Quick Trip to Madh Island - Madh Fort & Kileshwar Mahadev Temple
We walked the length and breadth of Madh Island and explored the Kileshwar Mahadev Temple and Madh Fort. Here are some details that will help you in planning a trip to Madh Island.
How to reach: Madh Island is easily accessible by road. You can take a bus from Malad Station that will drop you straight to Madh Jetty. Another easier way to reach here is by taking a 5-minute ferry ride from Versova Jetty. This is quick and cheap.
What to see: Kileshwar Mahadev Temple & Madh Fort are the primary attractions. Also, there are numerous fishing villages along the way. Then there's Erangal beach & village. We highly recommend you walk and explore the place. Entry inside Madh Fort is restricted, so if you're expecting to get in and explore, then you'll be disappointed.
I think that's it. If you need any other help, let us know in the comments below.

MADH ISLAND | MALAD | MUMBAI | INDIA | HAUNTED ISLAND|
The city of dreams and struggle – a home to millionaires and homeless – a place that sizzles with dramatic and versatile Indian film industry, fashion glitterati, blazing nightlife and the country’s financial dominion. Challenges, opportunities, struggle, history, everything and more brings people to what we Indians proudly call – amchi Mumbai. Situated in this very city is an island known as Madh Island. Surprisingly, many people are not even aware of this hidden treasure but it is a home to several fishing villages and farmlands.
With the stunning Arabian Sea to its west, and Malad creek to the east, Madh Island is mainly inhabited by Kolis, East Indian Roman Catholics and Marathis. Famous for techno rave parties, the Island is ideal for those seeking escape from the mayhem and hustle – bustle of the city. But, is it a good choice for a weekend getaway? Let us discover!
Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra
Best time to go: October to June as the weather then is quite pleasant. Otherwise, the place is anyway crowded throughout the year.
How to Reach Madh Island?
Reaching Madh Island is not a challenge. It is around 30 kilometres from the main city of Mumbai via Madh – Marve Road (If stories are to be believed, this road is said to be haunted by the spirit of a bride. Scared?). You may hire an auto or a taxi to get there and it would take around 40 minutes.
Alternatively, you can go via Jogeshwari–Vikhroli Link Road (41.9 km), Borivali (17.5 km) and NH8 (33.3 km).
You may also opt for a ferry ride to Malad from Versova to reach Madh through any local transport option.
Nearby bus stop: Madh bus stop
Regular Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses ply to Madh bus stop. You can take route number 271 to Malad or 269 to Borivali to get there.
Nearest Railway station: Malad Railway Station (Western Line)
If you are travelling by Mumbai local train, get down at the Malad station and from there opt for any local transport.
Major Attractions of Madh Island:
If you badly need a break from the maddening mechanical life of a city, we suggest you rent a bungalow at Madh Island and just relax. Also, if you want to beat the stress by partying with your friends, this is again a place you may want to escape to. Yes, if you already have heard about the place, Madh surely smells like fish but after spending some time there, it is all gone.
Madh Island Beach – Though not picturesque or even clean enough to woo a traveller, a stroll along the wet sands of the beach and the sunset views are intoxicating. It is not safe for swimming due to the strong and treacherous sea currents. The beach is not well maintained, and an absolute disappointment for cleanliness freaks.
Be it the sun-dried fishes in the backgrounds, fishermen and their boats scantily bobbing in the sea and the waves gushing to kiss the shore – the view of the place is refreshing. The place will give you space to be in your own world thinking about absolutely nothing, and at the same time sharing all of itself with you so that you won’t feel alone even if you are. Also, it is a popular spot for film shooting so you never know when you get lucky to spot a superstar!
Madh Fort – Also called the Versova Fort, this Portuguese attraction is situated near the Madh Village. You may avoid the fort since it is under the control of Indian Air Force, the entry inside the fort is forbidden. Popular Bollywood movies including Love Ke Liye Kuchh Bhi Karega, Shootout at Wadala, Khalnayak, Shatranj, among many others have been shot at the fort.
Erangal Village – Located in the Madh Island and famous for its stunning Erangal beach and 500 hundred years old St. Bonaventure Church located on the stunning Erangal beach, it truly deserves a visit.
Nearby attractions: Alibaug, Aksa Beach, Dana Pani Beach
Quick Tips:
Be extra careful at the beach as the sand is sinking and there have been cases of drowning.Avoid staying at the resorts, especially if you are with family. Rent a bungalow instead for a comfortable and rejuvenating stay.If you are travelling to reach Madh Island by a jetty, we warn you of some sea sickness since you will have to fight the smell of fish all your way.Spend time with the villagers for they welcome everyone with warmth and hospitality. The Madh Island Beach is not so clean and even safe for swimming. The Retreat Hotel and The Resort Hotel are two five star hotels that offer great stay and dining options.
Till then bye .
Sada haste raho.
Aapka chahita rahul gupta with swapnil ingale and with their friends.
Be energetic
Be motivated
Be laughful
This is life.
