Mall of America: Minneapolis Metro Blue Line
The biggest mall in the United States lies in the Twin City of Minneapolis. Or should I say, a little outside it. To get from downtown to the mall, Metro operates the light-rail blue line. The station is actually in one of the mall's parking lots. I tour you around the mall first before heading into the station to film a couple of trams.

Minneapolis Light Rail: Blue and Green Lines
(August 2018) Minneapolis's Metro Transit has two light rail lines: The green line and the blue Line. The blue line goes from downtown Minneapolis to Mall of America, and the green line goes from downtown Minneapolis to downtown St. Paul.
There are two types of LRV that run on this system: Bombardier Flexity Swift and Siemens S70.
This video shows the vehicles in action, how to pay for your fare, and a ride on each line and LRV.

Metro is a high-capacity transport network serving the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. As of 2016, the system consists of two light rail lines (the Blue and Green Lines, operated by Metro Transit), along with the Red Line, a bus rapid transit extension of the Blue Line operated by the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority. The three lines connect Downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul with Bloomington and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, with several extensions in the planning stages.
Service along the entire length of the Green Line operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, a rarity among light rail lines in the United States, but present on some heavy rail lines such as the New York City Subway and PATH. Metro Transit also provides 24/7 service between the stations serving the Lindbergh and Humphrey terminals of MSP Airport.
Type I LRVs were manufactured by Bombardier Transportation, in its Flexity Swift design, utilizing a low floor for accessible boarding at all stations. Metro Transit operates 27 vehicles on the lines, numbered 101 through 127. Initially painted with Metro Transit livery, all have been repainted as of 2015 to reflect the Metro system branding. During this time, Type I cars also were retrofitted with colored LCD headboards for route destination displays and other improvements.
Type II LRVs are manufactured by Siemens in their S70/Avanto model. 59 vehicles have been ordered, primarily to serve the Green Line. Type II LRVs are mechanically, but not electronically, compatible with the current fleet of 27 type I vehicles, so while the two generations do run on the tracks at the same time and both types are able to push a malfunctioning unit of the other type, multiple-unit consists may only be assembled of one type. ~Wikipedia

MetroTransit Blue Line LRT | Railfanning Minneapolis Light Rail

Had a fun day Saturday railfanning the Blue Line in Minneapolis. On top of that, there was also a home Vikings and Twins game, so we got to witness both operations go through the system. I was joined by Josh (MetroSignal). We also rode the NorthStar train, but I didn't get much for video from that trip. If you would like me to do a second video, let me know in the comments!

Twin Cities METRO Blue Line Doors Closing Chime
This is the warning chime you hear when the door is about to close in your face on the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) METRO Blue Line. This video was shot at the VA Medical Center station on a northbound train.
Notes:
- In real life the chime is actually louder than in the video. The train was very crowded and I was shooting from behind a pole, so the mic was partially obstructed. Hopefully I'll get a better quality one next time I ride it.
- This is of the Siemens S70 trains (the 200 series), the Bombardier Flexity Swift (100 series) trains have a different warning.

METRO Blue Line Extension
Narrated flyover visualization of the METRO Blue Line Extension route. The flyover begins at Oak Grove Parkway in Brooklyn Park and follows the light rail route through Brooklyn Park, Crystal, Robbinsdale, Golden Valley, and Minneapolis.
Riding the A Line (Minneapolis/St. Paul BRT) on opening day
The Twin Cities got a new bus line (the A Line) on June 11th. There's only one thing to do: ride it! The line was free on opening day and yet I saw people trying to tag in and pay the fare anyway...
The A Line is a new bus rapid transit line that will eventually be a part of a network of BRT lines that run through major streets in Minneapolis and Saint Paul. It works a lot like the light rail, except it doesn't stop at all of the stations - only when it needs to (if people are waiting for the bus, or if someone wants to get off they can push a stop request button).

The Northstar Line is a commuter rail route in the US state of Minnesota. Northstar runs 40 miles from Big Lake to downtown Minneapolis at Target Field using existing track and right-of-way owned by the BNSF Railway. Passenger service began on November 16, 2009.
The Metro Blue Line is a 12-mile light rail line in Hennepin County, Minnesota that extends from downtown Minneapolis to the southern suburb of Bloomington. The line was originally named after Hiawatha Avenue which runs parallel to a good portion of the line.
The Mall of America is a shopping mall located in Bloomington, Minnesota, a suburb of the Twin Cities in Minnesota, United States.
