Old Maizuru Fortress Makiyama Battery
Here is the video from around the abandoned military fortress battery.
It is at the top of Maki-yama ( in Nishi Maizuru, Kyoto.
I believe it was built around 1901 with something to do with the Russo Japanese War. However, I am not a Japanese history expert and my level of Japanese reading is very low so I may be wrong with this information.
As I have learned, there are several of these located around Maizuru. I hope I am able to hike and find more of them.

Lunch at the Maizuru Fish Market
More at
ToreTore Center is the most popular seafood market in Maizuru, maybe all of northern Kyoto. You can shop for takeout or use the open area to dine in. Maizuru bay has several fresh catches including sea bass, oysters and crab. Start with a basic plate with rice, miso soup and pickles and then go find the fresh fish that looks good to you from the vendor stalls. Its the stop if you are coming in just for lunch from the international cruise lines at pier 2.
This is the most popular seafood market in Maizuru, where visitors can enjoy fresh seafood dishes several ways. At the Fresh Seafood Market visitors can have fishes they've just bought cooked up on the spot, The Fresh Seafood Restaurant serves visitors first-class seafood cosine, and the food stalls serve casual seafood dishes. Meanwhile, there is popular roadside market, which sells fresh vegetables harvested each morning and fresh processed local foods.

Old Abandoned Japanese Military Facility
Went for a hike to see an abandoned Japanese military facility on May 25th in Nishi Maizuru. This abandoned facility site is on Mt. Takebe (建部山) in Maizuru.
The hike up the mountain was not that difficult, much easier than any other one we have done. However, we never really get a good view of the surrounding area, Nishi Maizuru and Tango Yura.
From what I could understand is that this was built in 1901. What you see behind me is the maybe the living area.
Then up a little higher and further back is where the ammo and cannons were placed. There is at least one other place like this in Maizuru.

The ruins of Fukuoka Castle (福岡城跡, Fukuokajōato) are located in the middle of the city in Maizuru Park, named after the castle's alias, Maizuru Castle. During the Edo Period (1603-1867), Fukuoka Castle used to be the largest castle on Kyushu, but it was almost completely torn down after the Meiji Restoration as an unwanted symbol of the feudal past. Nowadays only ruined walls and a few turrets remain, and the park attracts visitors with walking trails and a few lookout points.
Fukuoka Castle was built in the beginning of the 17th century by Kuroda Nagamasa, who was appointed lord of the surrounding Chikuzen feudal domain (part of today's Fukuoka Prefecture) for his support of Tokugawa Ieyasu during the battle of Sekigahara. The Kuroda clan ruled from the castle for more than two centuries until the abolition of the feudal system in 1870.
The best time to visit the castle ruins is usually between late March and early April, when Maizuru Park turns into the city's most pleasant spot for cherry blossom viewing. A number of walking paths are lined with cherry trees so that visitors can walk through a tunnel of flowers, and there are also plenty of lawned areas for holding hanami parties under the blossoms.
Among the few surviving or reconstructed castle buildings are some gates and guard towers, scattered across the castle grounds. Parts of the moat system also remain, most noticeably on Maizuru Park's northern border and in form of the large lake at the center of the neighboring Ohori Park.
How to get there
The Fukuoka Castle Ruins can be reached in a 10-15 minute walk from Ohori Koen Subway Station.

Japan Trip : Yunotsu, hot spring in World Heritage Site Ōda, Shimane, Japan

Yunotsu, of the coast of the Sea of Japan, used to be known as a port town. Until the beginning of the 17th century, it played an important role in shipping silver which was mined at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ‘Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine’. In 2007, Yunotsu was designated as a part of the “World Heritage Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine and its Cultural Landscape”. Ryokans, Japanese style inns, and shops line the streets and visitors can soak up the the tranquil atmosphere of a town with such a long history.
The nearby ports of Okidomari and Tomogaura were used to ship away the silver from the Iwami Ginzan Mines. The ports feature Hanaguri-Iwa, special rocks that were used to moor boats to. These can be seen at Okidomari by taking a five minute hike around the bay. The narrow nature trail to the rocks starts at a little bridge that crosses the small creek on the right side of the dock.
The former roads, used to transport the silver from the the mining area to the ports, are now hiking trails. The trail to Okidomari and Yunotsu is 12 kilometers long and passes nearby two castle ruins, while the trail to Tomogaura is 7 kilometers long. There is a possibility of doing a loop hike as Yunotsu and Tomogaura (near Maji Station) are connected by the JR Sanin train line.
Yunotsu is a station along the JR Sanin Line, one hour by limited express train (approx. 3000 yen) or two hour by local train (1490 yen) from Matsue. The town center is a 10-15 minute walk or short bus ride (140 yen) from Yunotsu Station. Okidomari is another 15 minute walk northwest of the town center.
If coming from Omori Town, take a bus to Nima or Oda-shi Station and transfer to the JR Sanin Line to Yunotsu. With a good connection, the journey takes about 45 minutes via Nima Station or about one hour via Oda-shi Station, but note that the train and bus service in the region is rather infrequent.
