Buddhist monks eating at Mahar Gandar Yone Monastery - Amarapura, Myanmar
A thousand Buddhist monks and novices line up every morning, at 10 o'clock, to receive their meal of the day at Mahar Gandar Yone Monastery. This Buddhist monastery is located in Amarapura (Myanmar), 10 kilometres from Mandalay. The monastery is situated by the Taung Tha Man lake and close to the famous U Bein bridge, the longest teak bridge in the world.
Buddhist Monks are not permitted to work for wages, and so they depend on charity and donations, their food being donated by ordinary citizens as well as businesses. The daily duties of a monk include meditation, teaching (or studying), preaching and officiating religious ceremonies.

Here's a look at the main daily meal for the thousands of monks (including many young novices) at Gandaryone Monastery in the former royal capital of Amarapura, Myanmar. It was the middle of monsoon season!

Watched over by loads of tourists the Monks queue up to get their breakfast.
You will see the novices getting ready, the cooks preparing the meal, the monks queueing for their food, and finally the people from Yangon who funded and handed out this meal. Watch out for the tourist guide to the monk rules @44seconds (there are 227 rules in total). This serving was for around 1000 meals and cost EUR 1,400.
It ends with a list of donors and amounts.
It seems like the tourists outnumber the monks some days.
