Maastricht - Healthiest Bread of the Netherlands | What's cookin'
In a centuries old water mill, master baker Frank van Erd is bubbling with new ideas of how to make his bread even tastier and even healthier. He goes to bakers and brew master all over the region to source the best grains and discuss new recipes. He wants to inspire everyone with his passion for good, healthy food and runs baking workshops for school classes in the ancient mill. The children learn how to make vlaai - the Maastricht fruitcake. Meanwhile his wife Diana makes sure the bakery runs smoothly and enjoys the local cuisine too. Bacon and apple pancakes are one of her specialities, as well as the Maastricht version of Boeuf Bourgignon - Meestrichter Zuurvlees.
What's cookin' is about traditional culinary recipes from different European regions.

Roda-Gigante em Maastricht - Holanda!
Maastricht ([maːˈstʁɪçt] (southern Dutch) or [maːˈstɾɪxt] ( listen) (northern); Limburgish (incl. Maastrichtian) Mestreech [məˈstʁeːç]; French Maëstricht (archaic); Spanish Mastrique (archaic)) is a city in the Netherlands. It is located in the southern part of the Dutch province of Limburg, of which it is the capital.
Maastricht developed from a Roman settlement to a religious centre, a garrison city and an early industrial city. Nowadays, it is known as a city of history, culture, local folklore and education. Furthermore, it has become known, by way of the Maastricht Treaty, as the birthplace of the European Union, European citizenship, and the single European currency, the euro. The town is popular with tourists for shopping and recreation, and has a large growing international student population. Maastricht is a member of the Most Ancient European Towns Network and is part of the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion, which includes nearby cities Aachen, Eupen, Hasselt, Liège and Tongeren.
Maastricht is situated on both sides of the Meuse river (Dutch: Maas) in the south-eastern part of the Netherlands, on the Belgian border (with both the Dutch-speaking Flemish and French-speaking Walloon region within easy reach from the city centre) and near the German border.

Thank You Canada - Dutch Liberation Parade and Festival
“CANADA AND THE NETHERLANDS: TWO COUNTRIES-ONE SPIRIT 1945-2015”
TORONTO, ONTARIO ( 23/04/2015)
During the month of May we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and thank the Canadian Armed Forces for their contribution to the freedom of the Dutch people. Because of Canada’s invaluable role in the liberation of the Netherlands, a close friendship between the two countries remains seventy years later. To show our appreciation and to honour the veterans who served during the Second World War, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, together with Dutch-Canadian community organizations, presents the ‘Thank You Canada’ Dutch Liberation Festival on Saturday May 2nd at City Hall on Nathan Phillips Square and a Military Parade that will make its way through downtown Toronto.
At 12pm our parade with over 250 participants including veterans, war brides, military bands and authentic WWII military vehicles will depart from Moss Park Armoury (130 Queen Street East) and will ride north on Jarvis Street, west on Carlton Street, turn south on Yonge Street, then west on Queen Street East to Nathan Phillips Square at City Hall. Do you want to see an authentic Sherman tank ride past Dundas Square? Come and watch the parade!
At 2:00 pm, Opening Ceremonies will kick off the festivities at Nathan Phillips Square with a few words by the Consul-General of the Netherlands and the Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. The Dutch flag will be raised, a minute of silence will be observed, and the Dutch and Canadian National Anthems will be played. Several bands will provide musical entertainment on the main stage, such as the Toronto All Star Big Band, the Weston Silver Band and the déVah Quartet. In the Veterans’ Hospitality area you can meet and thank a veteran. You can purchase Dutch goods at the Dutch market, play old-fashioned Dutch games at the Kids' Zone…and much more! We also have a beer garden with a terrace so you can enjoy the festival while having a brew. The festival will end 6:00 pm.
Come celebrate with the Dutch and don’t forget to wear a touch of orange!
