Rising Tide Beer Company:
Rising Tide Brewing Company is a family-owned craft brewery located in Portland, Maine. We specialize in artisanal, hand-crafted ales brewed in small batches. Our beers are available in cans and on draft in our tasting room in Portland's East Bayside neighborhood and at select locations in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.
Liquid Riot:
The Liquid Riot Bottling Company was established on the waterfront in Portland’s Old Port, just blocks from City Hall and the location of the Portland Rum Riot, in homage to those that fought for their beverage of choice. As Maine’s first Brewery/Distillery/Resto-Bar, we take all the passion and energy of these past riots and put it into our own liquids, bottled or on tap, made fresh locally for your enjoyment.
Central Provisions:
The name Central Provisions pays homage to the original name of Dana Street and the first use of the building. Daniel Fox, who worked for the East India Trading Company, constructed a building to be used as a storehouse for provisions. This federal style brick building was erected on the corner of Fore and Central Street (now Dana Street) directly on the Wharf. The East India Trading Company’s ships would sail directly up to the building and unload their goods such as cotton, silk, indigo dye, salt, saltpeter, tea, and opium. In 1874, the East India Trade Company was dissolved. Throughout history, 414 Fore Street has served many different purposes. A wine and bitters shop named Rufus and Son’s moved into the building in 1894. They moved across the street and a barrel top and burlap bags shop moved in. After that, it was home to E. Cory who sold local blacksmiths and wood workers tools and materials.
Blue Rooster:
Hip counter serve offering creative, elevated spins on hot dogs, sandwiches & tater tots. Great food, great value; friendly, helpful staff. Best hotdogs, falafel. All good.
Taco Escobar:
Authentic Mexican cuisine, craft beer, and exciting specialty cocktails! A fun atmosphere, casual and affordable. Taco Escovar is located in 548 Congress Street.

Four Things You Must Do in Portland, Maine
Lobster Rolls, Tours, and Lighthouse Views are part of the 4 things you must do when you visit Portland, Maine. Old Port is the hubbub of Portland. You will find lobster rolls in Old Port as well as several other restaurants in Portland. You are very close to the Two Lights Lighthouse as well as the Portland Head Light Lighthouse on Cape Elizabeth in Fort Williams Park. I will share the best walking tours; I'll tell you exactly where to see the best views of Casco Bay in Portland, Maine. I cannot wait to see Portland, Maine for more than a day.
My mom and I visited Portland, Maine and had the best Lobster Roll at Bite Into Maine. I can highly recommend Scales for an on-the-dock nice restaurant. Make reservations!! We had Bite Into Maine's lobster roll twice in a 24 hour period.
You must drive past Munjoy hill to see the wide spanse of creation along the East Promenade at Fort Allen Park. No entrance; just drive along Congress and you will dead end there. Huge playground, easy parking, lots of parking spaces easy for RVs, and great paths for a brisk walk while taking in the awesome views of Casco Bay.
Take a tour-the one we used is Maine Foodie Tours, but they offer art tours as well. Check their dates because of winter temps. They have a happy hour tour, a lobster crawl lunch tour, a culinary tour, and 12 more! We saw many bus tours but not for taking in the local food.
Visit the lighthouses - Cape Elizabeth. There is the Portland Head Light and the Two Lights Lightouses. Both are a quick 15 minute drive from Old Port in Portland, Maine.
Getting around Old Port in Portland, Maine is easy to do because it's pedestrian friendly. There is a slight incline off of Commercial Street in Old Port. Stay in Old Port because, again, everything happens in Old Port. Leave me a message about other sites you found!

Lobster Heaven in Portland, Maine — VR 360 video
This summer, I headed to the land of lobster, Portland Maine, to find out how my favorite food goes from the bottom of the ocean to my tabletop. Lucky for me, I made it just in time for New Shell Lobster Season—Portland’s best kept secret—which typically runs from June to mid-fall.
If you live outside of Maine, chances are the surf served beside your turf is actually hard shell lobster (and it’s friggin delicious). But ask any New Englander and they will tell you that new shell lobster actually tastes sweeter and juicier.
This is because lobsters shed their shell almost every year, and as they grow into their new shells, there’s room for the ocean water to penetrate and tenderize the meat. It’s as if the lobster is marinating in fresh ocean water.
Visitors to Portland can do a side-by-side comparison of both new shell and hard shell lobster at The Clam Shack, which straddles the Kennebunk River in nearby Kennebunkport. The Clam Shack is famous for its lobster rolls, which are assembled from saltwater-boiled, one-pound lobsters on a fresh baked roll. (The fried haddock here is the true standout in my book, so try to save some room.)
In Portland, even the salads are packed with lobster, and Scales restaurant does not hold back. Its dressed lobster tail salad is served on a bed of frisee, alongside chunks of grapefruit and crispy sunchokes. I loved the chef’s take on the traditional lobster roll, using hot drawn butter, homemade mayo, chives and pickles. Scales, located on Maine Wharf, is also a dreamy spot for sunset cocktails.
Eventide Oyster Co. takes the crown for the best lobster roll in town IMHO. Its signature brown butter lobster roll is served on a Chinese-style steamed bun—a pillowy texture that gives into each bite, allowing the flavor and density of lobster to come through. You also don’t want to miss its rich lobster stew, made with coconut green curry and maitake mushrooms.
The lobster served at Portland’s seaside restaurants are caught sustainably, by the hands of local lobstermen. And, right out of the Portlandia playbook, we head to the stomping grounds of our lobster friends to make sure that they’ve led healthy and happy lives.
For $30 per person, Lucky Catch Cruises takes lobster lovers like me to Casco Bay for a day in the life of a Maine lobsterman. Expect to haul up traps alongside picture-perfect lighthouses and measure each and every lobster that comes aboard.
We learned that measuring our catch (and making sure that the lobster is old enough and large enough to keep) is a major part of Maine’s sustainability plan. The same goes for protecting female lobsters who are proven breeders. This means that female lobsters with visible eggs cannot be harvested. When a lobsterman finds a female lobster with eggs, he’ll make a notch on her tail to identify her as a good breeder, thus protecting her for life from being harvested. Lobstering in Maine is by trap only (no dragging or diving is allowed), and there are strict limitations on the number of traps an individual can use.
One trap at a time, Maine’s lobster industry brings $1 billion to the state’s economy each year. As for its coveted new shell lobster, not much of it is exported. I’m afraid that means you’ll just have to visit Portland and taste the difference for yourself.
