My name is Jay, I live in England, UK. On my travels I'm joined by my good lady, Bronte (most of the time), my Dad (some of the time) our wider family occassionally and my dog when not travelling overseas.
What's This Channel About: It started as a travel diary, as a way to share our experiences with our friends and family. A wider audience took an interest in my videos and things just grew from there.
Why We Love To Travel: As a young adult I was always too busy working to take vacations. My mindset was fixed on building a successful business and this was always justified by telling myself that I'd travel once I'd made my fortunes. By the time I was 30 years old I'd only been on two overseas vacations and did not think I was missing out. Roll forward to 2015, Bronte finally convinced me to book a stay at an all inclusive resort in Fuerteventura. It was an amazing experience and I was instantly bitten by the travel bug and now want to see loads of different places and travel as much as we can.
How frequently Do you Travel : As frequently as possible, currently around seven times per year. We have committments at home meaning we need to fit our travel plans in around everyday life.
Why Are We Not On Camera: These videos are about the places, adventures, experiences and destinations. The videos are not about me / us - I'm not a TV presenter and I have absolutely not desire to be in front of the camera. Whilst not adverse to being on camera it's just not what our videos are about at the moment.
What's in our kitbag: Canon SX540, Canon SX510, various GoPro cameras including the Hero 3 and the Hero 4 Black plus a Nextbase Dashcam and Samsung and Apple cameraphones.
Our Favorite Places 2 Go Travel: Canary Islands, especially Lanzarote & Fuerteventura are big favourites with us because of the near year round sun and relaxing vibes.

A three million piece recreation of the Bayeux Tapestry arrived in the UK, Friday, as it was on display to the press in Hastings gallery. The replica of the famous medieval tapestry came all the way from New Zealand and is set to go on tour around the United Kingdom.

Hastings Old Town is an area in Hastings, England roughly corresponding to the extent of the town prior to the nineteenth century. It lies mainly within the eastern-most valley of the current town. The shingle beach known as The Stade (the old Saxon term meaning landing place) is home to the biggest beach-launched fishing fleet in Britain. Many events take place every year in the old town such as the Hastings Old Town Week, Jack In The Green, the Seafood and Wine Festival, and the Bonfire Procession. Many of these events are centred on Winkle Island, which is also the gathering place of the Winkle Club.
The ruins we can see today are the remains of a stone fortress (built after William of Normandy's coronation) which was practically impregnable from three sides. Less than half of the original structure remains.
During September 1066, William the Conqueror landed at Pevensey and ordered the construction of a prefabricated wooden castle. He then moved on to Hastings and erected another.
Hastings Castle was originally a wooden tower built on top of a man made mound or motte, which was surrounded by an outer courtyard or bailey. The bailey was enclosed by a wooden palisade. The Norman motte and bailey castle would become a common fixture across England following the conquest.
After the victory at the Battle of Hastings, William was crowned on Christmas Day 1066, and had issued orders that Hastings Castle was to be rebuilt in stone.

Hastings Castle & 1066 Story! William the Conqueror, Normandy and England!
The ruins we can see today are the remains of a stone fortress (built after William of Normandy's coronation) which was practically impregnable from three sides. Less than half of the original structure remains.
During September 1066, William the Conqueror landed at Pevensey and ordered the construction of a prefabricated wooden castle. He then moved on to Hastings and erected another.
Hastings Castle was originally a wooden tower built on top of a man made mound or motte, which was surrounded by an outer courtyard or bailey. The bailey was enclosed by a wooden palisade. The Norman motte and bailey castle would become a common fixture across England following the conquest.
After the victory at the Battle of Hastings, William was crowned on Christmas Day 1066, and had issued orders that Hastings Castle was to be rebuilt in stone.
William left the castle in the charge of one of his top commanders Humphrey de Tilleul. Around 1069, he gave the castle and the town of Hastings to Robert, Count of Eu, who founded the Collegiate Church of St Mary in the Castle within the castle walls. The remains of this church are the best-preserved part of the ruins.
In 1094 William the Conqueror's son King William Rufus stayed at the castle and during the reign of Henry II much building work was carried out. However, in 1216 King John feared invasion from France and ordered the castle to be dismantled, rather than fall into French hands.
It was restored and rearmed by Henry III in 1225 and later dismantled in the reign of Edward II. In 1272 the Collegiate Church became the King's Free Chapel of Hastings and its Chapel of the Holy Cross became a place of pilgrimage.
The savage storms of the 13th century brought chaos to Hastings. The harbour was destroyed and large parts of the castle fell into the sea. The destruction of the harbour meant the port of Hastings had no further military importance, the town declined into a fishing village and the castle fell into decay.
Henry VIII finally dissolved St Mary in the Castle at the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century. In 1591 the ruins became the property of the Pelham family and for centuries the site was used for farming.
In 1824 the 6th Earl of Chichester, Thomas Pelham carried out a full excavation of the castle and during Victorian times it became a tourist attraction. During World War II, an anti-aircraft gun was placed alongside the castle and the steep cliffs were used as a training area for commandos. In 1951 the Pelham family sold the castle to the Hastings Corporation for £3,000.
In 1966 a plaque was unveiled commemorating the Battle of Hastings and on October 14 each year a replica of William's flag, the Gonfalon, is flown from the castle. A popular attraction at the castle today is The 1066 Story - a 16 minute sound and light presentation on the history of the castle and the battle.

On Saturday, October 14, 1066, England’s last Anglo-Saxon king, Harold, tried and failed to hold the line against the invading Normans in what has arguably become the most famous battle in English history, the Battle of Hastings. A victorious William, Duke of Normandy, seized the throne, beginning the Norman conquest of England which would change its landscape, culture and language forever.

A BIT OF HISTORY ON HASTINGS
Hastings began as a Saxon settlement. It was called Haesta ingas, which means Haesta's people. By the 10th century Hastings had grown into a little market town. It even had its own mint. In 1339 The French burn Hastings and in 1377 The French burn Hastings again but the town soon recovers and in 1563 the Plague strikes Hastings In the 16th century and 17th century Hastings slowly grew. In 1589 Queen Elizabeth granted Hastings a charter (a document granting the townspeople certain rights). Hastings gained a corporation and a mayor.During the Second World War Hastings was bombed several times and 154 people were killed. Over 15,000 buildings were destroyed or damaged.In 1339 The French burn Hastings and in 1377 The French burn Hastings again but the town soon recovers and in 1563 the Plague strikes Hastings. The plague killed an estimated 25 million people, almost a third of the continent’s population. The Black Death lingered on for centuries, particularly in cities. Outbreaks included the Great Plague of London (1665-66), in which 70,000 died. caves and smugglers tunneks have been used for many things over time and even untill this day caves in Hastings are still very much in use as museums, tourist attractions and storage units . Firstly, this is a terrible video. Made myself in 1993, not only is it bad it is quite egotistical as I featured myself far too much.
There are as many slams as there is makes, though I promise we did improve… daily in fact.
Now that all being said this is RAD snapshot of History of one of the raddest places/environments I’ve ever been too/apart off.

An audio history of Hastings, Sussex, UK.
I worked at Hastings College of Arts and Tech or 15 years and spent the last few years helping to teach special needs children, so I had plenty of time to access the library and to sit in my spare time doing research, writing and compiling the script for these two works was very interesting indeed. I also made two video history films the run time of each was about 45 to 60 minutes one on Hastings and one on St.Leonards which I shall put up on you Tube in due course, I hope you enjoy this but please excuse the microphone popping as my equipment then was not as modern as what I have now so rather than re work it I decided to put the original recording out.
