Luckenbach Texas: Visit Fredericksburg TX
First made world-famous by Waylon, Willie and the Boys almost 40-years ago in song, Luckenbach Texas is what legends are made of.
This tiny German community was first established as a trading post in 1849 and now the historic dancehall, general store and bar is a great place to sit back and enjoy live Texas music, great company and a cold one in the Hill Country.
Hi folks, I’m Daryl Whitworth, and I grew up just a few short miles from Luckenbach Texas. So close in fact, we could hear the music when Willie would hold his big Fourth of July picnic here years ago.
Today in Luckenbach Texas you’ll find the legendary dancehall – with one of the great old wooden dance floors and a fun place to two-step every weekend.
Pickers’ circles happen daily and musicians, locals and visitors alike are welcome to strum their guitar, sing along and or just relax under the 400 year old oak trees. That’s right- Luckenbach Texas is home to live music 364 days a year- everyday but Christmas Day.
There are also some one of a kind festivals here: such as the Live Free & Fly Fourth of July Festival, Luckenbach Blues Festival, and even the Hill Country Food Truck Festival, all of which feature great live music.

TRIP to Luckenbach Texas September 2019 Waylon Jennings Willie Nelson texas hill country
Luckenbach is an unincorporated community thirteen miles (19 km) from Fredericksburg in southeastern Gillespie County, Texas, United States, part of the Texas Hill Country. Luckenbach is known as a venue for country music.
Luckenbach, Texas is known primarily because of the famous song by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. For years, Willie even had his famous family picnic on the grounds at the banks of Snail Creek next to the old dance hall. ... For many Texans and Hill Country regulars, Hondo is known as a humorist and writer.
Today Luckenbach maintains a ghost-town feel with its small population and strong western aesthetic. One of its two main buildings houses the remnants of a post office, a working saloon, and a general store. The other is the dance hall. The post office was closed on April 30, 1971 and its zip code (78647) was retired. The general store remains active as a souvenir shop where visitors can purchase a variety of items, including merchandise featuring the town's motto Everybody's Somebody in Luckenbach, postcards, T-shirts, sarcastic and humorous signs, and the local newspaper.

Linwood - Luckenbach Texas
Linwood is a new band out of the Raleigh area bringing sounds of old Country, Blues, Rockabilly and Blues Rock that you just don't hear covered anymore. Looking to play all over NC. No one does an old school Nashville sound anymore. It seems like folks are afraid to fill up a night with old classic great songs. We try to bring the Nashville or other old school sound and stay true to the sounds of the original.

For those of you who have ever had a deadline the next morning, you know how it feels to pull an all-nighter. Sooner or later that night or morning, you hit the wall. Some self-medicate with coffee, Waffle House, weed, or amphetamines. In our case, we went down to the kitchen, with its great acoustics, ate some of my birthday cake, then sang some a cappella Waylon Jennings.
Helen Butt is a remarkable woman. Married for 22 years, with two sons, she is a lethal archer who loves the hunt. She is New Mexico's leading lady with that state's chapter of the National Wild Turkey Association. She writes a regular column with American Bowhunter Magazine. Plus, she sings great harmony.
Lisa Brewer is the lead camera operator for Dim Lit Studios, in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. Teamed with her husband, Alan, and son, Nick, their focus is on youth rodeos and capturing young rodeo contestants' every ride. Lisa is the perfect mom (and a real babe). Somehow, she managed to find that third harmony.
As we all worked for a week to gather all we needed to produce our final project, both Helen and Lisa brought a sense of calm and optimism to our 11 member team. It was an honor to be their video production mentor, teacher, and team leader.
It's rude, crude, hand-held, and raw. Enjoy!

Jimmy Lee Jones. Luckenbach, Texas
Luckenbach, Texas
Driving around Luckenbach, Texas
Luckenbach (/ˈluːkɪnbɑːk/ LOO-kin-bahk) is an unincorporated community thirteen miles (19 km) from Fredericksburg in southeastern Gillespie County, Texas, United States, part of the Texas Hill Country. Luckenbach is known as a venue for country music.
Luckenbach's association with country music began in the summer of 1973 when Jerry Jeff Walker, backed by the Lost Gonzo Band, recorded the live album Viva Terlingua at the Luckenbach dance hall. The album became an outlaw country classic.
In 1977, after Crouch's death in 1976, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson vaulted Luckenbach in the national spotlight with the #1 country and #25 Pop charting song Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love). In his 2000 book Are You Ready for the Country?, author Peter Doggett recalls that Jennings later told audiences that he hated the song and (had) admitted 'The guys that wrote the thing have never been to Luckenbach. The locals hated the song after a while, mainly because it had nothing to do with Luckenbach at all. Jennings' only show in Luckenbach happened on July 4, 1996 at the annual Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic although the set was reportedly[weasel words] marred when he had a near miss with a half full tallboy of Lonestar beer thrown from the crowd.
Between 1995 and 1999 Luckenbach hosted Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic after several years of skipped or irregular Picnic gatherings. Beau Burton, a regular performer in several acts that performed in music events during the 1990s, began a musical partnership with the singing bar tender Jimmy Lee Jones. While acting as band manager/drummer Beau developed a relationship with a Willie manager, Larry Trader. Prior to the first picnic, Beau and Jimmy used all their resources to persuade Mr. Nelson to bring his picnic to Luckenbach. Beau leaned hard to promote the bach, as the locals called it, creating videos from the first picnic, lobbying every year to bring a full video crew for the whole show. In 1998 Broadcast.com provided the satellite link then streamed a massive video production all over the world, via the World Wide Web. Over 30 acts performed that year. The actual show producer was Jack Yoder a music support and tour manager that worked for decades with lots of named big acts, including Bob Dylan.
