KOREAN HANWOO BEEF - The King of all Korean Beef is from the Hanwoo cow, a cow native to Korea, and prized for its amazing meat. I had the special opportunity along with some friends to eat at Born & Bred, a butchery and restaurant that deals the best Hanwoo beef in Korea, and serves the best Korean beef in their elegant restaurant. It was a life-changing beef experience. #KoreanFood #hanwoo #Seoul
Thank you to Kevin Chan ( and Sanny ( for getting the reservation and organizing this trip.
Majang Meat Market - The biggest meat market in Seoul, and responsible for dealing most of the meat that’s consumed throughout Korea, is the Majang Meat Market. It’s a very cool market to visit when you’re in Seoul. I wasn’t interested in eating anything since I knew what was to come, but I did enjoy looking at the amazing met cabinets, and also checking out the original Born & Bred.
Hanwoo Beef Omakase at Born & Bred - Born & Bred, the newly opened restaurant is this massive, designer brand clothing looking, restaurant that serves the best quality Korean Hanwoo beef you can get in the entire world. They have a number of different floors offering different beef experiences, but the top is the basement speakeasy where the owner offers a omakase Korean food meal. Using only his selections of Hanwoo beef, he grills in front of you an amusement park of Korean beef.
The meal was phenomenal, and it was all you can eat Hanwoo beef, so there was no not leaving stuffed. What I loved is that we had many tastes of many sections of the cow, some just grilled straight, and others prepared the real Korean food way, with pickled kimchi and lettuce wraps, yet using the ultimate beef of all beef’s.
Born and Bred - 312,000 per person, 2,500,000 for entire room
Price - 312,500 KRW ($263.45) per person

SEOUL'S TOP 5 BEST FOOD MARKETS - South Korea ???????? 2018
If you're planning on visiting Seoul and you love markets, food, and the hustle and bustle of everyday life, then you need to check out this video.
I've been going to some of these markets since the 80's and 90's with my Korean relatives, so these places hold sentimental value for me. Besides being just great markets, they're also loaded with tons of food!
TONGIN MARKET (통인시장)
ADDRESS: 8, Jahamun-ro 15-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 종로구 자하문로15길 18 (통인동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Market is open weekdays 09:00 to 18:00, Saturdays 09:00 to 13:00. Closed on Sundays & holidays.
The Doshirak Cafe closes at 16:00.
Tongin Market was built in 1941 for the Japanese residents that lived around there during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Now it's a small traditional market, with a unique way to experience the market: using Yeobjeon, the traditional brass coins, to fill up your Doshirak lunch tray.
A bundle of 10 coins goes for 5,000 Won. Most dishes cost 2 coins, some small items are only 1 coin. The vendors will have the cost of items listed at their shops.
When you're ready to eat, go to the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Doshirak Cafe, located in the center of the market. They provide free utensils, water, and napkins. You can also buy a bowl of rice and/or soup, for 2 coins each.
GYEONGDONG MARKET (경동시장)
ADDRESS:147, Wangsan-ro, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 동대문구 왕산로 147 (제기동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Herbal Medicine Market 09:00-19:00
Traditional Market 04:00-19:00 (varies by store)
This market is one of the largest markets in Seoul, dating back to right after the Korean War when many of the countryside farmers would gather in the city to sell their produce.
This place is huge, and is equivalent to the size of 5 World Cup soccer stadiums.
You can buy any type of food here: vegetables, fruits, all types of meats, seafood, etc. This place is great for grocery shopping for cheap!
There's also the Herbal Medicine Market, which is the largest herbal market in all of South Korea. You can find all types of Hankyak (한약), which is traditional Korean medicine, here.
GWANGJANG MARKET (광장시장)
ADDRESS: 88, Changgyeonggung-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 종로구 창경궁로 88 (예지동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: General stores 08:30-18:00, Restaurants 08:30-23:00.
Most of the market is closed on Sundays, but lots of the street food vendors will still be open.
Gwangjang Market is a textiles and fabric market, that just so happens to house one of the largest traditional Korean street food areas in the city. You can fulfill all your traditional Korean street food fantasies here: tons of tteokbokki, bibimbap, the famous narcotic kimbap, bindaetteok, fried foods, etc.
The market is also famous for Yukhoe (육회), which is essentially Korean raw beef tartare. It's strips of fresh beef, mixed with egg yolk, sesame oil, on top a bed of sliced Asian pears. Mix it all together and enjoy!
NAMDAEMUN MARKET (남대문시장)
ADDRESS: 21, Namdaemunsijang 4-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 중구 남대문시장4길 21 (남창동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Everyday, with a short break between 5pm ~ 10pm for the overnight vendors. I recommend mid-morning or early-afternoon.
Namdaemun Market is the largest traditional Korean market still in operation in the entire country! There are over 10,000 individual vendors!
Make sure to visit the Noodle Alley and Hairtail fish Alley and you MUST TRY the yachae hotteok or ggul hotteok snacks at Gate 2 on the north side of the market.
MAJANG MEAT MARKET (마장 축산물시장)
ADDRESS: 40, Majang-ro 31-gil, Seongdong-gu, Seoul
서울특별시 성동구 마장로31길 40 (마장동)
GOOGLE MAPS:
HOURS: Weekdays 03:00-23:00, closed every first and third Sunday of the month.
Majang Meat Market is the best place to buy Hanwoo beef, as well as other types of meats. It's roughly 30% cheaper here than anywhere else!
Make sure to eat some BBQ at the BBQ alley at the north entrance (click map link to see that entrance location).

We start with tteokbokki- one of Korea’s most popular street foods-rice cakes slathered in gochujang sauce. We head to tteokbokki town where around 10 restaurants specialise in tteokbokki hotpots. Tteokbokki, instant noodles, vegetables, egg and a range of other tasty ingredients are cooked together in a gochujang sauce at the table over a gas cooker.
Our next stop is for Korean BBQ a must eat when you’re visiting Korea! Korean BBQ town is located within Majang Meat Market so the meat is super fresh. We dive into a gigantic Korean BBQ feast of different cuts of beef and all of the accompanying banchan (side dishes).
We finish at Sundae Town! Sundae is Korean blood sausage- it’s made up of pig’s blood and cellophane noodles and is cooked at the table in various styles. We eat baek sundae or “white sundae” made up of sundae, various vegetables and noodles- the specialty of Sundae Town!
Where we ate:
Tteokbokki town, 서울특별시 중구 신당동 다산로33길 10-18. Open lunch and dinner.
Restaurant in Korean BBQ town, 761-8, Majang-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. Open in the evening.
Ttsuni Sundae at Sundae town, 서울특별시 관악구 신림동 1640-31. Open 24 hours.

Majang Meat Market (마장 축산물시장) for some of the best Hanwoo meat I've ever had in South Korea!
A few friends gathered and made our way to Majang Meat Market in Seoul. Known for their Hanwoo beef butchers, one of our friends who went before went to the butcher with our money (60bucks per person ish their was 8 of us) and requested different cuts of meat than what was shown front of the store.
With our cuts in hand we made our way up to the restaurant where you pay a sitting fee and then cook the meat you just bought. The sitting fee is about 6bucks per person, includes the fire the side dishes and other small things.
Anyway this video is a result of the evening, fresh cuts of meat cooked to buttery perfection, our friend even brought along his own knife to cut the meat in the perfect way (scissors can ruin the experience of having high quality meat)

[Seoul Food Alley] Wangsimni Gopchang Street - Korean Grilled Intestines?
Seoul’s alleys are filled with eateries specializing in particular dishes. The Korea Herald takes you on a foodie trip to narrow alleys where decades-old establishments beckon diners with their secret recipes, often handed down through generations. -- Ed.
Eating the internal organs of cows and pigs is popular here -- for instance, gopchang (small intestine), daechang (large intestine) and makchang (entrails). Gopchang is often used as a blanket term referring to other types of intestines, too.
