Walking through Lower Marsh Street Market on two separate hot summer days, Waterloo, London.
This market is sadly now a shadow of it's former self - it once used to be a thriving bustling market - the good news is that amongst the handful of stalls now trading are some wonderful street food stalls.
Here's YouTube video links to a couple of the street food stalls located in the market:

Trinidad Street Food: A Chana Doubles for only £2.00 at Trini Kitchen, Lower Marsh Market, London.
✓ Trinidadian Doubles is a very common street food in Trinidad and Tobago. It is a deliciously yummy snack made with two baras (Bara is fried flat bread very similar to Indian Puri or Punjabi Bhatura) it is then filled with curry channa (curried chickpeas).
We are pleasantly surprised by the many similarities between Trinidadian Food and Indian food, i.e. the names of the food and the similar spices used. But it all makes sense once you research and look a little bit deeper into the past history of the island.
There is a history of Indians coming to the Caribbean Island; these were people who were escaping poverty in India and seeking employment offered by the British for jobs either as indentured labourers, workers or educated servicemen, this occurred primarily between 1845 and 1917. The demand for Indian indentured labourers increased dramatically after the abolition of slavery in 1834. They were sent, sometimes in large numbers, to plantation colonies producing high value crops such as sugar in Africa and the Caribbean.
With the arrival of the Indians, they also bought their cuisine, culture and religion (Hinduism). Having bought along the foods and spices from back home; it was also possible to grow foodstuffs because the tropical temperature and climate was very similar to the Indian weather.
As you probably know by now, we absolutely love discovering secret places like this, a place serving delicious restaurant quality, home cooked food; but at very affordable street food prices!!! There is no secret to the recipe and preparation because the Chef Patron Mariana makes everything in full view of you.
Just some of the similarities of the foods:
* Sada Roti = Tawa Roti or chapati
* Paratha = Parantha
* Doubles (Chickpea curry) = Chana Bhatura
* Puri = Bara
* Pelau Rice = Pilau Rice
The name of the stall is Lagniappe - Trini Kitchen and is located on Lower Marsh Market, London, SE1 7RG, U.K. (near Waterloo train station).
If you're planning a visit to especially taste some of the dishes seen, then please do contact them ahead to make sure they're on the menu on the day that you visit, you can message then via their social pages:
Facebook: @LagniappeFood
Twitter: @LagniappeFood
or you can call them on: 07810 274744
or email them: enquiries@lagniappe-food.co.uk
A very special thank you to Mariana, who warmly welcomed us, was very hospitable and graciously allowed us a privileged glimpse into her kitchen to do the videoing - it genuinely felt like we were at home in our sisters kitchen.
In case you're wondering, Lagniappe means a small gift and in Trinidad is sometimes used to refer to the child that came way after their siblings. Jokingly, Mariana says that being 8 years younger than her sister - she's the Lagniappe...........basically a nice way of saying 'mistake child'.
It's worth noting that Trinidadian food is hugely influenced by a mish mash of cultures such as Indian, Black, Portuguese, Syrian and Chinese........

OMG!!! Fully Loaded Halloumi Cheese Fries, London Street Food by Oli Baba's in Camden Lock Market.
✓ OMG....Can you believe Chips that are actually made of Cheese!!! Not Cheesy fries.....but deep fried Halloumi Cheese Fries. Heaven on a plate!!!
For anyone who hasn’t tried Halloumi before; Halloumi is a hard and salty cheese, which when heated or fried it becomes soft on the inside and crispy on the outside (instead of simply melting).
On this busy stall in Camden Market, they cut the cheese into strips of chips and then deep fry them until golden brown .
The result is a moreish snack bursting with flavour, it's crispy on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside, the addition of the sauces, syrups and garnishing elevates the taste factor to a higher level; it's sweet, salty, tangy, zesty, minty all at the same time - it's a wonderful flavour fusion and it definitely achieves the Umami factor.
After frying, the fries are:
* Given a generous drizzle of Za’atar Yoghurt.
* A good squirt of Pomegranate Molasses Syrup.
* Sprinkled with freshly cut Mint.
* Topped off with Turkish Chilli Flakes and Pomegranate seeds.
* Chilli Oil Sauce.
This is delicious Vegetarian Meat-free Levantine restaurant quality cuisine at street food prices........You may call this the Don Dada of Street Food!!!
The founders of this stall developed this culinary delight after being inspired during a six month long trip to the Middle East.
Since being featured on Culture Trip's (@theculturetrip) website & Facebook page in May, Oli Baba now have even longer queues - rest assured that the wait is well worthwhile.
Here's links to Oli Baba's various social media:
Facebook: @olibabasfood
Twitter: @Oli_Babas
Website: olibabas.com
They are located in the KERB market section area right next to the scenic Regents Canal.
Oli Baba’s are the original creators of halloumi fries on the London Street Food scene.
Note: Some people call Halloumi Squeaky Cheese because of its texture and slightly distinctive squeak when you eat it.

Delicious Middle Eastern Street Food: Vegetarian Falafel / Hummus / Salad Wraps by Chick P London.
✓ We've just discovered this market stall going by the name Chick P, they're serving up these gorgeous pure vegetarian wraps in Primrose Hill Saturday Market, London...........please be warned, these wraps are absolutely delicious !!!
Unlike some well known (& lesser known) fast food restaurants and takeaways, there was no microwave or frozen food to be seen at this stall because thankfully everything is freshly prepared & cooked to order.
What makes the wrap such a treat is that they freshly fry the falafels (when you place your order), so that it is served piping hot within a matter of minutes; where the outside of the falafel is delightfully golden & crispy and the inside is deliciously fluffy.
There is no secret to the preparation because they make everything in full view of you.
The filling includes: Homemade Hummus, Cucumber, Tomato, Hot Pickled Baby Chillies, Pickled Gherkin, Pickled Red & White Cabbage, Falafel.
* Tahini (a sauce made with Sesame seeds, Salt, Lemon, Herbs & Spices).
* Harissa Sauce (made with Chillies & Red Peppers).
There is the option to add either (or all) of the following: Haloumi, Feta Cheese, Roasted Red Peppers (in a tangy olive oil dressing).
(To anyone wondering if cheese should go into the wrap; the question is not one we would ask because all we want to know is if its delicious & the answer to that is a definite yes). Put simply this is delicious restaurant quality food; but at street food prices!!!
Ordinarily they use either brown or white pita but on the day of our visit they were wrapping everything using plain tortilla type flatbreads (very similar to Indian roti or chapatti).
The owner Ashley developed and perfected the Falafel recipe after he went traveling around in several Middle Eastern countries trying and tasting many versions of falafel along the way.
The actual full recipe is a closely guarded secret but we are told that the:
* Falafel is made using Coriander and Cumin (as well as a few more secret spices).
* Homemade Humous is made using dried chickpeas (which have been soaked overnight & boiled down with lemon, garlic & salt).
As well as Primrose Hill Saturday Market, you can also find them trading Tuesday to Thursdays between 11:00am to 2:30pm in Central London outside: the Dutch Church, Austin Friars, EC2N 2HA

Amazing Food Stores of London. Cheese, Crocodile Meat Burgers and More Seen in Borough Market
The most stunning cheese shops ever seen, stall selling crocodile burgers, and much more. All this and much more you can see in London.
Freshly made filter coffee at the smallest coffee shop in London at Hawkers & Peddlers Manor Park.
London Street Food & Drink at Manor Park train station, London.
What a pleasant surprise to discover probably one of the smallest coffee shops in London, the UK and (perhaps) the World !!!
Guinness World Records hasn't verified or confirmed this............but do you think you can find smaller???
It's even more of an honour and pleasure to visit them on their 2nd ever day of trading.
After their many months of planning; these guys are now serving up delicious freshly ground & filtered coffee while you wait (you can even have a real conversation with these barristas unlike at other well known & lesser known high street coffee chains).
We also had their eggless homemade banana cake + their chocolate & coconut energy balls (amazeballs).......we can happily confirm that they were all genuinely moreish & yummy !!!
If you haven't done so already, perhaps, you can also discover them between the hours of 7:00am and 11:00am on the corner of Whitta Road and Station Road, (just by Manor Park TFL train station).

Marie's Cafe London Thai Food Lower Marsh Waterloo
Marie's Cafe London Thai Food, Lower Marsh Waterloo. We had dinner here, as we stayed nearby at the Premier Inn Waterloo. This place was very crowded the night before, so we came early this time, before 6pm. The food was good and inexpensive, by London's standard. We even had Pad Thai!
Freshly made Sweet Potato Crisps - British Street Food Snack by McLauchlan's, Camden Market, London
✓ There's a new crisp in town and we can confirm that it's absolutely delicious!!! We genuinely have to say that when eaten as fresh as this; thankfully, all other shop packet crisps like Golden Wonder & Walkers (with their preservatives & additives) have to finally take a back seat.
This fella is serving up handmade freshly cooked Sweet Potato Chips while you wait - there is no secret to the recipe & preparation because he makes everything in full view of you - finely slicing the sweet potato (using a Benriner Japanese Mandoline), frying them & finally offering a choice of seasoning flavours such as Rosemary, Paprika, Salt and Pepper, Peri Peri, Cinnamon & Corriander Salt,
He's so proud of his product, that entrepreneur Nicholas has lent his family name to McLauchlan's Sweet Potato Crisps.
Towards the end of this video there's a few words from the man himself; detailing a holiday in Mexico as the inspiration behind his business & mentioning why it's such a perfect product.
It's also worth mentioning that the business is environmentally friendly because he travels to & from where he is trading with everything being self contained within a customised trade-mans tricycle.
At the moment Mr McLauchlan's has taken some time off to study at university so is not trading at Camden Market; but he's told us to let you know that he is available to hire for private events, ad-hoc functions, corporate events etc.......if you have any questions you can contact him on: 07964 801 704.
