North bound I71 & I75 split at the end of the Brent Spence Bridge from Covington Kentucky into Cincinnati. We travel east along Fort Washington Way and stay east past One Lytle Apartments, getting onto South I471 across the Daniel Beard (Big Mac) bridge.
Same-sex marriage cases go before federal court in Cincinnati
CINCINNATI (WKRC/AP) -- Six landmark court cases dealing with the legality of same-sex marriage in four states are going before a federal appeals court in Cincinnati Wednesday.
Attorneys for both sides are presenting arguments for cases from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Tennessee. Michigan's and Kentucky's cases stem from rulings striking down each state's gay marriage bans. Ohio's case deals only with the state's recognition of out-of-state gay marriages, while Tennessee's is narrowly focused on the rights of three same-sex couples.
Attorneys on both sides in the Michigan and Ohio cases will go first and get a half-hour each to make their cases. Kentucky and Tennessee will follow, with 15 minutes for each side from both states.
Supporters of marriage equality are rallying on Fountain Square. It's the third rally in just the past few days. Hundreds turned out Tuesday night at Lytle Park. A commitment ceremony follows Wednesday's rally. A dozen same-sex couples will symbolically wed. They're then marching to the federal courthouse.
Same-sex marriage supporters say they're buoyed by the 10th Circuit Court opinion overturning Utah's ban on same-sex marriage. Opponents point to opinion polls which they say show many people remain opposed to same-sex marriage.
Since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act last year, gay marriage advocates have won more than 20 victories in federal courts. No decision has gone the other way in that time. Both sides will be watching the Sixth Circuit Court very closely.

The Dayton Canoe Club is one of just a few active canoe clubhouses left in the United States.During the late 1800's to the 1930's, canoe clubs were a common form of recreation in river front city's like Dayton, Ohio. Most have been destroyed. The Dayton Canoe Club remians much as it was in 1913. Canoeing was an especially popular pastime. In the early days, pillow-lined and victrola-laden canoes offered romantic interludes before the day of the automobile, and canoe competitions attracted large and enthusiastic crowds. At one time, five canoe clubs dotted the banks of the Great Miami and Stillwater Rivers. The last of these was the Dayton Canoe Club, founded in 1913. For many years, the annual Four of July Regatta drew over 30,000 spectators along Riverside Drive. Canoeing on the river, sporting events at McKinley Park, dances at Triangle Park, and swimming and boating at Island Park created shared recreational experiences which tightened community bonds and gave residents a rich heritage of lifelong memories.
