Amazing! Lost River Caverns - Hellertown, Pennsylvania caves

My visit to Lost River Caverns was my first trip to a cave, so I was truly amazed! It was a lot to take in during the 20-30 minute tour but I snapped tons of pictures because I love art and, to me, nature is the best artist out there. I've always stood in awe of the sky and it's continually changing canvas, the patterns and colors in flowers and plants, rivers, lakes, mountains, the beaches and seas, and now I am equally amazed at the subterranean beauty of caverns like this one.
This 1200' x 80' cavern wasn't discovered until 1883 when a limestone quarry that was being mined at the site cut into it. It was originally named Rentzheimer's Cave and Lost Cave. The Lost River flows through the cavern. The name is fitting since the source of the water has yet to be identified. It has only one entrance.
The temperature is 52-degrees Fahrenheit in the cavern all year round. Calcite is commonly found in limestone caverns like this one. Flowstone is seen on the ceiling. Speleopthems such as stalactites and stalagmites are numerous.
Outside the cavern you may walk the Nature Trail, which explains some of the geological features of the region and facts about caves. There is also a station for gem panning and visitors can try their hand and luck at finding a valuable souvenir. There is a museum, rock shop, jewelry shop, and picnic area too.
If you are in the Lehigh Valley and have an hour or two to spare, I would recommend seeing the Lost River Caverns for yourself. They are open year-round every day, except Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. They are located at 726 Durham Street, Hellertown, Pennsylvania.

On a road trip to Pennsylvania we had a chance to explore a real life cave. We learned all about the habitat of the Indian Echo Caverns and the history of the caves.
If you plan to visit the caves make sure to wear solid shoes and a jacket as the cave is only 52° and wet.
There is an awesome gift shop on sight where you can purchase rare minerals and educational toys for kids. There is also, a children's playground and petting zoo outside while you wait for your tour. Be prepared for a hike but also make sure you bring your camera.

Lost River Cave is one of those places that not many people know exists. Tourism in Bowling Green is usually limited to the National Corvette Museum but for those willing to explore will find an amazing underground cave with boat tours, cave crawls, kayaking and so much more. Mysterious Pennsylvania Ice Mine Only Produces Ice In The Summer
Most people like to escape the summer heat with a trip to the beach or a swim in the local pool, but here's an alternative for those of you with more eclectic travel tastes: Coudersport Ice Mine.
The mine was a tucked-away roadside attraction in Pennsylvania's Appalachian Mountains for many years until it was abruptly closed down a quarter of a century ago. But now, after a 25-year hiatus, this hidden summer getaway is once again open to the public, reports Living on Earth.
The frigid cavern isn't just a great place to escape the summer heat; it's also something of an unsolved anomaly. Strangely, the cave only produces ice in the summertime, and it tends to produce more ice the higher the surrounding temperature gets. When winter falls and snow covers the hilltops, the ice in the cave melts. The phenomenon is so mysterious that some locals even claim (falsely) that the cave is manmade.
