The wondrous Amber Room, stolen by German troops from the Catherine Palace outside St. Petersburg in 1941, disappeared in 1945 as the Red Army swept into East Prussia. Valued at over half a billion dollars today, find out what could have happened to this iconic Nazi treasure that is still sought today.

Has Russia's Amber Room finally been found?
One of the greatest puzzles of the 20th century could be solved soon. German treasure hunters are to resume digging at a site that some believe is the resting place of Russia's legendary Amber Room, as well as almost two tonnes of Nazi gold.

Missing: The Amber Room was completed at Catherine Palace in 1770, but was stolen by the Nazis in 1941. It was taken to Koenigsberg Castle, in what was then in East Prussia, but disappeared in January 1945. The castle is now found in the city of Kaliningrad. It is believed the Nazis’ chief administrator in East Prussia, Erich Koch, transported the Amber Room from the city of Koenigsberg (now Kaliningrad) to Wuppertal in west Germany. However, Mamerki museum staff say they have found a hidden, walled off room which they believe could contain the remains of the Amber Room
