Annascaul Lake - Dingle Peninsula - County Kerry - Ireland

Brackloon - The 3 Peaks of Annascaul
The little mountain village of Annascaul on the Dingle Peninsula echoes of mythical legends and modern day heroes. It was in these lonely hills that the fabled celtic warrior CuChulainn fought and killed the mythical warrior Feirdia to win the love of the beautiful Scail. However, she did not return his love as she remained true to Feirdia and Scail drowned herself in the river - after which the village is named, Annascaul. Tom Crean, the Antarctic explored who accompanied Ernest Shackleton, was born here. Upon his return to Kerry from his travels he settled in the village and open the 'South Pole Inn'. A modern day hero, his memory is still very much alive among the people who live here. Enjoy walking the Brackloon rigde with its trio of 300m peaks and magnificent views of the Slieve Mish mountains, the Com Dubh river system, majestic Dingle bay and the never ending Inch strand. Check out oldanchorinn.com for a great B&B in the heart of the village.

Dingle Way Hike, Cork, and Dublin Slide Show
We spent some quality time in IRE this July, hiking approx 100km on the challenging Dingle Way. We met amazingly friendly locals, hikers, and sheep...lots of sheep. Weather was mostly ideal and our lodging - although sparse in some cases - was comfortable and inviting. Highly recommend you check out South West Walks Ireland if you are interested in planning a guided or self guided hike, bike ride, or (soon to be) surfing outing. Get yourself some good waterproof boots and get out there! Erin go Braugh!

Fishing in Ireland - 1975
A fisherman's paradise is the beautiful River Shannon where the salmon run in abundance and there are many other fish to catch as well. ® The number of salmon in the River is increasing, as under the auspices of the Electricity Supply Board, who control part of the River, the fish are reared to the Smolt Stage and released.
