Juan Islands, Olympic Peninsula):
Part 3 (Portland, Oregon Dunes, northern California coast, redwood forests, San Francisco):
Part 4 (Yosemite, Death Valley, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Arches NP, Denver):
One fine day to Whidbey Island
This was an impromptu day-trip. We were heading to San Juan Islands before realizing that the ferry sailing was in the mid-afternoon.
The trip took us to Whidbey Island to explore it for the first time. The weather forecast was bleak. So glad we did not plan around it. We drove about 250 miles in 12 hours.
Please let me know what you think. Comments and feedback are appreciated. Thanks for your support.
Here are what we did:
1) Drove about ~2 hours to catch Washington State Ferry at Mukilteo, WA
2) Boarded the ferry and landed in Clinton, WA (20 minutes crossing)
3) Visited Langley, WA
4) Visited Fort Casey
5) Visited Coupeville, WA and enjoyed Penn Cove Mussels from the Cove Cafe
6) Visited Deception Pass State Park
7) Stopped in Seattle for a Chirashi Bowl before heading for home.
