You will find a unique collection here at this wonderful place including an assembly of arms and artifacts. The museum chronicles conflicts from the Spanish-American War, Civil War, World War 1, World War 11, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and today's war on terror.
Museum features expansive weapons collection, from swords and muskets to heavy machine guns. Especially interesting on the outside grounds were artillery pieces and aircraft.
The human story is best told through diaries, Bibles, medals and kits of personal items. These include a pilot's flight jacket and a German mother's medal she received for bearing man sons for the fatherland.

U.S War through the Eyes of an Army Wife Desert Storm
U.S. War history featuring DESERT STORM. Information and consist footage with artifacts from the Desert Storm war plus other. This is different from Atwell's' usual style of reporting and writing. She has shared a personal part of her and her husband's life as she remembers it through the eyes of an army wife.
Joan briefly talks with Mr. Ernie, museum's director a little about her husband, Harold's Army career of over 22 years..
The story--THROUGH THE EYES OF AN ARMY WIFE..
She looked at the soldier's FEET and almost cried as she thought of the many times her husband came home and had blisters. But then she remembered ALL those other feet back then and now. She was reminded again of how thankful she should be that her husband came home. The she thought of those FEET in previous wars that froze, had walked on the death marches, were in the prison camps, got fungus or infections, had to be amputated, were abused, got injured or blown off...The feet that belonged to the MIA's..And lastly the FEET that came home in a very different way than they went to war. In a bodybag.
Her mind was reeling as she seemed to almost have a vision of our military NOW, wondering where all those feet are and how they are doing? Are they rested, safe, warm?..
At last she caught a glimspe of the GAS MASK and thought of The Unit in which he served for many years. She remembered the friends they both had made, the Army wives that cried together and talked with each other on the phone.. Her eyes teared up as she thought about the second precious baby boy she almost lost that one long summer she was expecting and things were not going normal. But he was committed and that was it. Two summer camps, 5 1/2 weeks gone when she was home with an active 3 year old little boy. She remembered the son that got the broken arm and always seemed to get the high fevers and ear infections when his daddy was away..She remembered the long years of training, schooling, and hours of studying tthat the men in the Unit did to prepare themselves for War just in case they were needed to be used as teachers to help train our Army enlisted military. They would BE READY to teach them everything they needed to know about chemical warfare; how to wear those gas masks, get them on and off quickly. She heard his voice talking again in her mind, telling about the times he and his friends in the UNIT had to wear the gas masks over and over and go through the exact training themselves that our active military go through now. How he described the odors, the sinus problems he encountered, the vomiting that some had to endure, the banana oil used to detect smells.
Then it happened. She remembered our country declaring war, DESERT STORM. She remembered the call of alert and a few days later the call of activation. She remembered the ceremony of SEND OFF held at Mt. Union Baptist Church parking lot early one cold Jan. morning in Spearsville, Louisiana involving two communites, Mt. Union and Camp Creek where a nice crowd waited for Harold's Unit to come by from Arkansas and pick him up. Then Joan remembered Harold saying several times that in his opinion the Army did as good a job at training our young men and women for the preperation of chemical warfare as they could..
Atwell doesn't talk much about her husband as he is a shy man and doesn't want to be brought out in front of the camera for anything. But perhaps this was a story that needed to be told from a perspective that only an Army Wife could understand and relate to others. It was difficult for her. She wants everyone to know that Harold has always considered it an honor to serve his country. He knows many have done much more than he ever did or could do. Joan and Harold think of all those that are living with injuries now and want to say Thank You to every Veteran, every family that lost a loved one and especially to those people who have a friend or a family member serving in our military NOW..
The Atwells hope God will give you a special peace today and a special protection for your loved one..
Joan Atwell says, The Louisiana Military Musuem, in Ruston, La. was a humbling experience for me as my dad, Jack Hollis, from Union Parish, La. passed away 18 years ago on November 11, 1991. He was a Veteran of World War 11 and would have been proud to have seen such a fine musuem as this in our area..He would have wanted to stay all day looking at the artifacts and I would have loved to have been right by his side.....I would recommend the La. Military Musuem to anyone that has an interest in United States War history. Come visit this great place in Ruston, La. I believe you will be glad you did, said Joan.

Monroe is the eighth-largest city in the U.S. state of Louisiana. it is the parish seat of Ouachita Parish. In the official 2010 census, Monroe had a population of 48,815. The municipal population declined by 8.1 percent over the past decade; it was 53,107 in the 2000 census. After a recheck in 2012, the Census Bureau changed the 2010 population from 48,815 to 49,147. Mayor Jamie Mayo, however, maintains that the Monroe population is more than 50,000 and indicated that he will pursue a continued challenge to the count.
Monroe is the principal city of the Monroe Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes the parishes of Ouachita and Union. The two-parish area had a total population of 170,053 in 2000 and an estimated population of 172,275 as of July 1, 2007. The larger Monroe-Bastrop Combined Statistical Area is composed of both the Monroe Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Bastrop Micropolitan Statistical Area. The CSA had a population of 201,074 in 2000.

On Friday, August 8, U.S. Senator Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., dedicated the new Lincoln Parish Public Safety Complex, located in Ruston, La. The new 24,000 sq. ft. facility will serve 29 parishes across Northeastern Louisiana and was built at no cost to taxpayers.
