Living in Los Feliz
Nestled in the lush hills south of Griffith Park, the neighborhood of Los Feliz boast spectacular views of Los Angeles, and equally impressive old Hollywood estates. A destination spot for locals
and tourist alike, Los feliz is an elegant neighborhood of outstanding architecture and vibrant local attractions.
The heart of the neighborhood is Los Feliz Village, centrally located and bustling with eclectic shops, restaurants and attractions all situated along Hillhurst and Vermont and Avenues.
Los Feliz is home to several highly regarded schools. Franklin Elementary, a California Distinguished public School is situated at the center of the neighborhood. The Lycee International
of Los Angeles or LILA, is a private French-American elementary school. The John Lautner designed structures that make up the campus are cultural and historic landmarks in the City Los
Angeles.
Just down the street from Franklin Elementary and overlooking LILA is Shakespeare Bridge, another historic landmark in the neighborhood, that leads to the Franklin Hills area of Los Feliz.
Built in the Gothic style in 1926 it remains a beautiful addition to the neighborhood to this day.
The hills north of Los Feliz Blvd are filled with world-renown architecture. Frank Lloyd Wrights Ennis house, his most accomplished work in the Mayan revival style sits high atop Los Feliz, overlooking Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles.
The Richard Neutra designed Lovell house is a prime example of the international modernist style. Its clean lines and Hollywood charm have been seen in several movies. It sits overlooking the
entrance to Griffith Park.
No evening out in Los Feliz is complete without a stop at one of the neighborhoods local nightspots. Grab an espresso at café Figaro, and take the short walk to the Majestic Vista Theater
to catch the latest Hollywood releases. Wind down the evening with a nightcap around the corner at the famous Good Luck Bar, an Asian themed lounge serving up mellow vibes and some of the
neighborhoods best cocktails.

Los Feliz Estates was a Japanese Family Flower Farm, that now become the Los Feliz Estates.
After Pearl Harbor the family was forced to leave the land but they returned in 1945.
In the five decades before anyone called the Los Feliz Estates their home it was home to the Kuromi family.
Starting in 1917 they had a 99 year lease on the property which was their home and livelihood
A.H. Kuromi and his wife Royo ran a flower farm at 5149 Los Feliz Bl.
Early on they took their flowers to the downtown flower market with a horse and buggy and later had a retail flower business on Los Feliz.
They grew sweet peas, chrysanthemums, carnations along with several helpers who also lived on the property.
They all worked 60 hour weeks according to the 1940 census. The Kuromis had three children Aiko, Isamae and Haitoshi.
The oldest, and only daughter Aiko, later known as Alice Ito, for decades ran the Flower View Gardens shop on Western Ave.
This information came from the Shades of LA Interview Project by the LA Public Library.

After Pearl Harbor the family was forced to leave the land. When they returned in 1945 all of their equipment had been stolen and they had to start over. But they rebuilt the business and grew flowers here until the land was sold in 1961. In 1963 it became known as the Los Feliz Estates.
1940 Census lists 20 people including the Kumori family residing on what is now Los Feliz Estate.

About Los Feliz:
Los Feliz[1] is a hillside neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California, abutting Hollywood and encompassing part of the Santa Monica Mountains.
The neighborhood is named after its colonial Spanish-Mexican land grantee, José Vicente Feliz, and, along with present-day Griffith Park, makes up the original Rancho Los Feliz land concession.
Description[edit]
Los Feliz Boulevard, lined with Deodar trees
Los Feliz encompasses several smaller but distinct areas, including the Los Feliz Hills and Los Feliz Estates (north of Los Feliz Boulevard), Laughlin Park, Los Feliz Village, Los Feliz Square, Los Feliz Knolls, and Franklin Hills.
According to the Mapping L.A. project of the Los Angeles Times, Los Feliz is part of Central Los Angeles. It is flanked on the north by Griffith Park, on the northeast by Atwater Village, on the southeast by Silver Lake, on the south by East Hollywood, and on the northwest by Hollywood and Hollywood Hills.[2][3]
Its boundaries are the Griffith Park line between Fern Dell Drive and Riverside Drive on the north; the Los Angeles River on the east; Hyperion Avenue and Griffith Park Boulevard on the southeast; Fountain Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard on the south; and Western Avenue, Los Feliz Boulevard, and Fern Dell Drive on the west and northwest.[4][5]
Homes in Los Angeles | Los Feliz
Los Feliz is a relaxed hillside enclave that draws both established and up-and-coming creative types. There are plenty of old-school watering holes, hip shops and cafes, plus the Vista Theatre, a 1923 movie palace, and a pair of exemplary Frank Lloyd Wright homes. The neighborhood borders sprawling Griffith Park, beloved by locals for its hiking, concerts at the Greek Theatre and stargazing at Griffith Observatory.
Hi Everyone!
I've been really busy working in real estate and I thought it would be a fun idea to show you the homes around the area I work in. I really love the neighborhood because of its architecture, charm and history.

Sitting above one of Los Feliz's most prized streets, 4711 Bonvue marries modern functionality with the intoxication of 1920's Spanish architecture. Fully renovated; no finish has been overlooked, no detail un-curated. Arches, coved ceilings, wood floors and windows, Spanish and Moroccan design throughout. On the main level are the public rooms; living, dining, kitchen, office and a family room. Upstairs are the en-suite master and 2 additional bedrooms (one of which leads to a separate, sun-filled studio/den). The lower floor contains it's own kitchen, bathroom and entrance; the perfect in-law suite, screening room or potential music studio. With a heated pool, private back yard and downtown framed through the trees, the house offers the best of privacy and proximity. At the base of Griffith Park and a moment from Los Feliz blvd., there is easy access to all that Los Feliz, Silver Lake and Hollywood have to offer. How life in LA is meant to be lived.

Los Feliz is a hillside neighborhood in the central region of Los Angeles, California, abutting Hollywood and encompassing part of the Santa Monica Mountains.
The neighborhood is named after its colonial Spanish-Mexican land grantee, José Vicente Feliz, and, along with present-day Griffith Park, makes up the original Rancho Los Feliz land concession.
Atwater Village is a highly diverse neighborhood in the 13th district of Los Angeles, California. Much of Atwater Village lies in the fertile Los Angeles River flood plain. Located in the northeast region of the city, Atwater borders Griffith Park and Silver Lake to the west, Glendale to the north and east, and Glassell Park to the south. It has three elementary schools—two public and one private. Almost half the residents were born abroad, a high percentage for the city of Los Angeles.
