Krakow Bike Tour
While in Poland we decided to take the Krakow Bike Tour. We were lucky enough to have a knowledgable and passionate guide by the name of Matthew who gave us a fantastic tour of the city and main sites. Even though it rained most of the ride, it was one of the best experiences of the entire trip. Highly recommended!

Polish regional news openings - February 2018
The third channel of the Polish public TV TVP is based on the its 16 regional departments, each for one of the Polish voivodeships. The TVP3 channel consists of common broadcasts for all the regions as well as 5.5 hours of regional opt-outs each day (currently: 7:00-8:00 on working days or 10:00-11:00 on weekends + 17:30-22:00).
During those opt-outs, at 18:30, each regional department broadcasts its own news bulletin dedicated to the local affairs. An exception is the department in Warsaw, which broadcasts two bulletins: Kurier Mazowiecki at 18:00 for the affairs of the region and Telewizyjny Kurier Warszawski at 18:30 for the affairs of the capital city. Those bulletins differ quite a lot between each other - in terms of the title, the form, the duration and the graphical design.
The bulletins:
- 00:02 - Obiektyw (Białystok)
- 01:38 - Zbliżenia (Bydgoszcz)
- 05:16 - Panorama (Gdańsk)
- 06:38 - Informacje Lubuskie (Gorzów Wielkopolski)
- 08:08 - Aktualności (Katowice)
- 10:49 - Informacje (Kielce)
- 12:21 - Kronika (Kraków)
- 14:04 - Panorama Lubelska (Lublin)
- 15:14 - Łódzkie Wiadomości Dnia (Łódź)
- 16:44 - Informacje (Olsztyn)
- 19:02 - Kurier Opolski (Opole)
- 21:09 - Teleskop (Poznań)
- 22:29 - Aktualności (Rzeszów)
- 23:42 - Kronika (Szczecin)
- 24:40 - Kurier Mazowiecki (Warszawa - the region)

- 27:59 - Fakty (Wrocław)
Amsterdam
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | Amsterdam — Europe's best-preserved 17th-century city — is simultaneously quaint and jarring, traditional and modern. Filled with history and still happy-go-lucky, it's a delight to explore. Uniquely entertaining Amsterdam shows off its Rembrandts and Van Goghs, more bikes than cars, flirting prostitutes, and pot-filled coffeeshops — all under tall, skinny facades leaning out over placid canals.

Katyń [1080p] [pl, ru, en, fr, bg, vi, el, es, nl, pt, ro, sr, sl, tr, fi, hr, cs subtitles]
When the Soviet Union on 17 September 1939 invades Poland, Anna Aleksandrowna leaves her home in Krakow to search for her husband, the Polish captain Andrzej. She finds him together with other officers captured by the Red Army, but some minutes later he is pushed into a train, which will take all the Polish officers to a prison camp in Kozelsk in Russia. Anna and her daughter Nika is now stuck in the Soviet occupied zone, unable to go back to Krakow in the German zone, not until a brave Russian captain helps them to flee. 3 April 1940 Andrzej is transported from the prison camp in Kozelsk to the Katyn Forest, where thousands of Polish officers are killed. In 1943 the Germans capture this area and find the mass graves. 13 April 1943 they start announcing the names of the identified corpses through loudspeakers in Krakow. Anna is happy that Andrzej is not in any of the Katyn lists, which gives her some hope. 18 January 1945 the Red Army liberates Krakow from the Nazis. The Russians start blaming the Katyn Massacre on the Germans, proclaiming that it happened in 1941 instead of 1940. Everybody knows that this isn't true, but those who refuse to accept the Soviet version are imprisoned or killed by the Red Army.

Copenhagen
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | As we get to know Copenhagen, we'll discover reminders of its Viking history and see reflections today of its proudly independent ways. We'll stroll down Europe's first great pedestrian boulevard, ogle crown jewels in the palace treasury, and take a bike ride through an inspirational hippie squatter community, finishing at Copenhagen's full-time carnival, Tivoli Gardens.

To Central Asia by Bicycle - #30 How to get a cheap driving licence and cross Georgia in one day
Together with Keti and here friends we visit the area around Kvareli and the little town of Gremi.
Gremi was the capital of the Kingdom of Kakheti, which was founded by king Levan, in the 16th and 17th century. The town existed for only 150 years. In 1616 it was plundered and destroyed by the army of Shah Abbas. In the middle of the 17th century, they moved the capital to the nearby Telavi.
The next day we hitchhike to Batumi, despite the rainy weather. We need to go there, because our visas to Iran are waiting there for us to pick them up.
We get a ride from Tbilisi do Gori with a group of Polish. They happen to be going to take their driving exam. They tell us the exam costs just €18, and it's another €24 to exchange it to a Polish one later. So if anyone wants to save money, you can learn how to do that in this video

Julia Hartwig - Escape from the Gestapo (14/100)
To listen to more of Julia Hartwig’s stories, go to the playlist:
Julia Hartwig (1921-2017) was a Polish poet, essayist, translator and author of children's books. She studied at universities in Warsaw, Lublin and Kraków. Czesław Miłosz called her 'the grande dame of Polish poetry'. [Listener: Andrzej Wolski; date recorded: 2010]
TRANSCRIPT: My stay in... I didn't take part in the Warsaw Uprising because I wasn't in Warsaw then. I'll tell you why in a moment. I had moved out of that sad little room to a normal room on Hoża which my brother had rented when he saw what wretched the conditions I was living in, and when he saw a spoon lying in a pan of dry buckwheat, he became so angry that he said, 'From now on, you're going to be eating your dinner with us' which I accepted very... very willingly, with a great deal of pleasure. He had two small daughters who were very sweet, and a wife. During the occupation, he continued to practice, of course. But there came a moment after I'd been studying for about a year-and-a-half when I returned to my room – which I was renting from the landlady who never communicated with me as she knew that these meetings had been arranged for certain times – and that Professor Kotarbiński would show up. She knew that I'd asked for the door to be kept ajar, she understood that when that group of five people arrived at a given time... it was forbidden to hold meetings so we were already liable for punishment or could potentially be punished. That day when I came back from being out, this lady said to me, 'I'm afraid you're going to have to go away because the Gestapo have been here asking about you'. I never understood how the Gestapo could have... could have known anything about me because I'd never been caught. But I remembered something later, that I'd sent something to Lublin; I'd been asked to do that because that's where I'd done a kind of nursing course which was being run during the occupation so that we'd be prepared in case of war. So then I, of course, only took my documents with me and left straight away because I thought that someone either might be outside the house or that they might come back thinking that I'd return to the house. I don't know what happened there afterwards because I never saw that lady I'd been lodging with again, but I decided that I couldn't stay in Lublin any longer because I thought if they have anything on me, they'll know that Lublin is my home town and that my family was there and that I could try taking refuge with them, so the friendship with Anna Kamieńska really paid off in that difficult period. She invited me to stay in the Świdnik forestry facilities which wasn't far from Lublin – about 20 kilometres, I think, perhaps a bit more – and that's where I stayed with her. It was large... these facilities are always large, there are always rooms there to hide in and this was where we stayed until suddenly, we saw wandering through the garden, with his rifle pointing down, a ragged soldier, and it turned out that some of those Russians who had finally just entered the city after waiting in Praga had turned up there. We realised then that it was time to go back to Lublin. We returned on foot because there was no other way to get back. It probably wasn't a safe road to be on because we were overtaken by units of German soldiers but nobody took any notice of us. Besides, a sense of fear isn't as strongly developed in young people; I think it develops much later on. In Lublin, I found the city in a terrible state. At that time, everyone who'd been arrested by the Germans was being held in the castle. They were mostly activists of the underground movement, and when we came into the city, a massacre was being carried out, or rather, had just been carried out. Before moving out, the Germans had been hiding in the cellars, and some of them had come out but first, they had murdered everyone who was being held in the castle, so blood was literally pouring in the streets. I remember that my brother was summoned to take photographs, and I remember that when he came back, he was in a very bad way after seeing those images.
