Universal Data, MACAM Biennale 2019, Lebanon
With all the possibilities that access to Universal Data offers, Hartel has connected with musicians, artists, technicians and archivists of Beirut to cooperate in this project. The video-music performance focuses on exploring the ways in which people, nature, and objects interact with one another to form a complex whole that operates as a system. Drawing upon the notion of our permanent interconnectedness, her working process was entirely happening on site. Videomapping, performance, costume and music as well as the technical realization were developed during her 2 weeks artist residency in Lebanon. She live performed at the opening of the MACAM Biennale 2019, inspired by the architecture of the old lime factory next to MACAM in which her video installation was embedded. The documentation of the performance and installation is part of the Universal Data exhibition at MACAM in Aalita/Byblos.

Ghassan Saba-Artist & Industrial Designer
Ghassan Christo Saba was born in Tripoli, Lebanon in 1963.
Saba works mainly with metal, especially steel; It is considered as his main inspirational medium, mixing it with others such as wood, concrete, glass etc. He tries to focus on the potential of this raw material and spotting the light on the value of its imperfections in welding, folding, cutting etc.
Saba is obsessed with mechanics, and is always trying to unveil the inner functional mechanisms in all his work -from furniture design to small and large installations. He has worked on several personal and residential commissioned projects, and has participated in many competitions in Lebanon before building up a great relationship with the MACAM-Modern and Contemporary Art Museum in Alita, Jbeil. This is where he won the Age of Iron competition in 2015, and where he has two permanent installations.

Jocelyne Saab.
Jocelyne Saab. A filmmaker and artist against the tide
Jocelyne Saab is not only a filmmaker. Since 2006, she also displays talents as a plastic artist. She started her activity with a monumental art installation called Strange Games and Bridges exhibited in the National Museum of Singapore in 2006, and pursuied her need to make images differently by producing in 2007 her first series of photographs, then by making art videos.
This exhibition presents for the first time a retrospective of Jocelyne Saab's plastic works.
