Kristiansand Cannon Museum, now referred to as Møvik Fort is a museum in Kristiansand.
The museum has collected authentic equipment from a former military installation.
Møvik Fortress was constructed between 1941 and 1944 by the German navy during World War II, and was originally named Batterie Vara.
Together with four other coastal batteries, it formed a part of the Kristiansand Artillery Group. Together with its sister battery at Hansthol, Denmark,
Møvik Fort was built to obstruct Allied naval forces by blocking the Skagerrak strait and the seaways to Eastern Norway. The parts of Skagerrak which weren't blocked, were mined.
After the war, the Norwegian Armed Forces named it Møvik fort.
For a few years after the war, Møvik fort was an operating Norwegian fortress. In 1953 it became part of Kristiansand fortress. On April 20, 1959 the fort was closed and two of the guns and the foundations of the fourth were scrapped.
The fortress had four gun positions, of which one of the guns is still intact. There are empty gun emplacements and an empty casemate.
The 38 cm calibre gun is one of the largest in the world; the barrel alone weighs 110 tons, measures almost 20 meters in length, and has a range of up to 55 km (34 miles).

Kristiansand Kanonmuseum to muzeum znajdujące się w Møvik, 8 kilometrów na zachód od Kristiansand w Norwegii. Placówka znajduje się w budynkach niemieckiej baterii obrony Skagerraku.
Bateria artylerii nadbrzeżnej Batterie Vara (MAB 6./502 Vara) została wybudowana przez niemiecki Wehrmacht podczas drugiej wojny światowej. Została nazwana na pamiątkę generała Feliksa Vary, który zginął u wybrzeży Alderney na kanale La Manche 3 listopada 1941. Po wojnie Norwegowie zmienili nazwę na fort Møvik.

Fragment cieśniny, który nie był pokryty zasięgiem armat został zaminowany.
Budowa Batterie Vara przez Organizację Todt
Decyzję o strategii budowy bariery chroniącej Bałtyk Adolf Hitler podjął w maju 1940. Rok później zamontowano dwie armaty w Hanstholm oraz rozpoczęto przygotowania do budowy schronów po stronie norweskiej.
Przez kilka lat po II wojnie światowej fort Møvik działał jako forteca norweska. w 1953 stał się częścią fortecy Kristiansand. 20 kwietnia 1959 fort zamknięto, a dwie z armat oraz ich fundamenty zniszczono.
W fortecy znajdowały się cztery stanowiska przeznaczone dla armat, z których jedna istnieje do dziś. Zachowały się również stanowiska do montażu armat oraz pusta kazamata. Armata kalibru 380 mm jest jedną z największych na świecie, której sama lufa waży 110 ton i mierzy niemal 20 m. Zasięg armaty wynosi 55 km. W muzeum utworzono szlak forteczny opowiadający o życiu codziennym fortecy oraz ważnych wydarzeniach militarnych w historii Norwegii. Zachowały się również niektóre z 16 stanowisk obrony fortu .
Na przełomie lat 80. i 90. XX wieku placówka przeszła renowację dzięki staraniom sił zbrojnych Norwegii oraz powołanej do kierowania muzeum fundacji. Działo fortowe jest drugą z największych istniejących armat na świecie

Kristiansand Cannon Museum. this was very cool to see. a fully equipped bunker with a real cannon on top. you can get a guided tour but you can also just walk around yourself. there is a lot of information to read. and you get a good picture of what has happened here. in the summer a train that goes from bunker to bunker. these were then used to bring ammunition, from bunker to bunker. very impressive.

Batterie Vara / Møvik Fort
Welcome to the Kristiansand Cannon Museum, the Vara Battery. Here you will find the world's second larges cannon ever to be mounted on land. The reason why these gigantic cannons came to Møvik was that on the occupation of Norway and Denmark in 1940 the Germans needed to guard the shipping lanes of the Skagerak. 38 cm cannons were planned here at Møvik and across the shortest distance over the Skagerak to Hanstholm in Denmark, some 116 km away.

Møvik Fort
The coastal artillery fortress was named Batterie Vara (MAB 6./502 Vara) by the Germans, when it was built by the German Wehrmacht during World War II. It was named after Major General Felix Vara, who was killed off Alderney in the English channel on 3 November 1941. After the war, the Norwegian Defence named it Møvik fort.
The fort was constructed between 1941 and 1944 by the German navy. Together with four other coastal batteries, it formed a part of the Kristiansand Artillery Group. Together with its sister battery at Hanstholm in Denmark, Møvik Fort was built to obstruct Allied naval forces by blocking the Skagerrak strait and the seaways to Eastern Norway, the Kattegatt Bay, the Baltic Sea and the Baltic region for the allied naval forces. Only a field, ten nautical miles wide, in the Skagerrak could not be covered by the guns of these facilities. This field was therefore mined.
Adolf Hitler worked personally for the barrier strategy and the decision about the fortress in Hanstholm was made in May 1940. In May 1941, two of the guns in Hanstholm were in place and on the Norwegian side preparatory work started.
For a few years after the war, Møvik fort was an operating Norwegian fortress. In 1953 it became part of Kristiansand fortress. On April 20, 1959 the fort was closed and two of the guns and the foundations of the fourth were scrapped

En av verdens største kanoner på land finnes på Møvik fort ved Kristiansand.Tyskerne anla fortet i 1941-1944. Exploring the fifth of a total of six of these underground infantry bunkers at Batterie Vara.
These were built to house the infantry troops which defended the WWII german coastal artillery, now better known as Møvik Fort, from attack from the west. All of these 6 bunkers are principally alike. One entrance at each end with a set of tunnels leading into the inner livving area. Unlike most WWII bunkers in this area these are not just caves cut into the stone, but are for the most part lined with bricked walls and painted on the inside.
The bunkers are located just south of Kristiansand in Norway.

The fortress is located just southwest of the town Kristiansand in the southern parts of Norway.
